OK, was expecting Crowe's book as a finale (?) to the triolgy, but I guess it's going to be a quad-rology instead :)

This was slightly better than the previous two - but not much.......

OK. Page 5 and we get a typo: Crewe for Crowe.
Pgs 171 and 294 are the end of (an almost identical) sex encounter - (cut and paste?? with a few in-fills???)
Pg 176-8 almost 3 pages of a God Almightly info-dump (and where we are GIVEN the bad guy, carte blanche)
Pg 321 typo of Amelia for Anna (amongst various others)
Pg 264 where we get the (far) background - introducing pirates of all things!!

And the whole thing riddled with time/situation/continuation anomolies and (bordering on) disbelief etc.

The book read as if the author WANTS us to stay with it: hot (questionable, since it never varies) sex; background info (because none of this existed before!); solutions (because we haven't got brains to solve it ourselves); and a few unanswered questions about WHY does all this happen (OK, pirates, I get it - possibly!).

A plus (dubious) with characters from the Elite Corps books appearing (THEY were GOOD!) - not that they got anything above a mention.

And if you've read the Elite Corps series, then you'll know that LL CAN write GOOD suspense stuff!

Yes: I'm hangin' in there for Crowe's story/love interest. No, if the next (?) series/titles are as poor, then I won't carry on reading - there is so much allowance one can give to an author!

And on that note: I am done...Done...DONE!

DNF'd at 50%

I apologize in advance for my rant/review, but what happened to this author? I've loved her Elite Ops and Tempting Seals series. But with this series, each book has been getting progressively worse.

I swear it has become a "if you're read one, you've read them all". It is basically regurgitated drivel. Take a hero and heroine, change their names around, and rinse and repeat. I swear there was a scene that was literally copy and pasted from earlier in the story. I realize all authors have a "voice" that is their stamp, so to speak. But this is not the case here, in my humble opinion. Her characters all sound the same. The sex scene dialogue is repetitive and sounds the same in EVERY.SINGLE.BOOK.

What irritates me most? The ERRORS! I look past this on self-published books and with Indie authors because c'mon, I get it. But we have a publisher AND and editor here...the amount of errors and TYPES of errors are just inexcusable. The names are wrong on some pages, dates vary, details vary...that's not even touching on basic grammatical no-no's.

I hate to say this, but I am now officially done with her books. Until the caliber of writing gets much better, I will MAYBE check out Leigh's future books from the library but I am certainly not wasting my money pre-ordering anymore.

Eh... Just, ... Eh. Perhaps my most difficult review to date. I like the series; the idea behind the cousins and the plot to take what was theirs, but this book... goodness, it just took an otherwise good story and well, killed it! Because this is the third in a series based on the same conflict, I am not going to provide a synopsis but rather:

Ana: Wow... You were will the man for about a week and are walking out on him because he didn't say "I love you"??? I guess its not enough that he protects you, risked his life for you, cuddled you, and had a nice relationship.

PIRATES?????: Are you flippin' kidding me? The conflict was fine just saying that the family was fucked up! You didn't need to mention that centuries ago it was all about pirates and their booty hidden in the property... It just got corny after that.

And the whole, your cousin is really your brother thing...
HAHAHA That would make a good episode.

There is an upcoming fourth book that is supposed to feature Crowe, and frankly, he's the one that I really want to read about. I am hoping that it is far better than Secret Sins!

This is the third book in Lora Leigh's Sin series and a huge improvement from book two. This book represents the writing style any Lora Leigh fan has grown to love and the reason we are loyal and dedicated followers.

Lots of answers will be answered in this book that features Sheriff Archer Tobias and Anna Corbin. Lots and lots of steamy scenes to devour along with a few surprise visits from previous hero's in some of her other juicy books.

If our a Lora Leigh fan you won't want to miss this book. I definitely recommend it.

Third in the Callahans romantic suspense series revolving around the hard-done-by Callahan cousins. The couple focus is on Anna Corbin, John Corbin's granddaughter, and Sheriff Archer Tobias.

I recommend avoiding this entire series. If you absolutely must read it, borrow it from the library. Borrow it from a friend stupid enough to actually buy this junk. Just don't encourage Leigh to continue writing this. At least, puh-lease, Leigh, do a better job.

My Take
Two points for Leigh's Secret Sins. One, we finally discover the horrible secret that has caused the Barons to destroy the Callahan boys. Two, this third installment is consistent with the first two---it's bloody awful.

This has got to be the lamest, stupidest explanation for why these three boys have been reviled their entire lives. Why their parents were destroyed. Why the grandparents, the Barons, accepted these conditions.

I have the hardest time believing that Lora Leigh could possibly write such crap. Sure the erotic scenes were well done, but Leigh's premise for all the horrible actions in this are stupid. The only other kudo I can give is how well Leigh stretched out the suspense of the why. I admit, I kept hoping that there was some truly incredible reason for it. For destroying all these lives. And not just their own families, but the women who were brutally murdered as well. And. No. There isn't.

Then there's the interaction between Anna Corbin and Archer Tobias. As I mentioned above, at least the love scenes were well done. If you could avoid the idiotic, immature, inane interaction outside the bedroom, it wouldn't be so bad. But no, we have to read all the jumping to conclusions that Anna does. She gets pissy because Archer answers a call when Caine finds a dead body. Well, duhh, what does she expect the sheriff to do? She knows he doesn't believe in love, and, awwwww, she gets upset when...oh, shock, he says he doesn't believe in love. They can go from one extreme to the next in one conversation and seriously appear to believe what they're saying. I wonder if Leigh had a silent partner in the writing of this story and neither knew what the other was doing.

Okay, Anna's come home from college. Early. She's told the family that they can either employ her on the ranch or she'll take the job the Callahans have already offered her. So, Grandpop tells her she'll leave the county or starve. They won't let anyone employ her. Um, hullo, Grandpop has no pull with the Callhan boys who despise him and have succeeded at their lives in spite of the harassment Grandpop has dealt them. So just how is it that Anna won't be getting a job in the county if the Callahans are already offering her one?

I've given up trying to figure out what happened to and how the dead Callahans figure in to all this. It's too confusing.

Then there's the bit where Leigh writes that Sorenson is sympathetic and has tried to help the Callahans, but he risked alienating his daughter when he found out she was friends with Cami, who was herself friendly with the Callahans AND insisted she stop associating with Cami. Because of her friendship with the Callahans. WTF.

With all the Barons' power and supposed smarts, they could never figure out a way to keep family safe and expose the bad guy? Oh. Brother. Then there's the reason they've been blackmailed. Just shoot me now. How. Incredibly. Stupid.

Well, now you know I'm irritated. Just call the damn things buttons. Discs?? Gawd. Then there's the trap Archer falls into. Duhhhhh.

When Anna reconnects with Skye, I'm, well, I'm confused. Again. At first Anna is so excited that Skye has moved back to Sweetrock. Then she's angry because Skye is hanging with the Callahans. Yup, the same ones Anna is working for and has been campaigning most of her childhood to be able to be friendly with.

There's all this manufactured tension that is just so annoying. I have to confess I did a lot of skimming so I could get this story over with.

Now it comes out that the four families---Callahan, Rafferty, Corbin, and Roberts---laid claim to the land nine generations ago. This works out to about 180 years ago, or somewhere around 1820. At the same time a couple of pirates buried their treasure. In Colorado. Land-locked Colorado. Hundreds of miles from water. Of course, in earlier stories, I had gotten the impression that the grandfathers were the ones who settled in Corbin County. Silly me.

The Resnovas put their search talents to use and discover a lot. If any of y'all can figure out what they've discovered, I'll be real impressed. I've gone over it several times and cannot figure out how it all works out. Leigh is back and forth between two hundred years ago, Vietnam, the 1930s and back again...and I just don't wanna put that kinda effort into this.

Crowe's grandmother has the nerve to take him to task for being, goodness, rude. It's not as if his grandparents refused to have anything at all to do with him when his parents died when he was TEN YEARS OLD. It's not as if they didn't encourage every single person in town to revile the child. W.T.F. I'm sorry, but these people should be horsewhipped up and down frickin' Main Street.

NOOOOO. No, please, not that...noooo...Leigh is threatening #4!!!!

The Story
If you've read the other two, you know what happens here. Boy rescues girl. Doesn't want to love her. Emotionally. Does want to love her physically. Overriding need to protect her. Bad guys come after her. She gets pissy because everyone around her is making decisions about her life.

Ta-dah, happy ending.

The Characters
Anna Corbin has been shipped out of the county ever since she turned nine. Rarely allowed more than a week or so at a time at the ranch over the years. Despite her begging and pleading to come home.

John Corbin is one of the Barons who control Corbin County; Genoa is his wife and Anna's grandmother. Robert Corbin is his son and Anna's father; Lisa is her mother. Who are these people? I would never treat my child the way they do. Marshal Roberts is Rafer's paternal grandfather and Saul Rafferty is Logan's grandfather. I think JR and Eileen Callahan were the parents of the three Callahan fathers who were murdered when their car went off the road.

The original settlers were Patrick O'Hara Callahan, Douglas McQuire Roberts, Dennis O'Halloran Rafferty, and Augustus O'Ryan Corbin. Raider, a.k.a., Clavern Mulrooney, and his son Blood are the pirates. Edward Bosworth III was a partner.

Sheriff Archer Tobias sort of inherited the sheriff's job when his dad got Alzheimer's and the wound he got in the military sidelined him from active service. Oscar is his Maine Coon cat who doesn't take well to intruders. Male or female. Deputy John Caine is one of Archer's suspects. Callum Nash is the county's new crime scene investigator. Madge is the sheriff's secretary. And was I ever surprised to learn, later in the story, that she's actually a reasonably young woman. Here I've had the impression she's a much older person.

Wayne Sorenson is the county attorney and another suspect. His daughter, Amelia, is Anna's best friend and has been working hard to track down information her father wants. Governor Carson Ferguson is getting mighty impatient that the murderer of his daughter has never been found.

Dr. Krista Mayan takes a personal interest in Anna's health. Elizabeth Haley is a former Callahan lover.

Amory Wyatt has no record older than five years. He's also a friend of the Corbin family. He hunts with Robert.

The Reviled Callahans
Rafer is engaged to Cami Flannigan. Crowe is still single. Logan is engaged to the pregnant Skye, a former FBI agent. Ryan Calvert is a hidden Callahan; his mother, Eileen, sold him to raise money to save the ranch. Oh, nice... Jack and Jeanne Thompson.

That bitch Kimberly Corbin had the nerve to marry David Callahan.

Ivan Resnova, his family, and the Callahans have opened up Brute Force, a private security company. Mikhail Resnova has just hired Anna as his personal assistant. Amara is Ivan's daughter. Sophia is his sister and Gregor is their uncle. Thaddock, Stryker, and Brolen will be Anna's new bodyguards along with Rory Malone, Jordan Malone's kin (you'll remember Jordan from Leigh's Elite Ops series).

The Slasher has been operating in Corbin County for near on forty years. Brutally murdering any woman with a connection to a Callahan.

The Cover
The cover is a range of reds to oranges with a close-up of Anna's face turned toward the reader while Archer---a very young looking Archer— is in profile, glaring to the side.

The title is accurate enough. The Barons have their Secret Sins that have held them immobile.

I knew when I started reading the Callahan Brothers series that it would be exciting and unbelievably sexy. It’s Lora Leigh – I wouldn’t expect anything else. What I didn’t count on was how the intrigue and mystery would just suck me in and not let go.

Archer was brought into the Corbin family when Anna was just a little girl. She has always looked up to him and has always loved him. She has saved herself just for Archer – no other man can compare to him. Archer has always been “aware” of Anna but kept his distance. He is just looking for a good time because he can’t allow himself to love again. But circumstances bring the two of them together and their lives will never be the same.

The Slasher has targeted Anna. But why? Archer needs to figure out this riddle; he needs to find the truth as to why Anna was moved from school to school and kept out of Corbin county. He needs to learn the secrets that The Barons have been hiding all these years. Anna is in danger and he will do whatever it takes to keep her safe even if he loses his heart to her.

Anna is finally a strong, independent woman who returns to Corbin County and refuses to leave. She wants to know her cousins Crowe, Logan and Rafer and she wants a life with Archer in it. She’s a woman now – he can’t ignore her any longer. She’ll seduce him one way or another and she’ll have that kiss that he promised her when she turned 18 and, hopefully, so much more. But, Grand pop will not allow her to stay. When she defies him and takes a job with Brute Force, a company partially owned by the Callahan Brothers, he disowns her. She’s on her own – no where to go – with nothing but the clothes on her back. Until Archer finds her and brings her into his home and gives her exactly what she has been waiting for.

With the Slasher still on the loose, Archer calls in all his favors to protect Anna even though she protests. He only strikes out against the Callahan Brothers former lovers – why his Anna? Things are not making sense and, as secrets are revealed and layers are pulled back, the truth will surprise everyone and devastate Anna and destroy Crowe. The Slasher is revealed, the truth about Anna and the Callahan Brothers becomes known and now Archer needs to bring an end to all the death in Corbin County and secure his life with Anna.

Again, Lora Leigh leaves you breathless as you learn who and why the Callahan Brothers have been targeted all these years. The love between Anna and Archer is unbelievable. Yes, you want to slap Archer every now and then to get him to open his eyes and his heart. But, when he does, you believe it, you feel the love he has always had for Anna and your heart breaks as she is kidnapped. You understand why he fought it and you cheer when he finally admits to it. I loved that she brought in characters from her other series tying them all together. Ah, the Elite Ops – how I miss them! I was enthralled and captured from the beginning of Secret Sins. I was drawn in and didn’t emerge until the bitter end. Silent Sins was a definite page-turner … you didn’t know what was going to happen next and was absolutely surprised with who the Slasher is. I cannot wait to read Crowe’s story and to see how she brings the suffering and heart-ache to an end.

This could have had such a higher rating if, again, it wasn't for the damn errors in the book. One character's name changes from Gregori to Anatoli, then back to Gregori; at one point, Cami has a conversation with herself, because of naming errors; there is a completely copied scene (and I mean it's identical) that shows up twice in the book; and my personal favourite - Anna is bitching that Archer has never said he loved her when he said it about ten pages earlier!!!!! Come on, book editors... Lift your game!!!! You've ruined what could have been three very good reads for me and many other people (I mean, the three books in this series about the Callahans, which have ALL suffered from crappy editing). This story could have been beautiful... Archer was a strong dominant hero and Anna was a lovely strong willed woman - their romance came out beautiful in the end, but the editing ruined it completely for me.

Lora Leigh books are my favorite guilty pleasure, I look forward to every release. I can't wait for the next book in the series. That said, they would be even better with a really good editor. This had more than the normal (for Lora Leigh) timeline and story inconsistencies, wrong names used, wrong forms of words used, so the sentence doesn't quite make sense, etc. Then there was the love scene from pages 292-294 that was copied & pasted, almost word for word from pages 169-171. What makes that worse, was if I had any actual criticism of her writing, it's that she could stand to have a little less sex, and a little more character development & plot line. I keep hoping with every new Lora Leigh book, that this problem will be fixed, but so far, no luck. Really makes you appreciate the great editors other writers have. I can't imagine reading a book by any other bestselling author I know of with these kind of mistakes, much less in book after book. Especially after the issue with the missing pages/scenes in Navarro's Promise.

The book blurb pretty much covers everything that I would like to say about the plot so I’m going right to my review…

I know I picked an erotic read but I felt that the erotic encounters overshadowed what was a fantastic story. I ended up skimming over the sexual scenes to read the meat of the plot. I didn’t think I’d ever say this but there were too many repetitively described explicit interaction. Yes, I’m going to say it…it got boring!

Now that I got that out of my system onto the story...I’ve read every book in this series and tons were finally exposed. Great revelations we have been anticipating from the previous books finally are revealed, making Secret Sins essential to understanding this series.

I did find that I didn’t like the manipulations and secrets that where kept. Now that I have more understanding, I thought that many of the choices were asinine...Yup, wanted to smack them around and wake them up from whatever stupid-drugs they were taking. Why not let someone understand why they are a target?

In the end, I am looking forward seeing what direction this story will take now. I am hoping Crowe is next and can’t wait to see how Anna will fit into the Callahan dynamic. 3 ½ Stars.

I tried. I really, really tried. Her last two books in this series were meandering, horribly edited and just plain made no sense at times. Didn't even finish them, they were wallbangers. But I have a weakness for Lora Leigh. She was the first. So I thought I'd give her one more shot.

OMFG. Really. The plot again is meandering and not making sense at points. The characters do things that seem completely at odds with how they were originally presented. But the final straw? At the bottom of page 210 is the EXACT SAME DIALOGUE that was at the bottom of page 137. I know there's only so many ways you can say "Do me, baby" "Oh, I'm gonna do you, baby" but to repeat the exact same dialogue twice in the same book, spoken by the same characters? She's either phoning them in or her editors get too worked up reading her stuff to actually edit. What really made me laugh, though, was the line at the bottom of page 210, after the duplicate dialogue: "It was almost like deja vu..."

No, it was almost like a farewell to a once great author. No, it was farewell.

*Beware of possible spoilers!*

Book three of the Callahan’s series is FINALLY here! I can’t tell you how much I’ve been dying to get back into this series! Leigh has weaved a riveting storyline about the Callahan cousins that were shunned by the whole town for greed. Somebody wanted their land so badly that they decided to kill for it again and again becoming a serial killer known as the slasher; killing every female the three men got involved with to ensure that no Callahan heir would ever be born to claim their inheritance.

In this installment, we take a break from the three cousins and focus in on Sheriff Archer Tobias, who is desperately trying to discover who is killing these innocent women. He knows the Callahans are innocent and he can’t bear to find another dead woman that he couldn’t save.

Anna Corbin has been forced out of town by her family again and again since the tender age of ten. All she ever wanted was to feel loved, but her family constantly pushes her away. Now she’s back in town and refuses to leave. Unfortunately her stand against her family may cost her as she is kicked out of her home with nothing, but a few items she snuck back in the house to retrieve.

When Archer hears the news of what has transpired between Anna and her family he is outraged. He has always had a soft spot for the beautiful Anna and sees no other option, but to have her stay with him. But when it’s clear the killer has her in his sights, will Archer’s protection be enough to save her?

Like I previously stated I couldn’t wait to delve into this book! But I have to admit that I was a bit disappointed with Archer’s character as a whole. We’ve seen glimpses of him in the previous two books of the series and I was starting to like him. The Callahans are the town bad boys that are pretty rough around the edges and a bit hard in general as a result of the life they have been forced to live. But Archer seemed a bit gentler up to this point in the series and I was expecting him to be a protective teddy bear in this novel, but that just wasn’t the case. I felt he was rougher than the cousins and by far the horniest! I hated the way he treated Anna in this book, like a $1 hooker he picked up off the street corner. Which OK, I guess technically he did pick her up off the street … but still … Everything was about sex with him and he’s a definite commitment-phobic. Which all of that I could get past, but there was just no tenderness from him between his dirty thoughts of what he wants to do with her to him pulling out during sex to spew all over her….a little reminiscent of a porno to me and definitely not how you treat someone you care about. Him telling her that she was beautiful just wasn’t enough to negate his actions, as far as I’m concerned.

I really didn’t like Anna either. She came off as week and just couldn’t fight her arousal with Archer no matter how angry she was. Any confrontation was fixed with Archer pushing her to have sex with him. The whole thing reminded me of the first book of Leigh’s Breeds series, Tempting the Beast, where the lead characters were in heat.

And, speaking of the sex scenes I found them to be pretty repetitive. They were always doing the same things, worded the same way, and even the things they said were the same scene to scene. I swear if I read, “Oh, God, it’s so good” one more time I’m going to scream!

Reading this review up to this point, you may think that I didn’t like the book, but that isn’t the case at all. I felt the story was compelling. But in my opinion, it felt like a short novella that was padded with tons of sex scenes to make the book full novel length. The sex scenes kind of droned on after awhile, but when you take them out of the mix what’s left is one awesome novella!

The big mystery in this book was to find out why the killer was targeting Anna when she has never been intimate with a Callahan. I absolutely loved this storyline and had stopped reading for a few moments to absorb all the information Leigh had given us. I figured out Anna’s connection to Crowe moments before it was revealed in the book. It wasn’t something really obvious, but with enough thinking you can figure it out, which is something I love in a good book. It definitely makes you think!

Despite this book’s flaws I did really enjoy it and can’t wait for the next installment, I can only assume it will be Crowe’s book (finally!) or at least I hope so! I’m more than ready to see him and Amelia find their way back to one another!

All right. This series is totally a disappointment. I have no idea who edited this book or series, but whoever it is, should be fired from their job for incompetency. This was the single most unprofessionally edited book I have ever bought.

This book had a great base, but it was riddled with so many errors in the timeline, it made it extremely challenging to force myself to read through its entirety. The sex scenes were darn close to copy and pasted. Even more frustrating, was a series of chapters around page 300. For multiple consecutive chapters, multiple characters with names all beginning with the letter "A" were repeatedly listed as being in a scene when they were not there. Multiple times, in multiple chapters.

How the freaking A does does someone accelerate four years of college into three, but still take six years from the day they left for college? When a character starts college directly from graduating high school at 18, three years later would not make them 24 going on 25. Anna's age was just one of the elements that were forced by the inaccurate timeline.

Now, the entire story is wrapped up in a bow complete with a standing invitation to the Jerry Springer Show. Been forced away from home since you were nine years old? Always felt like you weren't worthy to be around your friends and family? Family trying to control what you do after college? In love with a hometown boy a few years older than you? Have cousins being framed for murder? Have a serial killer hunting down women connected to your cousins? Now, you decide to sleep with your cousins' best friend, making you a target for previously mentioned serial killer? Let's not forget that you've been sleeping with you man for one week, so you get pissy because he hasn't told you he loves you? (But he actually did.) Then, when you get shot, you can't fathom why he isn't nailing you like he was before? Are you fucking stupid? You were just shot! Then, you discover from some anal retentive ancestry guru that the serial killer gunning for your family is descended from pirates! In freaking Colorado?!?! WTF?

I hope for Ms. Leigh's sake that Ultimate Sin is edited properly because this series had so much potential with all the overlap from the Elite Ops series. As it stands now, the three books from the Callahan series have been nothing but a disappointment. Sure, the men are sexy. The sex is steamy. But even the sex scenes are redundant.

I thought The Callahans series is a trilogy but obviously I was wrong because this is NOT Crowe Callahan's story.

The Good:

1. The whole Slasher/inheritance/blackmailed plot finally got interesting.

 photo thumbsup_zps75ad757a.gif

2. If you're a fan of LL's Elite Ops series, you'll be happy to know that one VERY famous character made a brief cameo, and two others got honorable mention.

 photo hello_zps79e7208a.gif

3. The love scenes are pretty hot.

 photo yes_zps101fccfe.gif

The bad:

1. Though it shouldn't become a surprise, the heroine is just plain exhausting.

 photo toostupid_zps4619f55f.gif

What I look forward to:

1. Crowe Callahan and Amelia Sorenson. I have a feeling that their story will take place at the same time as this one. If their chemistry in this book is of any indication, their story is going to be a sizzling one.

As much as I love Lora Leigh I'm a little aggravated with this one. First off, at 400 pages it was excessively long. Which wouldn’t normally be a problem except that there was so much repetitiveness that at least 50 to 75 pages could have been taken out from that alone. The first time I came across a scene that starting sound very familiar I chalked it up to tiredness because it was two o’clock in the morning. Then the next night when I got back to reading and got to another part that sounded very familiar, I thought maybe I put the bookmark in the wrong place last night and I was rereading that section again. So I skimmed back and realize nope, it’s actually being repeated, almost word for word. Three times the same scene was replayed!! For someone who has written over 80 novels I do understand some things are going to sound similar. And as someone who has read at least 70 of those novels, I can say that Lora doesn’t usually become that repetitive. I think her editor may have dropped the ball on this one.

Still, even with that small issue, the story itself was the best one of the entire series so far. I was a bit worried because she hadn’t gone to Crowe’s story and I thought great, this is going to be a fill-in. Nope, it’s the best yet. A lot of unanswered questions came out from the first 2 stories. I love the back-story that was incorporated that lead to all this. And as Lora had done with “Nauti Girls” some of the characters from the Elite Ops series were brought into “Secret Sins” as well. I absolutely love that. I prefer reading series to individual stories because I love learning about each character, so when old characters are brought back to new stories, it’s great. For this one, Rory Malone came to help out and Jordan, Micah and Noah had a small mention. I’m really hoping that Lora will continue to bring in past characters in future books. It really works.

And finally, there was a good amount of action in this one. I do love the suspense and action that is in Lora’s work but after “Nauti Girls” I thought that one had been lacking in that area. I think she pretty much made that up here though I would like to see a bit more of it, like she had done for the Elite Ops and other series. I would definitely recommend this for any Lora Leigh fan.

Just finished Secret Sins. The 3rd installment of the Callahan Series. I was soo hoping that this would be Crowe's book. But it was Archer and Anna's. I didn't think I was going to like it. I mean Archer has been in all the books but only on the side since he was a Sheriff and Anna we only got the smallest glimpse's of her before. And their was never a hint at anything romantic. But all I can say is WOW. Mrs Leigh wove these two characters into the story superbly. Sweet, innocent, loving, gentle, with a resolve to match Anna. In this book we see a side of Archer that was never shown in the other two books.

This book give us some of the answers that have been plaguing us since book one. Sooo many answers and revelations. As I read this book I would stop and start thinking who could the Slasher be? Who is his partner? And who a bit I think I figured it out but still wasn't quite sure until it was revealed. And what a revelation!!! Their was another question that was flittering threw my mind that I was almost sure of, was hoping I was right about. And was I right or wrong? I know but you will just have to read the book to find out.

I truly think this is the best of the three. It was 395 pages of suspense's who is it? A man who wouldn't know he is in love until it smacks him in the face, great suspense, great sex scenes and even better revelations that all who read this series has been wondering about.

I truly can't wait til the next book with will be Crowe's story. I will be anxiously awaiting this one.

Book three in THE CALLAHAN SERIES, SECRET SINS, will hold you in its grip with its well thought out plot, explicitly hot love scenes that scorch the pages and a murder mystery that keeps you guessing. Fans of Lora Leigh are sure to be enamored.

Anna Corbin spent her childhood being shuffled around to different boarding schools. She has never been able to understand why her grandfather and her parents preferred to keep her away from home. Now that she is grown, they are trying to send her to France to work with a man who made an inappropriate gesture toward her. Fed up, Anna refuses to leave home again.

When her grandfather puts her out of his home, Sheriff Archer Tobias offers Anna a place to stay. Anna has had a crush on Archer every since she was a young girl. Archer took notice of Anna, but always kept his distance because of the age difference between them. Now that Anna is an adult, she intends to hold Archer to that kiss he promised her years ago.

This book started of really good, then towards the middle ,the book dipped for me ,then picked up towards the end.I really wanted to rate this a four star read, but, the heroine really, really got on my second to last nerve.Come on all ready, your family sent you away to school at age nine and you never felt the love, they did not allow you to come home and be with your family.Over and over and over, this was her mantra.
So now we know who the killer/rapist is,but he escaped to the next book comming up,hopefully that will be Crowe's and Amelia's story.
I did enjoy the guest appearances of Rory Malone and Jordan Malone from a prior series.
The hero in this book Archer was the least uptight of all of LL heros so far, caught some glimpses of humor in his character,I have to admit that I loved Archer.
The smexx scenes were top notch,no one writes them as she does.
So all in all,good read,3.5***.

First, I liked the story thread in this book and how it finally answered questions related to the series, but on the other hand whoever is editing these books is doing a poor job. Reading through and running into several love scenes that were the same and finding inconsistancy in the movement of plot (Archer saying I love you in one spot and then Anna contemplating why he hasn't told her he loves her yet, in subsequent chapters)really pissed me off. If you're a writing, you know how hard it is not to repeat yourself or not remember what you wrote in previous places because you're staring at the text and editing it for so long it all looks the same. But to have an end product with such deplorable editing is very upsetting. If I were Lora Leigh, I would definitely have a talking to with the editor.

I forgive most anything in erotic romance, and over the years have overlooked the ridiculous plotlines and execrable editing/proofreading in Lora Leigh's books because as bad as they are, they are fun. They are literary Cheetos. But the worm has turned in the last 5 years or so, and now Leigh's books are literary off-brand Cheetos -- bad for you and just plain bad. In Secret Sins there is a scene that is in the book twice. Verbatim. I am not shitting you. Cut and pasted. I loved Leigh's early books, the Navy Seals series is my crappy erotic romance gold standard. So it is with sadness that I report the last few books I have dipped into have been awful. I could not even finish this one. I think Lora and I are officially broken up.

All I can say is OMG. Lora Leigh has out done herself again. I have enjoyed reading her for years. This is the third book of her series, The Callahans.

In this book, we find who the Slasher is and some other major secrets as well. Anna has been begging to stay home ever since she was 9 but her family has always denied her. Archer is the Sheriff trying to discover the Slasher's identity and the reason why there has been so much in his community. Anna has loved Archer for years. Archer has stayed away from Anna because she wasn't ready for his type of relationship. Anna is kicked out of her house and Archer invites her to stay at his. Anna and Archer discover their passion and love but will it be too late?

Highly recommend this author and this series.

I have to admit this was better then Logan's book mainly because there was some progression in the plot. However I feel like I'm reading two different books in one.

In every genre I read, I expect some sort of logic that correspond with that genre. As a romantic suspense, I'm going to assume it's more suspense then romance as the driving plot is the need to catch the bad guy, so about at minimum 70 percent suspense and 30 percent romance. You can play with that percentage depending on your preference but the suspense should always be more.

As much as I love the romance I felt the sex was too much, especially in terms of detail. Each sexual encounter took up a couple of chapters and I felt it was too much for this book. If it was a straight up romance or erotica, I wouldn't mind but I wanted to know more about what they were doing to catch the bad guy. I would have much rather some of the sex chapters were cut and devoted to the suspense.

In terms of the pacing, there was more of a rhythm to this book so it was easier to immerse myself into the story. The author did a good job of droppping hints and tidbits so you know where things are headed. I still wish there was more clues cause a lot of what they have against the bad guy is very circumstantial.

I really wish there weren't so many annoying female heroines. I feel bad for her a lot but geez she's pretty annoying. I mean she's making out with a sherif and when he has to leave because of a found body she decides it's because he doesn't want her. Then they are making out another time and he has to answer a call because they found the car of the murder victim and she again takes it personally. She's been shot and she doesn't have sex with her it must be because he doesn't want her and she doesn't bother to ask him why not... Then when a week later they hash it out she's mad that he is "controlling her" by making the decision not to have sex with her with out discussing it with her. True I'm not sure why he didn't tell her I want you but I think we need to wait a bit for you to heal up but controlling her is a bit dramatic.

That's nothing to say about the rather weak explanation for the extremeness of the estrangement of the families.

While the sex scenes are hot they are also pretty repetitive and to some cases way too long. These things can drag out. Just do it already!

Do I like this story line? Yes

This book was way too out there though.
Anna is treated terribly. Her family sends her to a different school every year. They hardly have anything to do with her. When she doesn’t go to France (to work for a guy who sexually abuses her), they kick her out.

She saves herself for Archer. She’s been in love with him since she was like 16. She’s been in college for 6 years. She’s graduated. When kicked out, he comes and gets her, moves her into his house. Yet after she gets shot, he won’t have sex with her. She gets all upset and is planning to “run away”.

This is not at all like the woman this book has lead us to believe. Either she’s this or she’s that. They want it both ways. I hate books that do that. I gave it one star. She’s meek and sweet not vindictive. They write her both ways. She’s not.

The agony (mystery) continues... there are a few twists (which could be seen from a mile away), yet which weren’t explained well.... There are a few info dumps, which are supposed to clarify things but don’t really!! There is a mention of pirates, which was supposed to explain the money that was left to the cousins but the grandfathers are disputing (or something like that?!?) - at which point i started skimming pages.... Cannot be bothered anymore with a convoluted plot which doesn’t hold water and poor editing and typos all over and name mixups, etc... That’s ridiculous! This is not a self published novice author - this is supposed to be a “seasoned” novelist here !!! With an actual editor!!

Well, hello, Sheriff! Archer Tobias took over for his dad and has also inherited the mystery at the heart of the Callahans series. He has also captured the attention of Anna Corbin. Yes, one of those Corbins so you know this is not going to go smoothly. I can't give too much away because the spoilers with this one will have you pulling out your hair. The blast from the past and the other shoe dropping will have you saying "Yeah, ok, I get that" because it totally makes sense. I love how LL starts to bring it all together.
