The cover is lovely. The blurb seems similar to The No-Show by Beth O'Leary. Someone Borrowed would've been a better title.
It's a fun read about a woman, her boss, and her boyfriend's ex-girlfriend competing for the affection of the same guy. Luke is a jerk for the way he broke up with Beth; it also appears that he was two-timing her with Laura. It's fascinating to read the account of a fuckboy who strings women along effortlessly. This just goes to reaffirm that career success doesn't translate into successful relationships. Every character is a fully-grown adult. It's good to read about some of their wise, inspiring decisions.
The plot is fun, fresh, and a nice palate cleanser between heavy reads. It can be binge-read in a day. I wanted to read this given the blurb, then it got lost in my TBR, and then I randomly picked it again—just goes to show that sometimes the best reads are the unplanned ones. Do try it if you're comfortable with a little bit of cheating. It's not spicy either, except for one page.

I truly don't know where to start with this one. My thoughts are all over the place about concerning Something Borrowed. I decided to take a chance on a new author and a theme I'm not overly familiar with in my reading (cheating) and let's just say it was a RIDE. The positives for this one were definitely that it was short, made me laugh in parts (the office confrontation had me in near tears 😂😬) and that it was a bit of old school soap opera OTT bonkers. Actually those last two points are also negatives as well. I had no idea what to expect but it wasn't OTT drama. Everyone in this book was capital 'M' messy, even the sister side character! The MMC, Lucky is a liar and cheater but somehow weaves a spell over all these ladies to the point of madness, irrational jealousy and instalove. The ladies are so enamoured with Lucky that they all blame each other for his murky behaviour. I suspect the author was just going for an almost reality tv style of the ridiculous drama of complicated relationships. It was fun but also again, a mess.
The main thing that REALLY detracted from my experience with Something Borrowed, was the writing style. It did not agree with me and made the reading a slog. From page one, the need for editing was apparent. From one sentence to the next the POV would change and it was unbelievably frustrating. It read like I was watching a show that included a screenplay voiceover of thoughts for every character on screen but was devoid of any coherence. I mean, there was even moments when we get thoughts from a random assistant! Just terrible. Pick a voice, a tense, a style. The experience would have been much better had Carey given each character their own CHAPTER points of view and plotted the drama that way instead of switching and swapping every sentence/paragraph.
While this was truly a frustratingly baffling yet (in moments) hilarious experience, I can't say I'd be interested in having it again. If you want a messy love quadrangle and POV whiplash won't grind on your experience, Something Borrowed might just be for you.
"Something Borrowed" by Michelle Carey is a spellbinding dive into the world of love and relationships. I found myself immersed and genuinely invested in this novel. Carey weaves a web of passion, deceit, and confusion. I was entangled in all the dilemmas and shared in their emotional turmoil. "Something Borrowed" is a story that reflects relationships’ real and often messy nature.
If you enjoy romance, drama, and well-rounded characters, "Something Borrowed" is a must-read. I guarantee you'll be hooked from start to finish. It was such a good read that I found it impossible to put it down.
This book is filled with so much OTT drama while Lucky is cheating with three women while trying to keep each a secret from the others. The ultimate confrontation scene was hilarious, but I couldn't understand how this man hooked three women in the first place! It was confusing trying to follow along sometimes when characters thoughts kept interrupting the scene. It could use some more editing.
Something Borrowed by Michelle Carey deals with one of my least favorite topics to read about…cheating! This book will have your emotions in shambles. It is intriguing, captivating and will keep you glued to the pages! It has nonstop drama from the beginning to the end! It was well written, had great character development and an eye popping storyline!.

Something Borrowed deals with the topic of cheating and had my emotions all over the place. It is intriguing and kept me glued to the pages because I couldn't see how this guy managed to weave his spell over these three women and they buy it. It is filled with nonstop drama from start to finish.

While Luke/Lucky made me mad at times, I enjoyed this love story. I gotta say, this story was DRAMA filled. And I LOVED every minute of it. Once I started I couldn’t put it down.
What a ride. Lol Wished it was longer! Well written drama, I felt invested in the characters and their journeys. The ending had elements of Fatal Attraction, the movie, not the tv show.
