Reclamation

Rate this book
Teresa Carraher is a 22-year-old struggling photographer in idyllic Whistler, BC. She’s working as a gallery manager for her mentor, an internationally-known photographer, and getting her life in order after a tumultuous youth. Her family was absorbed by a religious fanatic and Teresa barely escaped the compound. Her greatest regret was leaving her ten-year-old brother Roger behind to the religious madness.

Five years later, Roger has turned up on her doorstep. He brings three problems for his big sister. First, she must determine if Roger has been indoctrinated. The second problem is completely unexpected: Roger is transgendered. But it’s the third problem that is most dangerous: The fanatic may have sent minions to reclaim Roger—and perhaps Teresa, too.

Teresa gathers strength and assistance from a group of Whistler women, her mentor, wealthy European friends—and a very handsome lawyer—to help Roger and to save them both from religious zealots bent on RECLAMATION.

I started writing as a child, and won my first national writing award in sixth grade. I edited and wrote for my high school and college creative writing magazines, but then life got in the way and didn’t write fiction for years—I wrote for hire. Magazine articles (in music and travel), advertising copy, corporate newsletters and software manuals paid the bills. I have always been interested in the discovery of a person’s true nature and sexual identity, and began exploring different literary genres and structures to tell those important stories.

I love it “What could I do she’s my sister

I have read many of your books and they still are better every time which keeps bring me back for more. What an amazingly emotional roller coaster ride when the chase was on. I thought I was caught up with my breathing just trying to keep up. That’s exactly what good writing and a story should do.

I really enjoyed this! It covered many areas--religious mania, sexual identity, and Whistler Canada--and it turns into a thriller, too! Not sure what some other readers didn't see; I thought the characters and plot were quite real and moving. The transgendered teen was handled with sympathy and realistically, I believe, and the older sister (narrator) is an unlikely but likeable heroine. I particularly liked the various women of Whistler; I've visited and recognized them as absolutely real.

As always I enjoyed this book and the main characters who you really care for. There are some very brutal events that are quite shocking. This is the second time I have read the book and I did still like it.

Just poorly developed. The main two characters discuss some terrible events in such a blase and unrealistic manner. I read about half way through and just could not finish it.
