Clonmacnoius situated on the east bank of the river Shannon, dates from the 6th century and is one of the earliest and most important monastic sites in Ireland. The ruins of seven churches along with two round towers and some of Ireland's finest high crosses occupy the site today. The Clonmacnois collection is one of the greatest in Ireland.
