Scapegoat: The Hounded

Rate this book
Alexander (Xander) Lloyd and his friend Haroon Qubadi fight for Haroon's father who is unjustly accused of supporting terrorism. The Hounded creates a timely exploration of prejudice, media, politics and religion. Richen weaves a tale of friendship and family that proves love and justice can prevail. A terrific choice for a book club, family and classroom.
Scapegoat: The Hounded stands alone and is also a sequel to Scapegoat: The Price of Freedom. The book contains questions for book groups and classroom discussions.

I absolutely enjoyed this book which is pretty well-written and whose gripping narrative weaves a clever story filled with action and suspense. Rae Richen, the author, proves to be a great storyteller. The way she develops the characters is amazing, as well as the personality she assigns to each one of them. On the other hand, the details she provides in each chapter as regards the setting or the action itself, makes the reader can't detach from the story!
The many twists and turns kept me guessing and in suspense eagerly wanting to know what would happen next. Throughout the story, we can discover diverse themes such as friendship, loss, terrorism and attacks. The tension increases page after page, which makes this title extremely interesting.

In Uncharted Territory, author Rae Richen gives us Jack, a teen-age boy struggling with an awful medical condition. Jack's story takes place among a family in delicate crisis; a father who denies his son's frailty and Jack who tries to prove himself with consequences that turn dire.

Though the audience for Uncharted Territory is young adult, the story plays out in a satisfying way even for adults. Richen keeps us reading. She gives us a story we can care about and told by wonderfully flawed, conflicted and moving characters. Uncharted Territory is a certainly a page-turning read.
