Venna Greer is a witch suffering from a case of magic-induced amnesia, making her think she's a normal girl. She lives in the sleepy town of Capeside, Virginia, with her foster parents and girl-crazy younger brother. Venna is secretly in love with her best friend, Henry Langley, and has a decision to tell him her feelings or not? But what she doesn't know is that Henry has a secret of his own.
Henry Langley is a warlock, and his parents are members of the Council that rule the magical world. He's having a difficult time deciding which to confess to Venna his love, the fact that he knows who she is, or that they are on the brink of a war with the potential to expose them to humans.
Time is running out. Venna is thrust into a new world. A world she once belonged to, and war that has more to do with her than anyone ever imagined.
I'm J.C. Isabella, and I love to write. I've been writing for about ten years now. Mostly it was just for fun, for me. But my friends liked my work, so I decided to self publish. I hope you enjoy the rest of my site, and the books I have written.
The reason I chose to write romance, is because I love a happy ending. In YA there are so many lessons to be learned, so many firsts to be had. Why not write about first kisses, first crushes, or trying to explain to your father you were bitten by your boyfriend, who happens to be a werewolf?
One thing I will always promise in my books is a happy ending. I've always hated getting to the end of a really great novel, and feeling let down because it didn't end the way I thought it should. So about ten years ago, I decided to write a book. I remember it was about these kids who hijack a boat to find buried treasure in Mexico....
Needless to say, my writing has come a long way since my teen years, and I know I have room to improve, but I feel guilty having these books sitting in my computer, with no one to read them. So I'm putting them out for the world to see!
I try not to take myself too seriously. I'm not an editor, nor am I a total wiz when it comes to grammar or language. I try my darndest though, and I hope to give people an enjoyable read that is nice a break from reality.
I put a lot of work into what I do, and I appreciate people reading my work. It makes me feel all warm and fuzzy inside.
(I was given this book for free by the author on a read-to-review basis)
Henry is a warlock, and having just reached his 18th birthday he has now fully come into his magical powers. This is even more important to Henry than other warlocks, as Henry's father is warlock king, and Henry is prince, and thus a key member of The Council - a government structure consisting of Warlock, werewolf, and vampire royal families.
Venna has been Henry's best friend since childhood. Growing up they have always been together, but Venna has no idea that she is a witch, and Henry has had to keep his magical side hidden from her for as long as he has known her at the request of his mother.
Now just days away from her own 18th birthday, and due to gain her full powers, Venna is beginning to have dreams that are so real she wakes up bleeding from injuries sustained whilst in the dream. scared and confused, she looks to Henry for help working out what is going on with her, but Henry's mother has a secret to tell him. She has placed a memory charm on Venna so that she remembers nothing of her mothers death which she was witness to nine years ago. Now the memory charm is wearing off, and Venna will find herself reliving those memories that were repressed.
Now Henry and Venna are finally admitting that their feelings for one another are not purely plantonic, but when Henry has to drop the bombshell that Venna is really a witch and that he has kept this from her, will she ever be able to forgive him?
More troubles are in store for everyone though when Venna's father, a soulless warlock, puts together a band of warlocks, vampires, and werewolves in a bid to overthrown The Supernatural Council, and the heirs find themselves left to deal with the problem alone.
I really enjoyed this book, it was written nicely, was well paced, and held the attention. Henry and Venna were sweet together, but the romance aspect didn't overtake the story, and ideas surrounding the supernatural creatures idea of government were interesting. There were a few inconsistences in the plotline if you thought about it for long enough, but nothing to detract from the story.
I gave it two stars rather than three because I couldn't finish it. I'm older than the target audience on this one and that may have clouded my view but I had a hard time with some of the decisions the adults were making. Having a council that is half made up of young adults that are 18 years old and younger, including one 14 year old who found out about the whole situation the day before was so far out of the realm of possibility that I couldn’t move past it. Spent the middle third of the book laughing which I’m sure wasn’t the authors intent and couldn’t finish it. It she had stayed with the kids I would have really liked this book but the adults were just not believable.
There was a good idea behind the story but it really needed more detail and development as well as some further editing.
I felt like everything was rushed and the dialogue cliche to an annoying level at times but as I said, the idea was decent.
The story just needs to be refined so that all the pieces fit better and the characters are more relatable to one another. The relationships in the book are very ill formed.
The story line itself needed to be defined better. For example, I'm not sure why demon portals were ever mentioned since they never actually factored into the story. Too many wild goose chases make the story too unfocused.
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ A Witch’s Memory offers a charming mix of magical discovery and romantic tension set in a quiet town. Venna’s struggle with magic-induced amnesia creates an intriguing twist on the typical witch story, especially as she navigates her hidden feelings for Henry, whose own secrets add layers to the plot. The story explores themes of identity, trust, and impending supernatural conflict with a sweet and suspenseful tone that draws readers into its enchanting world.
This is the second book by Ms. Isabella that I have read this week. The first being The Unofficial Zack Warren Fan Club. I loved both of her books and I can't wait for Chasing McCree when it releases. I am not known for reading much contemporary romance, but a friend recommended it and at 0.99 it was a steal. So once I was done with TUZWFC (he he) I went back to see if there was anything else by this author. I was very happy to find this gem. I absolutely loved this book. It was just amazing. I loved how Ms. Isabella took your average everyday paranormal romance and made it more. She has written such beautiful loving characters that will stay in your heart. There is nothing I didn't like about this book.
Venna is a girl who has no idea what she is about to remember. She gets a hard shove into the reality of her life and those of the people closest to her. When she has a strange vision (memory) it opens her eyes to a whole new world where all your favourite paranormal creatures exist. Needless to say she is left a little speechless. And to make matters worse, she finds out Henry, her best friend has been lieing to her for the last 8 years.
Henry is the Prince of his kind. He has been friends with Venna since she was 10. He was sent to protect her and stop her from finding out about their world until the time is right. Henry has stuck to his duty even though he wants to tell her. He has stronger feelings for her and feels horrible for lieing to her. He would give anything to be able to tell her the truth, little does he know he is about to get his wish.
Venna and Henry are thrust into a battle between The Council and The Resistance. With Venna remembering her life, spies are revealed, and families are torn apart. Can Venna and Henry survive the secrets and who can be trusted?
I loved the family unity in The Council: A Witch's Memory. You could feel the love between families. Zane and Flora are just amazing, despite being young. They hold their own. The fight scenes are just epic! I think J.C. Isabella did a fantastic job and I look forward to reading more by her. Grab a copy today.
This was a great book for its 99 cent price. I'm always down for a book with a mix of paranormal politics and action. And I love books where good friends or best friends grow up falling in love.
Was it totally mind-blowing? No. Was this book totally unique in it's plot and story development? No. Was it a bit cliche and predictable? Yes. But I still liked it very much.
I only had two complaints about the book, though not big complaints at all, so I'll probably contradict myself a bit.
1) For this type of book, there wasn't a whole lot of action until the end. But it wasn't slow either because you had Venna's memory coming back and the background unfolding as the story goes on. It wasn't one of those books that strung you along until the very end. And I wasn't expecting Venna to be badass or anything, but I was kind of surprised at how much of a weakling Isabella portrayed her as. But I guess it's nice to have a knight in shining armor and a protective brother. And she did hold her ground against Craven.
2) I felt the book focused way too much on the romantic aspect. Funny how I'm one of those girls who have to have romance in her books, and I probably was attracted to this book because of the romance. But it took a good chunk of the first part of the book, and I guess both Venna and Henry were a little too sappy for my taste. Still, it was cute.
Not a very complicated book to follow so I wasn't left frustrated with what's going on, and I wasn't left with questions at the end - two very big pluses in these types of book. Overall, not a bad read at all.
bukan instalove. horeee.. *jogedjoged* Walo pada awalnya Henry deketi Veena karena disuruh orang tuanya untuk jaga Veena. setelah bertahun tahun temenan dan ngerti satu sama lain. Jadi bukan gak mungkin mereka ga saling jatuh cinta. hohoho. suka banget sama Henry. agak kesel di bagian Veena marah. walaupun wajar aja dia marah karena dibohongi, tapi berhubung udah telanjur cinta sama Henry, jadi agak gedek sama si Veena. suka sama Zane, adeknya Veena. Hubungan dia sama flora juga cute. tokoh yang lain juga menyenangkan. si Davy, Quinn, Dmitri. suka mereka <3 sayang, endingnya agak buru buru. jadi kurang berasa greget bukunya..
First and foremost, this book was littered with typos. Possessives instead of plurals, misspellings, incorrect punctuation...it was incredibly distracting. The other issue with this book is that the author does not abide by the "show, don't tell" rule. The story had potential to be decent, but there was no real substance. I did not feel any connection with the characters, and their emotions were not conveyed well -- if at all. I'm not much of a Twilight fan, but there's no denying that Stephenie Meyer, while not Shakespeare, is a damn good storyteller. That's not the case here. I have no desire to continue this series.
She's done it. She's got me hooked on this series and i'm so terribly in love with the characters. The plot line is original as well,, and not just some knockoff of another book which is absolutely AMAZING and she's got me hooked hooked hooked. I've never ever ever been much of a witch fan .. but now she has me questioning myself and i cant help but thinking it was mean of me not to give those other witches book a try just incase they are as amazing as this book is. I recommend this book to everyone.. its seriously addicting <3 4.5 stars!! :DD
I love how venna and Henry grew up together, were friends, then fell in love. there was no instant, angsty feelings. It was a nice sweet live story without a complicated love triangle. I also enjoyed the secondary characters as well. It was a young group of varied supernatural adults, going up against a seemingly more powerful thing. I realy liked this story. it wasn't the best I've read, but it was good. The author caught my attention and kept me reading. I love to read a book I can just get into without forcing myself along. A good read....
I LOVED this book! I literally just finished reading it and can't wait for another book with these characters. Again, Ms. Isabella created perfectly rounded characters, a beautiful story with intrigue, danger and magic. I loved the idea of the Council and how it brought together the three most powerful supernatural beings. Everything about this book make me wish there was another like it out. I definitely recommend it for anyone who loves anything witchy!
My only complaint with this book was that I felt the ending was too abrupt. Everything just wrapped up so nicely and quickly. I really felt that this story would have been better divided up. The entire thing with the Resistance just ended so easily that I would have liked to have had more war and challenges. That was my only real complaint about this book. I loved the story concept and characters, but I would have liked a longer book or series for this story!
Venna has been in love with henry ,her friend for long time..and when she wants to tell him st-last the timing might not be so right as henry has kept secrets from Venna and there's more to her than she knows ans her world will be upside down when her birthday comes. Can she trust henry again n accept the world she dropped into one she was always in ?
A good paranormal read..will try reading the next one in series!
4.5 STARS For YA Paranormal readers this is a good book to read. It is a series but it's worth getting into. It has good world building and does answer your Qs at the end. There were times I felt were a little rushed and would have beenbetter stretched out like before all the magik starts but it does keep ur attention and the romance doesn't get overly gushy- just the right amount lol- also had action which is always a bonus. CANT WAIT FOR SECOND BOOK!
J.C. Isabella did it again! This book was so great I loved every moment♥ It was so cute and romantic, and it also that some mytical stuff with is awesome♥ So I must say, That you must read it because I say it was a great and well written book ! Great book and I hope J.C.Isabella writes a lot because I'm deeply attached to her books so I'm going to read every book she write!
I was so excited to read this series and I love how JC Isabella write from both boy girl POVs. This book is the Warlock/Witch story for Henry and Venna. Henry and Venna are best friends who have feelings for the other than they can't bring themselves to admit. But little do they realize how perfect they are for each other.
the books in this series seem to have in each a focus on one typical "supernatural" being, this one focusing on witches. but it was more of a teen friend/love story rather than witchy witch stuff. not boring but an easy read. it seems that while each book in this series focuses on one type of being they are all intertwined in the same story. i read the second book just as a casual continuance.
I put off reading this book for a while because I wasn't sure about how I would like it. I regret that decision completely...this book is absolutely amazing!! I would highly recommend this series to anyone who a paranormal book fan. This series has a combination of witches, werewolves and vampires and J. C. Isabella mixes the three supernatural families together perfectly.
Not as quick as I thought it would be, 150 pages ish, sweet, I bought it for the love story which was good, but the paranormal stuff was good too. I wish it had a sequel but I don't think it will. More of an easy read, fun not very changing.
Made it 65% through. Had a lot of potential but I just got bored. I usually quite enjoy new adult and young adult books but I think the target for this one was probably the younger end of the YA/NA range.
