sighs... a Cinderella story with a title from early childhood education. I want to like this author. She is making it difficult.

Having finished the book, I can say she has made it nearly impossible. This was a total slog. Charlie, who was always quite charming in the other books, lost all of his appeal in his own story. Daisy was a mess. And not the fun kind of mess, the exasperating kind. The evil stepsisters were a confusion of characteristics. Once again, it seemed to me, Kramer could not fully commit to them being all evil or all good, so she just made them everything. And in the grand tradition of this series, there was more soap-opera drama in these pages than you will find watching a week's worth of General Hospital.

Examples include: gender-confusion, cross-dressing, attempted sexual assault, attempted murder by drowning... just to name a few.

All this coupled with the strangest, hardest-to-follow epilogue I have ever read... whew. I'm glad this series is over.

This is a true Cinderella story...right down to the wicked stepmother, two stepsisters and glass slippers.
It is book 4 of the Impossible Bachelor series and the first of the series (and this author) that I've read.
I'm sorry to say, I was disappointed in this read. I just never quite came to like the characters. Any of them. This was not a can't put it down "just one more chapter" again and again before bed book. For me, this was a "how many more pages - am I EVER going to finish this" book.
I'll give this author another read but it will be way down on the to read stack.

# Pages Survived: 161

This book sucked ass. I admit it- said novel more than surpassed the 60 page benchmark, tripled it, in fact. But, still, the book was god-awful. The characters weren't bland, the story-line wasn't lacking, and the plot was interesting enough. Ironically, what killed this particular book mid-story, for me, was the writing. For some unknown reason, Kieran Kramer's style seemed to read more along the lines of a high school senior attempting to write her first fiction piece for an English portfolio.

Additionally, I likewise found myself sometimes cringing at the syntax used by nearly all characters involved, but most especially the heroine. To my eyes, the female protagonist came off as a modern woman plucked from the present, and dropped into the era. Her role as tormented "Cinderella" swish-swashed from abused, meekly quiet gal to head-strong smart mouth, all within an entirely too short a time span.

Sadly, upon finishing (or not finishing, as the case is) this particular novel, I do realize that I still have another Kramer book in my stash. Since I didn't hate this book enough to ban the author from my reading list completely, I will give the writer one more chance. If the next book bombs for the same reason, I'm chucking said book to the nearest wall, PDQ.

Awful!! After reading "The Invisible Bridge" which was long, dark, and horrific...I really wanted to just read a mindless light fun romance. This book sounded so cute & promising. Romances already are by nature pretty corny (which is what makes them enjoyable to me), but this one was so insipid. Charlie was a stupid hero. Daisy even worse. Somewhere along the line is some weird Cinderella-esque plot that made no sense. I really wanted to stop reading about 30% into the book but because of my neurotic'ness about unfinished books, I dragged myself through the remainder of the book (mostly skimming) but even that took over a week!

If you've kept up with Kieran Kramer's Impossible Bachelor's series, you know that Charles Thorpe has done everything possible to avoid the parson's trap his best friends have fallen into. Impossible or not, Charlie has found himself smack dab in the middle of a Cinderella story (complete with glass slippers) where he can only hope he's Prince Charming to a certain Highland lass.

Daisy Montgomery has spent the last year grieving the lost of her beloved father while having to deal with her hateful stepmother and two stepsisters. Her home, Castle Vandermere, is falling apart and they are without the funds to repair what is broken or to pay the yearly feu that is coming up in a month. But while digging through her father's things, Daisy finds a letter from a Lady Pinckney to her father demanding to be Godmother to his daughter, should he have one. Delighted to think she might have some way out of her current mess, she write to her Godmother. Only when the reply comes, it's not from Lady Pinckney, but rather her grandson, Viscount Lumley. He tells her he's on his way and will assist Daisy in her time of need in his grandmother's stead.

Charlie Thorpe made a bet with his three best friends. He's going to take a trip to Scotland, without spending or borrowing a penny and help his grandmother's goddaughter out of her mess...also without spending or borrowing a penny. If he can't do it, he'll be forced onto the marriage mart. Charlie has no clue what waits for him at Castle Vandermere, but Daisy Montgomery was not it. She peaked his interest immediately with her straightforwardness and stubborness. But he was leary of her when she says she wanted his grandmother (and now him) for the money needed to ensure she and her family can stay in their home and repair it. Is she another one of those woman who only uses him for his money (and then tosses him aside) or is Daisy Montgomery the one woman that will show Charles Thorpe what kind of man he is?

I truly enjoyed this spin on Cinderella. We have the horrid, evil stepmother and the equally horrid stepsisters. A house in disrepair and no money to fix it and the Prince Charming who's going to make all the problems go away. We even have the mice (if only from an old Scottish poem) and glass slippers!

What was great about this version of Cinderalla was having a Prince Charming who wasn't so perfect. Charlie doubted many things about himself and used that doubt to excuse his behavior or to push away people. It took his falling out with Daisy for him to realize he had to have a little faith in himself and others to have what he wanted.

Daisy, had her own demons. Being made to believe she was less than her stepsister and then repeatedly being told she was responsible for the death of her father took it's toll on her. She was beaten down by the burdens she carried. Once Charlie was in the picture, he made her realize it's nice to share the burdens of life with someone and to deep down know you're worth having some happiness.

There road was not an easy one, but in the end they both got what they deserved.

IF YOU GIVE A GIRL A VISCOUNT by Kieran Kramer
11/11 - St. Martin's Press - Mass Market Paperback, 384 pages

Has my life turned out the way I expected it would?

Daisy Montgomery has a huge problem that needs someone to show up and rescue her white horse and all. Daisy’s nightmare of a step family has decided to use the secrets they know about her to steal her holdings, and keep her working as a servant not the mistress of the manor. What her family does not know is Daisy will not be kept down and will save her family home by contacting the best reinforcements she has her godmother to help her out.

Instead of the person Daisy expected, Charles Thorpe, Viscount Lumley shows up. Charlie is her godmother’s grandson who apparently has come to help her on a bet which so far has turned into a nightmare he did not expect. The man has no money nor any ideas on how to help her do anything especially keep the property and get rid of the step-monsters. The upside is he wants to try and Daisy is desperate enough to drag him into her plans which seem far fetched but something is better than nothing. The two toss around ideas, plot aggressive tactics, and dance around an attraction that is growing more intense every moment they are together. The question for Daisy is why is Charlie so willing to help, Daisy has nothing to offer but he certainly seems willing to be part of her aggressive tactics. If she were a betting woman she might think there were alternative motives, but whatever could they be since his goal is to get back to London as soon as possible.

Daisy and Charlie are a creative and inventive team of creative with the ability to make something out of nothing. They learn to trust each other to venture past the line of appropriate society in their bid to save Daisy’s home and preserve her virtue with one being a tad more difficult than the other. As time progresses and they are drawn more into each other arms they know that trust is not the issue, but letting go of past pain is. When you have made mistakes it is difficult to know who you can lean on and be the person that you should not let get away.

This fourth book in The Impossible Bachelors series with its enchanting characters and whimsical touches of romance is a great way to wrap up the series. I have a weakness for female characters named Daisy as they are always strong, smart and know what they want. Combine that with Charlie and you have a match made of legendary proportion.

So when I finished this book and took a minute to really think about it, my first thought was, "Well, that was a bit odd."

This is a loose Cinderella re-telling. The author had a hard time committing to the characters. Their personality changes were giving me whiplash. The plot needed to be fleshed out. The intimate scenes followed the same formula as the previous two books in this series I read.

There was just too much going on, too much the author wanted to write about, and it just didn't come together for me. Some things meant to be funny, just came off in poor taste.

And this was one of the strangest epilogues I have ever read. Again, cramming more info into the very last chapter.

I usually try to read a series in order and I know this is the 4th in a series, so I feel some guilt in not reading the other books first. As I started this book and hit chapter two, I encountered Charles and the rest of the impossible bachelors. Part of me wanted to stop right there as the other men were introduced, it bothered me that I didn't know their stories or their characters. I won this in First Reads and this is a new to me author, so I forged on, waiting to see if this world the author built would grab me, and boy did it!

I struggled with the first chapter, not sure where the story was going and trying to feel out Daisy's character. This story had a Cinderella feel to it and I wasn't sure I was going to like it. I kept at it and discovered that it may have the Cinderella feel but it has so many different twists and turns to it that I focused on the characters themselves and not what I first perceived it as. Chapter three really took off for me and I became so invested in this book. When Daisy and Charles first meet, I saw such an undercurrent of such need and chemistry that I couldn't put the book down. The chemistry between these tow was electic and I was not only invested in this book but the outcome of these two characters. Daisy's stepmom and two step sisters treat her poorly to say the least and as the story progressed I found myself hating these characters and hoping karma would come in and take care of them. The author came in and surprised me, by again taking a different path than I had expected and in the case of the two sisters, I found myself almost rooting for them. I ended up caring about Cassandra and Perdita brought me to laughter as I tried to form a picture of her in my head. It shocked me to see them become so much more.

What really brought me to love this story was Daisy's strength of character and the growth that Charles did. I've gotta say, the scene on the stone steps that these two had together was beautiful and I loved seeing Daisy really let go and be cherished. I will point out that the epilogue was both sweet and maybe a little overtly sweet, but I couldn't have imagined the story ending any other way. I don't read a lot of historicals, I sometimes have a hard time getting into this genre, but I'm really glad I read this book and I have to thank Kieran for a great read. I will definitely be getting the rest of the series and can't wait to read about the rest of the impossible bachelors

This is the 4th book in the Impossible Bachelors series, and I could say the author ended the series with a wonderful fairytale-like story. “If you give a girl a viscount” is a stand-alone story with a feisty, witty and determined heroine, and a seductively handsome viscount.

The characters are enchanting and each of them really stands out in the story, the stepmother, stepsisters, godmother, the friendly housekeepers, the prince and Cinderella of course… it’s a big twist but the Cinderella story can be found represented in the story. It’s quite funny how Charlie did his best to avoid the shackles of marriage but at the end, he ends up with a very different highland lass, one that could match up to his wills and could even make his mind go crazy..:D

What makes this story outstanding, is because the Prince Charming, isn’t really an ideal one, well, except for his money, besides being a playboy, and constantly thinks he can always rely on his money. Meanwhile, Daisy the heroine here, thinks about money (his money) to repair her home and kept the people she cared for.

Together, they grow and learn to trust each other, and slowly realize they’re falling in love! I loved the fact that they please each other with Charlie not taking Daisy’s virtue, but you could still feel the sensuality..:)

I love the poems, the witty and straightforward remarks, it especially made me laugh, Perdita’s cross-dressing, actually there are a lot of funny things in this book. Ms. Kramer also has this wonderful ability to turn evil characters in the story to something readers won’t expect, the good and lovable ones, I happened to love Daisy’s step-sisters..

The ending was a little unexpected for me, I got a little confused a bit, though I can’t tell you why..:)… but I later realized it though…it’s a cute ending, guess I just want to read about their wedding..hehe

I usually loved series, don’t get me wrong I loved this one too, I just felt guilty since I hadn’t read the 3 books yet..:)… and it seems like each of them had his share of good romance too…:) The book is full of sizzling romance, shocking revelations, funny scenes, and a little drama.

I can't wait to see what Ms. Kramer has next in store for readers. :D
A must read for any historical romance readers who enjoys a few laughs along the way.

Yep, it's another Cinderella story, complete with a godmother and Glass (capital G) slippers.

Cindy (or Daisy, in this case) lives in a castle with her awful stepmum and stepsisters, and they've gotten her in a helluva fix. She wrote to her godmother for help.

Charles Thorpe, Viscount Lumley, is an Impossible Bachelor, and totally uninterested in anything besides making and spending loads and loads of money, having fun, and avoiding matrimony at all costs. His grandmother has gone abroad for awhile and she asked him to look after her obligations, which include her numerous godchildren. He got Daisy's letter, and he's going to try to help her with her mysterious problem. He's been taking heat from his family for his ne'er do well ways, and even his former ne'er do well buddies agree, so they challenge him. If he can make the journey to the nethers of Scotland, help the girl out, and make it home without spending a sou of his own money, they'll make sure he gets a prize worthy of his effort. If he fails, he goes on the dreaded Marriage Mart.

The thing is, what Daisy needs IS money, so they come up with a crazy plan. They hijack the BIGGER castle up the hill a ways from Daisy's—its owner is some absentee landlord who clearly doesn't give a rodent's bottom about the estate or its dependents—and host a big 10 day long hunting party for a bunch of rich tourists.

Meanwhile, Daisy has secrets, as do her steps, and when all is revealed, ain't nobody happy.

This is a fun bit of fluff complete with cross-dressing and some OTT villains. You might see the twist coming but it's satisfying. The final relationship crisis was kinda wrenching, but the resolution was a bit too easy for my tastes. 3.5 stars.

Daisy Montgomery is a real life Cinderella. She’s miserable and determined to save her family home from her wicked stepmother and stepsisters. When she discovers she has a godmother, Daisy thinks she’s found a way to solve her problems. But instead of her godmother, it’s her godmother’s grandson, a rakish viscount, who answers Daisy’s plea.

Charles Thorpe is the last remaining “Impossible Bachelor.” With his closest friends happily wed, the playboy viscount decides to wager that he can get to Scotland and solve problems by his wits alone. But when faced with Daisy’s problems, Charlie realizes he might be in over his head. What’s more, his days as a bachelor might be coming to an end. For this Scottish Cinderella is fast capturing his Impossible Bachelor heart.

If you give a reviewer a romance with a fairytale plotline and a cute title, she’s going to want to love it. At least, that’s true if the reviewer is me. Sadly, If You Give a Girl a Viscount was a disappointing story. I couldn’t connect with either Charlie or Daisy and didn’t find Kieran Kramer’s humor at all funny, which means the book dragged for me. Furthermore, it seemed like the author couldn’t figure out what kind of “villains” she wanted the stepmother and stepsisters to be. I got whiplash from the number of inorganic personality changes that occurred in If You Give a Girl a Viscount.

If You Give a Girl a Viscount is the fourth Impossible Bachelors book but it can be read as a standalone. I own but haven’t read When Harry Met Molly, Dukes to the Left of Me, Princes to the Right, and Cloudy with a Chance of Marriage, and perhaps I’ll enjoy those books more than I did Charlie and Daisy’s story.

The fourth and last book in the "Impossible Bachelor" series. I would have to say that I didn't enjoy this one so much as the other three books. Based very much off the Cinderella tale, with the two wicked step-sisters and the awful step-mother. I'm tired of the story no matter how many different ways that it's told. The very rich and very rakish Viscount, Charles Thorpe has been cut off from the family coffers. Even though he is the one who is responsible for a lot of the wealth the family has accrued, his family has grown tired of his rakish ways and is determined that he marry and settle down before he destroys their wealth. His grandmother, sends him a letter and asks for him to go the aide of a young woman in Scottland by the name of Daisy Montgomery, who is in dire need of help. Before he leaves, his friends Stephen, Harry, and Nicholas all make a bet with him.. he can't go to Scottland and spend a dime. He has to do everything only by the use of his wits and if he does spend his money that he has no choice but to marry. Daisy, who also happens to be the God-daughter of Charles's grandmother, is the housemaid, seamstress, and jack of all trades in her own home. She is constantly tormented and put to work by her nasty step-mother and two step-sisters, while they spend her father's money and torment their poor and very small staff. They are facing the loss of their castle within so many weeks if Daisy cannot find the tax money that is coming due. When Charles comes to her aid, he steps in as her false fiancé and they work together to come up with the money to save her castle. A scandalous incident in her past puts up road blocks between any relationship that could take place between them.

Okay, I could not finish this. I know the title is totally hilarious, and it was really horribly badly written, but I skipped ahead for like three minutes, and then I couldn't bring myself to care about anything at all. Once I knew that the girl and the dude got together life itself seemed meaningless. So, I got about a quarter of the way in and that was it. Sorry, guys!

This was too close to "Cinderella" in the beginning and in spots throughout it for me to fully enjoy it. It wasn't exact, but there were a lot of parallels. The ending was totally different from "Cinderella", so that helped a lot.

mau kasih 3.75 bintang.....berhubung gak ada jadi tulis 4 bintang deh
cover nya bagus...warnanya keren dan eng nya gampang....

Daisy Montgomery hidupnya kasihan sekali....cinderella banget...tinggal bersama ibu tiri dan 2 saudara tiri yang jahat.....
after ayahnya meninggal, daisy diperlakukan seperti pembantu...

kalo kalah si charlie mesti mau masuk 'market' buat menikah....

so bukannya banyak duit malah tambah miskin hahahah....

charlie juga gentleman banget....walo ngapa2 in tapi tetep gak bakal bikin daisy hilang virtue nya.....walopun daisy nya sebenernya mau :p

dikira charlie daisy tertarik sama mr.king...padahal daisy maunya ngejodohin mr.king sama cassie....biar cassie gak ngejar2 charlie lagi....

-the end-

nb :panjang banget ripiu nya...capek nulisnya :p

An interesting plot set in Scotland

I was confused about the stepsisters. All the time they seemed to be changing personality. Suddenly they seemed to become kind and then they would change again. I don't know why, during the epilogue, Daisy said she came to love Cassandra. Also the epilogue was weird: why were they adopting so many kids? I guess it's because they didn't think they could have any children idk...

I put this book down for a day too.

Probably more like 3 1/2 stars… It was interesting and I kind of enjoyed some of the terms the plat took. He was a little bit hard to get into maybe… I’m not really sure. But I enjoyed it well enough to say, go ahead and give it a read. It’s a nice quick Read as well which is really nice.

it says something that I bought this at a used book store yesterday thinking I had somehow not read it and then started reading it and remembered that in fact I totally had already read it. sigh. it's not very good. my favorite is still the first in this series though I kind of want to read numbers 2 and 3 again just to check.

this one is basically a pretty ridiculous retelling of Cinderella except characters change behavior at the drop of a hat in order to move the plot along. they do some truly odd things. I'd give examples but I don't want to ruin it for you.

If you have ready more than 20 historical romances, you could probably follow the outline for this one.

The moment I read the blurb of Kieran Kramer's latest book, I was humming "Single Ladies" by Beyonce for the rest of the day. Ha! Now you'll be humming it. You're welcome. :)

Oh Kieran Kramer, thank you for the fantastic ab workout. I laughed, I cried, I snorted, I sighed and I giggled.Out of all the Impossible Bachelor series, this one is my favorite. A new spin on the Cinderella story. And you know how I love me a Cinderella story.

The Cinderella Elements:
1. Cinderella. Daisy Montgomery lives with her stepmother, two stepsisters (different as night and day) and two very loyal servants. In desperation, she writes to her godmother in hopes of securing funds to keep the castle running and her family from getting thrown out. She's headstrong, straightforward and compassionate. However, she hates her step-family and blames herself for her father's death.
2. Prince Charming. Okay, he's not a prince but he's a viscount. Charles "Charlie" Thorpe, Viscount Lumley is stinking rich, has property all over the place and doesn't have a care in the world. His family has cut him off, his friends (the other Impossible Bachelors) have married and settled down, he doesn't know what to do with himself. He's currently seeing to his godmother's affairs and Daisy's letter leads him to the middle of nowhere Scotland. A wager with his friends: he couldn't survive being penniless, gets the ball rolling after he shares the letter.
3. Evil stepmother. Mona married Daisy's father, taking advantage of his grief over the death of Daisy's mother. She's mean, she's condescending, she's manipulative and a total she-bitch. She may need a bottle of Rogaine for the bald patches on her head.
4. Mean stepsister #1. Cassandra is a beauty but very shallow. All she cares about is flirting, fripperies and being mean to Daisy. She looks nothing like her mother or her sister.
5. Mean stepsister #2. Perdita looks like a drag queen. She has broad shoulders and doesn't know what an indoor voice is. She's socially awkward, blurts out whatever comes to mind and eats. A lot.
6. Fairy godmother. In lieu of her real godmother, Charlie goes and tries to be at her beck and call.
7. The ball. To raise money, Daisy and Charlie invite the rich people from neighboring villages to a ten day Highland games event which ends with a ceilidh, a dance.
8. The glass slipper. There is a man in the village named Mr. Glass (get it???) who makes slippers, each uniquely tailored for the wearer. Only a loved one can commission the making of the slippers.
9. The tree. Daisy's father bring her a lemon seed and from all the years that the tree grows, only one lemon ever comes into fruition. (In one of the earlier versions, it's a hazel tree. Bet you didn't know that little bit of Cinderella trivia.)
10. Dressing up and going to the ball. Surprise! It's Perdita dressed as the son of a son of a Highlander, in a kilt. Yup, this takes the earlier cross dressing comment and makes it real. It's such a hilarious scene that I may have wet myself from laughing so hard.

FAVORITE QUOTE: "He was half drunk. He was in an ill temper. He was an Impossible Bachelor. With no money. It was hell being poor. He'd found no redeeming value in it. The irony was, whether he was in rags or in a London ballroom, he was pursued for his purse either way."

OVERALL: A fun, flirty and whimsical conclusion to the Impossible Bachelors series. *squee* Oh you guys. I love this book. Daisy and Charlie play off of each other well. Their banter is witty and fun, their chemistry sizzles. I wanted to slap Mona and tell her to quit her bitchin' but the stepsisters (both of them) really surprised me. There's a whole other side to each of them that slowly gets revealed as the story goes along. Of course it's always fun to catch up with the previous Impossible Bachelors and their wives and Ms. Kramer doesn't disappoint. Between trying to keep from getting thrown out, planning a ten day Highland games event, sheering sheep, pretending to be engaged, taking crap from the mean stepsisters and stepmother and secretly sharing passionate kisses comes a story full of love, laughter, forgiveness and a happily ever after in the Highlands. I can't wait to see what Ms. Kramer has next in store for readers. :)

If You Give A Girl A Viscount (Impossible Bachelors #4)
by Kieran Kramer

5 stars

If life were a fairy tale, Daisy Montgomery’s stepmother and two stepsisters would surely be cast in the wicked roles. For years, they’ve made life miserable for Daisy. But when she discovers she has a godmother, she’s determined to ask her for help. Little did Daisy expect her godmother to play matchmaker with her very own grandson—who happens to be a viscount!

A freewheeling playboy, Charles Thorpe, Viscount Lumley, is bored with his wealth-seeking female admirers. Not only that, he’s been cut off from the family coffers. One day, on a bet, he rids himself of what little money he has left in his pockets and vows to solve problems using his wits alone. But when the Impossible Bachelor is confronted with Daisy’s plan to save her castle, the payoff is more than he could have bargained for. Sometimes, if you give a girl a viscount, you just might find love….

My Thoughts and Review

This is a delightful fun read. I just love Kieran Kramer books. Charles Thorpe, Viscount Lumley grandmother sends him on an errand to her god daughter Daisy. Daisy families estate is in disarray and needs the monies for repairs and for the land tax or they are out of a home.Daisy cares for her home and her servants and wants nothing but put this to rights to save her home an have a place to share with the ones she loves. Daisy lives with her stepsister and stepmother who treat her so disrespectful and with cruelty. The Cinderella thing going on here.

Charles is funny her he is a Lord here doing a girls bidding and its funny to see. Charles not of the like in thinking that he better then her he is willing to do her bidding at his grandmothers request. The problem is to come up with that kind of cash in a sort amount of time is really impossible.Daisy and Charles hatches a plan to have a Highland's experience at is best.A reenactment of sorts of the time gone by.The just need the rich to come and join in the festivities. While doing all of this the two ,Daisy and Charles are growing closer together and feelings are starting to stir with one another.Charles sees how hard Daisy works and caring for her servants that he does an extra step to help out. He tells everyone the Daisy is his bride to be and that she is to be shown respect deserving as his Countess to be. While setting up all the festivities she not only has to put that all together she has to deal with the jealousies of the three women. The stepmother basically blackmails her saying she is to stay away from the viscount that she is not going to marry him that her daughter is and if she does not she will expose her secret. The newly forming relationship has now turned into a sneaking around don't get caught thing.

The thing is that the Landlord (land-holder I should say )that they pay the taxes to has been an absentee one. He does not know what is going on around him and the person in charge is acting on behalf of the owner is about evict this family without his knowledge. The thing is Daisy is working so hard o say something that she technically does n"'t even own. Her step family is already spending the money not even made yet for the own selfish reasons.

The Highlanders experience is starting out pretty good so far. Charles jealousy is inflame when one of the guests pursues Daisy. He feels protective of her and has feeling for her even if he does not know where there relationship is going but, they make such a cute couple as he cares for her.Things are never simple plots thicken.Someone plots murder and its a tangled web in need of untangling.

Secrets are revealed and I am not sure love is enough ...to undo the damage that comes to light we will just have to see how the story pans out....

While reading this story the whole time I kept thinking of the movie with Drew Barrymore (A Cinderella Story)where she meets her prince. Daisy's life is some much like this fairy tale. Loved the two main characters Charles and Daisy the others I would have found a way to rid them of my life as soon as possible. The love and romance and intrigue made in a fun quick read for me.You feel Daisies pain and you do nothing but root for her Happily Ever after....A Recommended read to all

I don't know what to say about this book. A Cinderella story with a not so charming prince and two stepsisters with identity crisis. At least the stepmother was truly evil.

I like the heroin. Thank God for that. And of course the hero was having, do she love me for me or my money. And when she left, he was brokenhearted. Well, he brought it upon himself with the accusations.

Daisy was strong. Maybe a bit pushy and forward but strong enough to place her priorities. At least she's not sitting in a corner nursing her heart. She continued with life. He intention was good. She needed money for rent and not that she took it for free. She saw it as a loan.

The epilogue though, was a bit confusing at first. I don't know, I skipped that part.

The final of 4 books in the series, I have enjoyed Ms. Kramer's wit throughout the entire series, including the play on movies in the titles. I wish we could give half stars because while this book isn't a 4 star, it's not a 3 either. The final book is Charlie's story, the last Impossible Bachelor, and is a Scottish Cinderella story. He undertakes a visit to Scotland, penniless on a bet from his married friends, to help his grandmother's goddaughter.

Charlie is defined by his money. He uses his wealth to hide behind because he cannot get past his distrust of others, especially women, only wanting his money. Hence his fear of marriage and the marriage mart. But deep down, Charlie is a sweet caring guy. He is not a strong alpha male, always bossing others around, that one typically finds in romance novels. Instead, he easily listens to others, incorporates their ideas and makes them work. He is much closer to a modern day businessman.

Daisy is the Cinderella to Charlie's Prince Charming (or in this case The Golden Girl to his Golden Prince). She is complete with 2 wicked stepsisters and a wicked stepmother who constantly boss her around. She is forthright and knows exactly what she wants, but also very vulnerable. Daisy's heart is enormous and she is extends that heart to even those who don't deserve it. Daisy carries a lot of guilt, which takes the entire book and the twists and turns of the story for her to lose.

Nothing you know at the start of the book will be the same by the end. While the overarching theme is a Cinderella story, it is much more universal to all the characters and not limited to just Daisy. They all have to undergo a transformation, each helping the other to achieve it. The book did bog down in the middle because there are only so many times that stepmothers and stepsisters can be wicked before you want either Daisy or Charlie to say enough and be done with them. Also the one major twist in the book was not a shock to me. There were plenty of clues dropped along the way that I was surprised Charlie had not figured it out sooner. But that in of itself made Charlie's reaction to the twist much more realistic and in character. Mostly, I just wanted the book to hurry up and get to the happily ever after. Also, I disliked that much of Charlie's and Daisy's romance was conducted off page.

The final pages of the story and the epilogue are incredible touching and one should keep tissues nearby.

2.5 Stars

It’s always frustrating when you go into a book expecting to really like it, and then soon find out that that book is not going to work for you.  I’m not necessarily talking about high expectations.  I’m talking about when you know the types of books you love, and you come across a book that seems to fit in that area perfectly, and then you read it and you’re just meh about it.  Well, that’s what happened to me with If You Give a Girl a Viscount by Kieran Kramer.  I was completely dispassionate about If You Give a Girl a Viscount, and that’s not a good thing.

Daisy, the heroine of this story, is basically like Cinderella in her Scottish home.  Her mother and stepsisters are ghastly to her, but she loves her home and is desperate to find a way to make their situation better.  So she write to her newly-discovered godmother, but it turns out that her godmother (someone Daisy’s never met before) is away, and her grandson is taking care of her business.  The grandson being one of the Impossible Bachelors, Charles Thorpe, Viscount Lumley, who has been cut off from the family money.

That’s kind of a weird setup, isn’t it, but I was so going with it.  I wanted to love this.  My preferred type of historical romance is a lighthearted, never-takes-itself-too-seriously story, but this was just too unbelievable to me.  Some many aspects were just silly and not something I could believe would ever happen.

If I had even some connection to Charlie or Daisy I wouldn’t have cared about the silliness of If You Give a Girl a Viscount, but it just wasn’t so.  I liked Daisy and Charlie; they are nice people.  But I also didn’t care that much what happened to them.  The romance was so-so, and there weren’t any swoons for me.

If You Give a Girl a Viscount is just a meh book.  I don't dislike it by any means, but I don't really like it either.  Having no connection towards the characters really hindered this book for me.  But even though this book didn't do it for me, I still adore historical romance.  Tomorrow my first Historical Romance 101 post will be up!  I'm so excited for this event, and I hope you are too!
