I often read of or hear about authors who knew they were meant to tell stories from the time they left the crib. Me? I didn't decide what I wanted to be when I grew up until I was thirty years old - and then sold my first book at thirty-four. Still, it was obvious that I always knew I was going places.

Like so many other authors, I was a voracious reader from day one, devouring everything from Nancy Drew to My Friend Flicka, which I remember sitting hovered over the heater vent in the kitchen floor to read while my father made his coffee.

I moved on to my mother's Phyllis Whitney, Dorothy Eden, and Mary Stewart gothics before discovering my first true romances written by Lucy Walker and set in the Australian Outback. And then, at last, when I was 18 I found 'The Flame and the Flower'. (My son almost spent his life as Brandon because of that, but I spared him and named him Casey instead!)

Why write romance? Because love stories have always been a major part of the books I've loved. Father Ralph and Meggie Cleary. (I did name my daughter Megan after reading The Thorn Birds! Do you see a trend here?) The aforementioned Brandon Birmingham and Heather Simmons. Wolf Mackenzie and Mary Potter.

Even more so, it's because I love writing romance heroes. The men who sweep both heroines and readers off their feet - not to mention their authors, too!

I've spent several years happily writing action adventure romance for Kensington Brava along with hot and sexy series romances for Harlequin Blaze. Now I'm thrilled to be a launch author for Vows.

“I didn’t think love was supposed to hurt this much. I feel like I’m bleeding with it.”

Former bull rider turned rancher, Casper Janye is one of Crow Hill’s notorious misfits known as “The Dalton Gang”. When Dave and Tess Dalton (caregivers to Casper, Dax and Boone.) died, they left their ranch to the boys in the hope of their legacy continuing on. Not only did Casper inherit part of the Dalton ranch, he is now the owner of the dilapidated house on Mulberry Street where he practically raised himself while enduring an abusive father and mother that whored her body for money. Maybe it’s his childhood demons he has yet to shake or maybe in the back of his mind it’s a place to finally call his own; regardless Casper is obsessed with renovating the run down shell of a house. Faith Mitchell is Boone’s younger sister and she has known and secretly lusted after Casper since they were teenagers. She is now the loan officer at the town bank and Casper meets with Faith in hopes of acquiring a bank loan to start repair work on his house. Faith cannot provide Casper with a bank loan due to his lack of assets but what she does eventually offer is a personal loan with two conditions. First, Casper cannot ask the history of her personal wealth and second, she wants to use the house for her parents anniversary party once the renovations are complete. It is obvious to both Casper and Faith that they share a mutual attraction, but Casper has followed the gang’s “hands off policy” with regard to their sisters. But now Faith takes a bold step into unchartered waters and accuses Casper of not having the balls to stand up to her brother, Boone. Casper in turn challenges Faith to give him a sign, and he’ll make it happen. Both admit they are sexually attracted to each other and embark on a no strings sex relationship. What neither count on is finding themselves wanting much more that what they give each other between the sheets.

Faith appears to be the white collar, straight-laced, up tight woman that is living day to day in a job she doesn’t enjoy and in a lonely single life. When she is around Casper, her properness dissolves and her desire for wild rises to the surface. In her mind, Casper is an itch to her wildness that needs to be scratched and she can’t allow herself to imagine anything else beyond a good romp in the hay. Casper is the same way and wants a sex without strings relationship with Faith because in his mind, he has nothing else to offer her but “his damn fine cock”. He appears cold, distant and detached except when he interacts with Clay (the runaway that shows up at his house who Casper takes under his wing). It is obvious Casper sees some of himself in Clay and wants to provide him with stability and care that Casper never had as a kid. He soon discovers that taking on Clay is forcing himself to face his own childhood demons. The question is, will Casper allow Faith to help him move beyond his past and hopefully to a brighter future that includes Faith.

While I felt the angst and sexy were balanced in Dax’s story in Undeniable, the angst had the definite heavy hand in Casper’s story. There was an underlying sadness that permeated the characters and I never felt like we got a true taste of happiness for either one. I believe sometimes an author can draw out the angst of the characters to a point where you no longer see them progressing anywhere beyond their self-loathing or their circumstances. Then when the light bulb dawns, it’s kind of a moot point.

As the reader you definitely understood that Casper is a cowboy. Working from dawn to dusk, he is referenced as being ripe and sweaty on more than one occasion and from what I gathered in constant need of a shower. Getting it on in his pigsty of a bedroom on top of dirty sheets or in the bathroom of a bar definitely revealed both Casper and Faith’s lack of restraint and their lack of sexy surroundings. However, Ms. Kent did provide some memorable sexy moments that included strawberries, whipped cream and christening the ranch kitchen in a new way; including the counter tops and the dinner table. Although there were numerous raw and heated encounters between the two, it still lacked the intensity and emotional intimacy I found with Dax and Arwen in the previous book.

The ending proves to be a cleansing of both of their pasts and gives hope for a realistic and promising happy ending for both Casper and Faith as a couple. While I didn’t enjoy Unbreakable as much as I had expected to, I do enjoy the author’s voice and look forward to reading Boone’s story later this year in Unforgettable.

Favorite Quote:

“And all the while she kissed him, deep kisses with her tongue and what she thought might be her heart. Tender brushes of her lips to the edge of his rushed out on a breathless moan, his sound, her sound, the sound of a connection she was not ready for.”

“She wanted him in her body, but letting him in to touch more than the physical parts of her was too much of a risk–for now. Most likely forever.”

So now I need a cold shower. I just finished reading the second installment to The Dalton Gang Series and I have to say it was hot hot hot hot hot! Casper is dreamy. Albeit in a wild sex driven way!

I loved going back to Crow Hill. The place sounds dreary as hell, everyone is struggling, yet I doubt there is a town more supportive or sex crazed as this one! We saw how Arwen and Dax hooked up and found happily ever after in the last book. Now we get introduced to Casper and Faith.

Faith is very closed off. Probably the most closed off I have ever seen a heroine in any book. She has a past, like so many do, that makes her skeptical of ever finding true love and certainly from ever taking a risk. She is very planned out and coordinated She doesn't allow too much in terms of taking a chance. Until of course a handsome cowboy comes back into her life. She is responsible for his and his partner's (one being her older brother Boone) financial future. A job she takes quite seriously.

Casper is hell on wheels. A former bull rider, he is no stranger to taking a chance and risking it all. But his past ensures that he doesn't really care about what happens to him. He has inherited a ranch that is ridiculously hard labor, a house that holds more heartbreak and anger, that is crumbling down, and no money to really fix anything. Not to mention he finds a kid in his house that needs a father figure and feels obligated to give him one. Our sweet Casper is in over his head! Then there is Faith, and she could end up being his everything.

Faith has the ability to fix the money issues. And so with her help he restores his childhood home to a glory it hasn't seen in years. But more than fix the money problems, Faith has helped him heal. Taking on the kid, Clay, has helped him heal. And towards the end of the book, we see a very settled and happier Casper.

Faith on the other hand, being as closed off as she is, takes a bit more time. In my opinion she has twisted what happened in her past up so much in her head, that she has made it so much larger than it should have been. We all make stupid choices when we are young. Her choices had a bad consequence, but hardly one she can be blamed for.

These two together made it impossible to focus on any other novel right now. They were all over each other, all the time. It was one of those books where, I felt like everytime I came back to it, they were having sex again. In all sorts of fun places and all sorts of different ways. And really that is what the Dalton boys are known for!

It's a great series. Boone's story is coming out soon!

I give it 4 lipsticks!

OW drama at 88% she finds out about it at 92%. It was really stupid - totally unnecessary drama for no reason. He thought he lost her so he finished having sex with her and went downstairs to the party and gets drunk. He overhears Luck and a co worker talking he asks for a beer then makes plans with Luck to get together later. Then he smashes his hand though his truck window and gets hurt after she finds out because Luck made her way out to meet up with him while they were talking. She takes him to the hospital and then it was like it was forgotten. all that was said was "Besides, if I hadn't gone after Luck, you wouldn't have had a reason to strike out"

Totally needed to get his ass kicked from her for even thinking about hooking up with someone else right after they got finish having sex no less. It was a 4 star book until then.

This blurb came from the author’s website.

I have had my eye on Kent’s Dalton Gang series since they I spotted them before the first book Undeniable was available for pre-order. They looked like they would push all the right buttons for me. I adore the elderly couple who saves a group of boys from a potential life of crime and then the boys after they are grown up come back to help the elderly couple or to continue their dream trope. In this particular case it was three friends so close they were like brothers who all left town after high school. They had a variety of experiences roaming the west but none of them really made it big. Then they received word that the elderly couple, Tess and Dave Dalton died and they were the owners of their ranch, Dalton Ranch. The three men decided to pool their resources and try to bring the ranch back to the level that Tess and Dave would have wanted. Along the way each member of the Dalton Gang has to face their past, a woman who makes them dream of their future and determine if they are going to seize that future or let it pass them by. Unbreakable is the second of the Dalton Gang novels and focuses on Casper and Faith…the younger sister of another member of the gang. I really enjoyed Undeniable so I was really looking forward to reading Unbreakable, unfortunately I had a few problems with the characters which negatively impacted my enjoyment and there were some dangling threads that hopefully will be resolved in book three.

Casper had been badly abused growing up. His mother left for Vegas years ago and Casper was the new owner of the land and property that he grew up on. Both of which were in extremely poor condition and full of nightmares from his childhood. For some reason, I still don’t completely understand why, instead of destroying the house and selling the land or building a new one he decided to restore it. Casper felt strongly enough his need to restore it that he tried everything he could think of to get the money needed for the restoration. This included asking Faith, the loan officer at the local bank, for a loan. When she refused he picked up a second job breaking horses for another local rancher. That was on top of his work on the Dalton Ranch. He ended up joining in a private partnership with Faith to restore his house. Casper had what appeared to be a deep-seated need to be a hero or at least someone who made a difference in someone else’s life but because of his childhood and his coping mechanisms he used words to try to avoid commitment but his actions would sometimes contradict his words. As a result he blew hot and cold towards Faith, which drove me slightly insane. It also meant that to me the things he said to her and how he treated her at time I could not understand why she kept coming back. Granted I never had a crush that lasted for decades so could have played a large role in my inability to relate.

Faith also had events in her past that she was ashamed of and tried to conceal from everyone even as she continued to punish herself for her participation in those actions. She grew up with a crush on Casper (big brother’s best friend **melt**) but he never acted on any of her hints. Since he returned to Crow Hill, Faith has been struggling with her attraction to him. Her situation was complicated by the fact that she served as the loan officer for the gang’s attempt to revive the Dalton Ranch. When Casper asked her for a loan for his house she had to refuse but as their relationship changed she ended up offering him a private business arrangement using her money. Faith also blew hot and cold because she didn’t want anyone, especially her older brother Boone, to know they were “involved” but she also never stopped Casper when he initiated sex in a relatively public area or in the Dalton Ranch house with her brother sleeping in another room. Faith also took all of the venom that Casper spewed and refused to let that end them even when he did or said things that to me were unforgiveable. The more I think about Faith’s character the more I hope her refusal to give up was because she knew Casper when and I never had a sense of young Casper. However, I do think that she should have made him grovel a few times instead of continually trying to take care of him.

Kent focused on Casper, Faith and by extension Boone but she also provided glimpses into the lives of other Crow Hill residents. It was good to see the friendship between the girlfriends continued even with one in an established relationship and Faith trying to work through her relationship with Casper. I was hoping to see more about some of the events that shook up Crow Hill in Undeniable but other than a few mentions they took a backseat in this installment. I was looking forward to their progression in addition to being very curious about the historical society and their potential tie to Casper’s house. Despite the problems I had with a few characters and the dangling threads Kent did write a mostly satisfying middle book. Both Casper and Faith started their journey towards healing, forgiving themselves and breaking out of their self-destructive mindsets, which was lovely to see. Faith also took steps to heal her relationship with her father and Boone by openly talking about her past incident and making sure they knew she didn’t blame them. Casper also took steps towards committing to more than his fellow Dalton Gang friends. I continue to look forward to book three because I not only want to see what Kent is going to do to poor Boone but I also have a few other characters that I would love to see gain their own HEAs.

I give Unbreakable a B-

I might read/listen to it again to fully understand the story. So far the 2 first books from the sequele is okay. They couples all live in denial, just hooking to get who out of the system and some distractions, sooner they fall in love but they keep it to themselves until the story is 96% then they get some drama into it, breakup for second then the story is rushed to the finish. 🤷🏽‍♀️

It's thrilling, hot scenes, but kind of boring at most coz there is really not much into it rather then sex and bickering.

Can I just say Holy Cowboy Hotness!! Alison Kent has such a way with words the erotic romance, the humor; the friendship will draw you in and keep you till the turn of the last page and you won’t want it to end. You can’t help but fall in love with the Dalton Gang and if you haven’t read the first book Undeniable, it’s a must to begin with.

This second installment of the Dalton Gang series we really get to know everything about Casper Jayne, the third of the Dalton Gang, all his secrets and his demons. A house that is haunted with the ghosts of his past – ghosts that have been buried in the house he lived in as a young boy and has now been dumped on him. Not wanting to sell it or to destroy it he goes to the one person he’s always wanted but feels he can never have. Faith Mitchell wasn’t just off limits because she was his best friend’s sister and their no-sister rule but because Casper also felt she was too good for him. Faith also holds the Dalton Ranch and their purse strings as their loan officer.

When Casper returns to the house he is surprised to find a 14 yr. old runaway living in the house. Clay Whitman has come in search of Casper, with his mother dead and no other family he looks to Casper for help. Not knowing what else to do Casper sees himself in the kid and can’t turn him away. This is a heartbreaking story of a man that is confronted with his past in the eyes of a young boy, in his present that could very well change his future.

As Casper and Faith come to an agreement to help with the renovations as equal partners she finds in him the right side of reckless she needs, they are the perfect balance for each other, both strong willed yet she sees a Casper no one else does soft hearted and gentle yet a powerful and consuming lover. With Faith, Casper is a better man, better than he ever thought possible, stronger and by no means broken like he feared by the failings of his past but made better for them. Casper knows he would not be able to open up to face the past without Faith.

Faith harbors a secret of her own one that Casper is desperately trying to get answers to and when Faith lets that past intrude on the potential for a future the present comes crashing down around them both.

In the beginning I was in total lust with Casper Jayne but by the end I feel in love with this sexy, vulnerable and Oh so human cowboy, I sighed, I cried and my heart was completely owned by Casper Jayne.

Alison Kent took me away with UNBREAKABLE because that is exactly what Casper, Faith and even Clay are unbreakable, strong and enduring in the face of so much. There is just so much to this book that it is a must read and if I could give it more than 5 stars I would!

Wow, I just loved this book. This series is proving to be pretty awesome.

Faith and Casper are amazing together. I think I like them as a couple more than I liked Arwen and Dax from the first book. The relationship feels more authentic since Faith has always sort of held a torch for Casper, despite the Dalton Gang's "no sisters" rule. At first, Casper's attentions seem superficial but as the story progresses, it becomes apparent that he feels much more for Faith than just the physical.

Both Faith and Casper have secrets from their past that they're working through: hers is a secret she's not willing to share for most of the book and his involves his rough childhood. Together, they work through those issues and in the process, prove how good together they are.

Casper puts on a front that he's a jerk, but he's actually a really great guy.

Alison Kent writes the perfect balance of sex scenes and emotional content. The writing and character development are so good that the erotic content enhances the story rather than taking it over. I really appreciate that about her writing style.

I already have the last book in the trilogy, which is Boone's story. I'll be sad to finish the series but I'm definitely looking forward to the read.

I am not having very good luck with this series. For this second book I don't really care for the male lead. Casper has so many issues, most of them stemming from a horrible childhood. What drives me nuts is how he holds on to the bad things, thinks that he is nothing and deserves nothing. Does he make some bad choices, yes, but is he changing, yes. It seems like coming home to be with "his boys" is what he needed to make these changes. I loved how he took Clay and Kevin under his wing, even when he knew he shouldn't. He took care of them, protected them, and finally gave them a safe place. I even liked how Casper abides by the sister rule, even though he had a crush on Faith since they were kids. Had something happened back then, well disaster comes to mind. Now however, things are possible if he lets himself want it.

I liked Faith, loved how she decided to take a chance on Casper. I did hate how she wanted to treat things between them like a dirty little secret. I get that she was trying to protect the guys friendship and business, but it had to ring bells with Casper. I found myself very curious about where the money came from. It seemed this big taboo, but when the secret was revealed it was anti-climatic.

I was happy with how things ended, I just hope that they live in the house.

Do you enjoy hot and sexy cowboys and maybe a little bit more when they are trying to hook up with their best friend’s little sister? Then this is the book for you. Alison Kent delivers another fun and sexy book with Unbreakable. Faith is very excited to have her brother, Boone, back in town, especially since his best friend, Casper, is with him. Faith has had a crush on Casper since she was 14 and he was 16 but now that they’re both grown up, is she finally ready to go to the next step with him? Casper had a pretty unfortunate and almost indescribable childhood but he was able to escape to Faith and Boone’s house. Faith has been buttoned pretty tight since she faced a tragedy during her college years and Casper is just enough of a temptation to loosen up a little bit. Lots of funny interaction between Boone and Casper because there’s always been the ‘no sister’s allowed’ rule with the Dalton Gang and Casper can’t help but tease Boone. I really liked how they both had to revisit, accept, and move on from their past before they could look forward to their future. Very sexy smexy times and another great look at Crow Hill and the Dalton Ranch. So excited for the last book in the series!

definitely better than the first book of this series. i only have one beef: in this and the last book, the "hero" waits until everyone is naked, sweaty, and panting to bother to mention that he doesn't have a condom. and the heroine is ok with that because she's told "i'm clean". any one of you ladies who falls for that deserves the STD she gets. these guys are supposed to be experienced guys who've been around the block a few times. they are also supposed to be guys we LIKE. really cool guys do NOT get you all hot and bothered and then tell you they've got no condom but they're "clean". and then the author blithely totally drops the subject of condoms. maybe she thinks they are not sexy. i personally think they are way sexier than stuff running down your leg! and a guy who is "prepared" is way sexier than one who gives me a stupid line about being "clean". pfffft! other than that, the story was very good. i'll get the next book.

Can Alison Kent write a bad book? I don't think so. I was intrigued by Faith from the first book and I'm glad this book did her justice. And Casper was a sweetheart. I kept thinking "Bad boy? What bad boy? He's such a nice guy!" Of course he had his issues but all in all, it was nice reading about a nice guy who ended up with a tough, funny girl.

And the sex was phenomenal. Better than the last book? I dunno. They were way different. That's what I love about AK, her stories are rarely formulaic. For example, there are times I feel like if you have read one Lora Leigh book, you've read em all. Not this time...I can't wait for the third book!

This was a really good book, not as fast paced as the first book but just as enjoyable. Casper was hot, Hot, HOT! He and Faith always had a thing for each other but The Dalton Gage had a no sisters rule . Now that the Gage was back at the ranch and Faith was all grown up could the rule be broken? All he needed was a sign from Faith. Finding Faith bent over in front of the refrigerator late one night at the ranch was all the sign he needed. Their relationship was hot and heavy from the start but will they let their past sins keep them apart?
I have to say Alison Kent can write some smokin hot sex scenes and I can't wait to read Boone's book.

2nd book in series. This is Casper and Faith's story. Casper was the poorest of the boys. He had a very awful childhood. His mother never took of him and his father left when he was young. His saving grace was the Dalton boys Boone's family, and dax. When he comes back he runs int Boones sister Faith. She works at the bank and helps the boys out financially with their ranch expences Casper has had feeling for Faith since he was a teen. But Boone and the boys had a no sisters rule. Faith and Casper finally hook up but keep it a secret. They learn a lot about each others past that they didn't know.

Great book! Next we have Faith and Casper. Love me some tortured soul Casper. He could be a real hard ass sometimes. But his treatment of Clay showed that he was capable of more. Faith- well who knew there was a Wildcat in there? She just needed the right guy to make it safe enough for her to let go of the past and be who she really was. Another emotional read and I loved it! Looking forward to Boone and Everly!!!
