What causes the leaves to fall? Why does the chirpy chipmunk need so many nuts? With a little detective work and some simple equipment, young readers can uncover the secret life of the woods, plunging deeper and deeper--without getting lost--one small square at a time. Full color. 48 pp. Ages 6-9. 9/97.
Technically not done with this one yet but that's because we're taking a short break from curriculum. I am really enjoying the One Small Square series - you don't actually have to have a "woods" near by because the illustrations are so complete and beautiful. There are just enough facts that it's not overwhelming but if something seems extra interesting to the child you can use other resources to continue exploring.
This was awesome! Got this at a library book sale and I’m so pleased! Super informative, great pictures, tons of information! Perfect! I’m so excited to share with my daughter! *no evolution
My 6 year old son really liked this book and there was some good information, but for me, it isn't one that I would read again, I would then look for more/different information. I checked this book out from the library to see if I would like to later purchase it for our nature study library, and after reading it I decided that I will pass. If my son wants it again, we know where to find it.
Another great book with informational, detailed pictures about the woods. Talks about all different aspects of the woods, from plants, animals, insects, and the plentiful trees. Each picture is described and named for students to differentiate. Great informational book.
