It’s Halloween, and all Zan wants to do is see his girlfriend smile when he gives her a four-month anniversary gift. Instead, he crosses paths once more with tragedy, and is pressed to solve a murder.
Zan is no ordinary high school boy, though, and he believes he can use his magical power to find the killer. His unusual talent is the ability to discover any girl’s secrets, from the past, present, or future. The trick is he has to get the girl to put her finger in his belly button, a feat that is sometimes easy, but often not.
Even with his visions, Zan won’t find this murder easy to solve, especially when he can’t tell who, or what, is on his side. As he unravels ancient secrets, Zan will get closer to the killer, and will be forced to choose sides. If he makes the wrong choice, someone dear to him will pay the price.
SWARM is the second book in a series, The Paranormal Poke Chronicles, but may be read as a stand-alone novel.
This is the second book, following Poke, in a series. I enjoyed revisiting the characters from the first book. They were still lively and entertaining, and their witty banter, especially between the three main characters, is humorous. The plot line was interesting and moved along well most of the time. A few times I felt it dragged a little and became lost in the mental wanderings of the narrator.
Also, I had trouble deciding how I should feel about one of the "bad guys" from the first book who is also present in this book. The character seems to be written in a more sympathetic way this time. Her actions and attitudes swing between good and bad, and I found it a bit difficult to understand how I should view her.
The book is written in first person narrative the entire time until the next to last chapter, when it switches to a third-person limited view between two characters. The final chapter returns to the main character's narrative voice, so I found that switch jarring. It seemed to only be included in order to thicken the plot for subsequent books and show readers a bit of action that wouldn't have been "seen" because it couldn't have been witnessed by the main character.
Overall, the book was enjoyable, and I will probably read the rest of the series when it is published.
'Swarm' was a great follow up book to the first instalment in this series 'Poke'.
During this book Zan, the lead character with the psychic belly button powers, tends to be a bit more mature and is thrown into trying to solve a murder mystery. More supernatural themes get introduced and built upon in this book and rather than it concentrating so much on his love interest, Austin, like the first book did (which I was very grateful for), it concentrates more on the murder mystery with Zan also trying to work out how to harness his powers properly so that he can use them to help him along the way.
There seemed to be quite a lot of character development in this book which I liked because you get a good feel for each one which makes you look forward to future instalments. Each main character has their own quirks which make them all likeable individuals.
This book could possibly be read as a stand alone book, but to really appreciate each character and their beginnings I would recommend reading 'Poke' first. Also, there are certain plot aspects that might be a little confusing if you haven't read the first book prior to starting this one.
Overall, this is a great light read for YA book lovers. It's certainly not a series to read if you want anything with too much depth but if you're after a fun, easy to read story with likeable characters then I'd recommend this one.
This book is amazing! I devoured it easily within just a matter of days! I couldn't tear myself away from the world Dalya Moon had created around her main character Zan. There were moments I laughed out loud and moments that simply shocked me by the twist.
It's a follow up (although it can be read separately) to Poke. This story has more mystery and intrigue than the first which absolutely kept me on the edge of my seat!
An enjoyable easy read. The characters have grown on me and Zan is really easy to like. He has the right amount of charm, personality and intelligence to make you want to root for him.The ending provided a nice closure for this book with just enough of a hint of whats to come in the following sequels. * NOTE- I was given a copy in exchange for a review.
Swarm continues where Poke left off. It's Halloween and Zan is looking forward to celebrating with his friends. Instead he finds a body, and is compelled to find the murderer. Filled with twists and turns, will Zan be able to save the day and solve the murder mystery? Read and find out! Another enjoyable read.
In this book, Zan learns more about what his power is and what he is fully capable of. This book has every aspect that you are looking for in a book, no matter the genre. It has loveable characters, characters you can hate, surprises, intrigue, murder, and more. This title is such a fun, creative, and awesome book, which I enjoyed from cover to cover.
