3. "You receive back what you project."

4. "You cannot change people. Only God can."

It's your choice. "Happiness is a choice."

So far I like this. Have been reading little by little and it actually has helped with the stressful things that can happen during the day.
My review is me writing key points that I want to remember later on when I come back to this.
Ch 1: "Happiness is something you decide ahead of time." "Abraham Lincoln once said, " most people are as happy as they have DECIDED to be".
statistics : There are more heart attacks on Monday's than any other day of the week because people have decided Monday is a stressful day.
Tell yourself, " I will not allow anyone to steal my joy today. I will not allow disappointments and setbacks to discourage me. I will not focus on my problems and mistakes. I've made up my mind to enjoy this day."
CH 2: We can't control our circumstances, but we can control our reactions.
When you allow what someone says or does to upset you, you're allowing that person to control you.
Matthew 5:5 NIV blessed are the meek (strong), for they will inherit the earth.
2 Timothy 4:5 be calm cool and steady. (don't give away your power. Keep your strength under control)
*many people are like garbage tucks. They run around full of garbage, full of frustration, full of anger, and full of disappointment. As their garbage piles up, they look for s place to dump it. And if you let them, they'll dump it on you.*
CH 3: smiling tricks the body into feeling good.
When things a difficult, smile by faith. Smile, and the feelings to support the smile will catch up.
CH 4: psalm 37:23the steps of s good man a ordered by the Lord. (as long as you have faith you are where you are supposed to be).
God uses difficult people like sandpaper, to rub the rough edges off us.
Wherever you are God has put you there for a reason.
CH 6: if you are not careful, you will lose sight of all the good things God has done for you. Don't take for granted the family, friends, and opportunities He has blessed you with.

There are spiritual awareness reads and then there is Joel Osteen. Out of all the books I’ve read and reviewed, over the years, I cannot seem to get enough of the awesome messages he sends to his readers. Everyday a Friday assisted me with refocusing on my current situation. Often, we feel that in life that we are not in a “good place.” Some of us start to feel as if we have failed in life due to not achieving personal lifelong goals. Completing this book was the affirmation I needed for this year of 2014.

I am now on a daily mission to identify “a positive” attribute from the entire parameter of my being. I am learning to be happy during both the sweet and sour days of my time here on earth. The people who are in my life are the ones who are supposed to be there. Individuals who are not have simply served their purpose in my life and have moved on. In regards to jealous hearted individuals, one of my favorite sections of this book comes from chapter twenty-seven. Osteen’s words are listed as follows, “When they come at you, simply say, in a humble way “I’m wearing this blessing well, despite criticism and jealously.” If my friends aren’t happy for my blessing then, it’s time to find new friends who will celebrate with me as I celebrate with them.”

In life one will eventually seek for a sign or message of hope from either a self-help or spiritual read. The words enclosed within this book were just what I needed to let me know that I’m on the right path. Joel Osteen books rock!

This book, like all of Joel's others is always a great pick-me-upper.

Like his other books, Joel shares personal experiences and practical advise. Much of the information we have heard before, but reviewing it over and over helps us to make positive changes for ourselves.

I personally need to tone down some of the Godliness because it is sometimes too much for me. However, after searching for my spiritual guide, the closest thing I've found that I can relate to is Joel Osteen.

I attended one of his concerts/meetings and got to observe his entire family. Really down to earth and talented people.

Joel has been called out for smiling all the time, but that is just how he really is. I can't believe somebody would complain about that.

I do admit that using some of Joel's techniques is really actually kind of fun. Putting the spin on someone's "put down" or "complaining" actually gives me a little "buzz." Or, I guess I could say I feel positive and know I have not given away my power.

On several occasions I have had friends who were a little down or going through some tough transitions. I recommended Joel's books and everyone thanked me for doing so. He is my "go-to-guy" when I need an attitude adjusment.

Keep smiling Joel!

I love Joel Osteen's writing style. His message is laced with positivity. Not only does he preach it but he writes it in a very uplifting manner. Though some of his examples were repeated from his previous books. It's an excellent book for a boost of one's morale.

I'd like to preface this by saying that I like Joel Osteen. He's happy, he's upbeat, he's friendly, and he seems genuinely... Well, genuine! I'm not a hater by any stretch of the imagination. I am a born again, Bible believing, Baptist. I am a preacher of the gospel of Jesus Christ and wanted to have a front-seat opinion of this fellow for myself. Having never seen him on television, his books are the best way for me to get to know what he believes, what he teaches, and what he emphasizes.

My sole purpose in reading this book was to find out about the man. The book was quite engaging, but it's important to know the man behind the pages when your read a book like this. He uses quite a few personal illustrations and this book helped me to get acquainted with him and his ministry.

Firstly, Mr. Osteen is:

1. Funny!

- His humor is actually quite witty! Sarcasm is so 2007.

2. Caring

3. Engaging

- His STYLE (not content) reminded me of one of my favorite preachers ever - Curtis Hutson. He had an anecdote, illustration, or funny story for every point he made. I'll never forget to "keep a bottle of Windex handy" and several other things because he drove the point home so well!

Secondly, Mr Osteen is NOT:

1. A gospel preacher

- I did not one time in the entire book hear Mr. Osteen share the gospel of Jesus Christ. Bear in mind what God's Word says in I Cor. 15:1-4, that the gospel of God is the death, burial, and resurrection of Jesus Christ. I was disappointed to think that a man with a ministry to millions of people around the world would think so little of the gospel that could save their souls. I'm not saying that Joel doesn't believe the gospel. I DON'T KNOW! He never said one way or the other.

2. A Bible Expositor

- On the few occasions that Mr. Osteen expounded the Scriptures, there were blatant errors in his belief system. I mean, you don't have to be a Bible scholar to understand that "In his presence is fulness of joy" means that in God's presence there is fulness of joy! Not, "When you're happy, God will be near to you." or, "Sometimes you just have to fake it until you make it." Joy doesn't bring us into God's presence, God's presence brings us joy. There were several times the Bible was just twisted and used to make a point. That ought never to be. We must study God's Word to find out what He wants to say to us, not use His Word to fit "the way I feel things ought to be!"

3. Doctrinally sound

- I would like to say one thing on this point. After the entire book, I have no idea what he believes on the person of Jesus Christ. Our Lord Jesus Christ was only mentioned when there was a story to be told that applied to some particular topic. I also listened intently for phrases like "The Lord Jesus Christ", or "The Lord Jesus", or anything that would show Mr. Osteen's submission to Jesus as God or Saviour. Nothing like that ever came from his mouth. Whenever someone makes a small deal of Jesus Christ, they have a big problem. I think it would have been nice to know how he feels about the one who will one day judge his eternal soul, but it never came up. I guess maybe Jesus is an example to him, but that's about it.

Here's my other bookend to this review. I honestly knew NOTHING about this man when I picked up the book. When I put it down, I felt like I knew him pretty well.

Believe me, I have NO ax to grind with this guy, it just seems like Jesus Christ is not the main thing he's got going on.

For a guy that calls himself and evangelical preacher / pastor / teacher, that's not a good thing!

Once you begin Joel Osteen's Every Day a Friday, your outlook on life changes.

I received this book for review from the publisher,  read a few pages, then immediately got my journal to scribble down some notes and lines.

You see the difference in one letter:  I've got to vs. I get to.   Think about it:  "I've got to clean house, ugh"   vs.  "I get to clean house, I have a home to clean."    Brought this up in Sunday School last Sunday when we were talking about attitudes.

Couple times recently in an argument with my hubby, I said (thank you, Pastor Osteen), "You aren't going to steal my joy."  That takes him aback. (wink)

Even though Osteen repeats himself  throughout the book,  his enthusiasm is contagious.  If only more grumpy people would pick up a copy, how different our world would be!

I’d heard about Joel Osteen, but after the TV preacher debacles of the 80s, I relegated all these holy men to the shysters pile. Then early one Sunday morning, having slept very little thus unable to do more than flip through channels while sipping coffee, I came across Mr. Osteen and decided to listen. As my friend Regina says, damn him and his goofy smile, you want to hate his perfect life, but you just can’t. His smile is infectious, his attitude uplifting and you want to believe, like a religious Tony Robbins, Joel makes you believe.

So I decided to try him out in small doses and this book was the perfect antidote to some rather stressful days. It also provided motivation for days when I just wasn’t feeling it. Each day begins with a scripture reading, follows with an illustrative story and ends with a prayer all relating to one idea. At times the themes felt repetitive, but it never felt ‘preachy’ and I really appreciated Mr. Osteen’s every man approach. He ministers in a light-hearted way, as someone brought up in the Catholic tradition of guilt and a punishing God, it’s revelatory to think of God as someone in my corner, cheering me on and wanting for me all that I wish for myself. I don’t think this translates to a prosperity gospel as some accuse, but rather a way to see yourself as blessed. Why wouldn’t God want us to have healthy relationships, good health and the means to accomplish our dreams?

I opted for the audio version and I think this works better in book format, something I could pick up each day and start on a positive note. Instead, I ended up listening to several days’ worth of Fridays because audio books are not part of my daily repertoire and I think this should be used as a daily devotional. As such, I’m going to pick up I Declare, another Osteen book for the one-a-day habit, and continue to fill my life with positive energy.

I have often seen Joel Osteen on tv while I was flipping channels but never really watched a sermon or listened to him speak. So in reading his book "Every Day A Friday" I wondered just what ideas he might share and what his teaching style might be. Well in this book his idea is that happiness is a choice is spot on. Statistics say that most people are happier on Friday because they are looking forward to the weekend, and in this book Mr. Osteen reminds us that we should look at every day as a gift from God and stop thinking so much about the negative and instead focus on the many positives in our life.

I really enjoyed the way Mr. Osteen shares his message in this book. Instead of "preaching" to us he instead encourages and teaches us how we have the power within ourselves to change. A positive message that is perfect for anyone who needs a bit of encouragement. This book is a quick easy read, that I have actually read twice this year. Filled with plenty of uplifting stories that can help anyone turn their frowns upside down making them smiles instead. A great gift that would be perfect for anyone needing a little encouragement.

A complimentary copy of this book was provided by the publisher in exchange for an honest review, and I can honestly say I am purchasing a few of these books for friends this Christmas.

I've watched Joel Osteen every now and again, so picked up this book from the "New" shelves at the library.

Never heard of Joel Osteen? He preaches to a huge congregation in Houston and millions worldwide. He was even one of Barbara Walters' 10 most fascinating people about five years ago. Anyway, Osteen's message is God loves us and wants us to be happy and prosper. Osteen explains the title and the underlying basis of the book as: Friday is the day of the week on which people are happiest and we can live with similar happiness and expectation every single day of the week. The premise that happiness is a choice is emphasized throughout the book, as it is in most of Osteen's preaching. He delivers the basic principle that by changing our outlook we can live happier and, ultimately, enjoy God's blessings.

A friend was surprised I would read "a televanglist's book", but I say one can apply the lessons secularly (although Joel Osteen would hardly agree.) It's hard to beat his optimism, enthusiasm and his intention to get readers to reorient their thinking to be positive.

My suggestion, however, would be to pick up the audio book so you can hear him deliver these lessons. His voice infuses the message with even more strength and conviction.

I have been struggling with depression for a few years and have found that his books help me have a more positive outlook on life. They are written for those who share a religious faith in God and Jesus Christ.
There are scriptures throughout the book.
My one complaint about the book is the redundancy of stories and lessons from his other books. There are several stories that have been repeated. If you haven't read his other books it doesn't matter. Or if you are like me and probably need to keep re-enforcing what you have learned in the past, it is acceptable.
There are many new thought provoking stories in the book as well, some of which had me in tears. Joel Osteen's humor and personality come through strongly, so it is a pleasant and smooth read.
I read a library copy of this book, but I am considering purchasing it so that I can re-read it often.

In Every Day A Friday, Joel Osteen has seen that most people become happy and joyful on Fridays. But throughout the week we are counting down the days to happiness on Friday. The book is based off a study that has found that happiness increased 10 percent more on Fridays. We tend to be waiting to be happy for the weekend and we are missing out on the rest of the days of the week. We are supposed to enjoy our lives every single day. A significant key we must realize is we don’t have to give away our power to the economy, rude bosses or customers, traffic, and any other circumstances that are beyond our control. We must change our perceptive and focus on the positive and not dwell on the negative. A kind encouraging word can break down the wall barriers around our heart. Osteen believes in reaching out to the hurting and loving them into they are whole again! A kind word can heal souls!

The book is divided into seven important parts:
-Don’t Give Away Your Power
-Know What to Ignore
-Live Without Crutches
-Travel Light
-Laugh Often
-Be a Dream Releaser
-Celebrate Yourself

My favorite stories that changed my life were the story about trying to drive a SUV at the Indianapolis race track. You have to run the race the way God created you to be! The second story that spoke to me was a kid named Joey that was trying to copy everyone else and all he had to be was stop and be himself. I won’t post the stories because they are so good you need to read them for yourself. They will help you realize that God loves you just the way you are. He chose you!

One of my favorite quotes is:
“Our churches should not be museums to display perfect people. They should be hospitals to help the hurting and the lonely” (186).

I would recommend this book to teenagers and adults who aren’t enjoying every day that God has blessed them with. Each day is a brand new day and has a gift just wanting to be treasured and enjoyed from our Creator. I would also recommend this book to anyone who is lacking Faith in tough times and is failing in the battlefield for their minds. Joel Osteen has shown me that I have to have Faith and speak out positive words to encourage me when no one else is around to. I must speak truth into other people’s lives in order that they will be built up. We spend way too much time tearing others down. We have the power to help others achieve their God given dreams. But we can also choose to break their dreams! It comes down to a choice and a decision. Osteen has taught me to unpack my baggage from my past and let the hurts and offenses go once and for all! It will only keep me from living my destiny and becoming everything I could be! The mind is where we must win the battle in order to succeed in our lives. I will become a positive person! I have God’s favor over my life! I can enjoy every single day! The Lord loves me! I am wonderfully made!

Joel Osteen has written the most life changing book that everyone needs to get and read again and again. I want to get the words of truth into my mind where they will come out my mouth. The principles he is teaching readers in this book will assist you into becoming everything God has created you to be. I feel much happier after reading this book. I am even starting to speak about God’s favor more boldly and openly. God can help me accomplish every dream that is in my heart and he will receive the glory. I am making a decision to not give away my power to my problems God is way bigger than them! Joel Osteen has spoken the words of encouragement that I needed to hear to keep believing and to keep the Faith! My mind might be the toxic battlefield but God has the solution to help me to think more positively. If you need encouragement and need help to become happier you need to immensely read this book. But make sure you take the words inside your heart and take action to speaking God’s truth.

I will treasure each day from now on and enjoy the gift I have been given. Every day is meant to be celebrated like its Friday! It is so imperative that we live each day trying to be a blessing to someone else. We have the influence with God’s help to touch someone else and speak the words of truth into them.

I like Joel Osteen. He gives practical advice with a God tilt. Every Day a Friday: How to Be Happier 7 Days a Week was really good. The stories and examples he gave with his 26 tenets were heartwarming and uplifting. I am a morose sort of melacholy person. But every time I read Osteen or see him on TV, I automatically feel better.

What I liked about Friday is while Osteen encourages a reliance on God, he still promotes independence. God can't do it all for you. You have to get up and try. For someone who is a semi lapsed Roman Catholic who is both an agnostic and an atheist, this makes sense in my mind, I like the promotion of being self sufficient.

Osteen also emphasizes soft religion. I took it as that God realizes that there are gray areas and how you deal with them is ultimately is how God will deal with you. This opposes hard religion where there is the definite separation between black and white, good and evil. There is no leeway.

I did enjoy the Shay, Denzel Washington, John Maxwell, and Billy Graham stories.

I love Joel Osteen. Sometimes when I hear his sermons on TV, it helps with whatever I'm dealing with at the time. He makes me happy. Most of all, he makes me hopeful.

I have dealt with depression all of my life. In the past I thought that God and the Bible were not giving me enough answers. I thought that there had to be more answers out there. I turned to another religion (I won't mention its name, just look at some of my book reviews from 2009 to find out), but all along, God was knocking at the door to my heart. Joel Osteen was an answered prayer for me.

Like his other books, Pastor Osteen draws on his own experiences, those of others, and the Bible to help teach ways to be happy and live a more fulfilling, spritual life. This book is both well-written, relateable and above all honest. I think anyone who reads it will get something positive out of it. It might even change your life.

The most positive book I ever laid my hands on! Every turn of the page gives you a dose of happiness and positivity!

If you have been feeling down, or if you just need to remind yourself , how happy you can be with what you already have or if your current circumstances are at its worst, all you need to do is to read a page from this wonderful book. Your entire perspective on life will change, you will complain less, you will be happier and hopeful. If you are someone going through depression or if you feel as if this world has nothing to offer you anymore, read a chapter from this book and you will view this world with a clean window .

This books uses phrases from bible scriptures, and stories from Joel's own life, using characters he has encountered to help us to understand his point. The references to practical examples helped me to remember many things he says. Some of his real life stories are hilarious to be honest.

Out of the many Bible scriptures , my favorite and the one that really resonated with me was "To the pure, all things are pure". (Titus 1:15 NIV) which translates to, see everything in a positive light. Just read this book and you will see how he beautifully helps us to remove our own critical spirit using this one bible phrase.

One of his real life stories that I loved was a story between a teacher and a moody and difficult student. When teacher , went back and looked at his previous student reports, she found out , his mother has passed away and father has no interest in him. Looking into where he come from , and struggles he faced helped the teacher deal with the student with love than being critical. Likewise this book helped me to see that many people act like they do, they may be coming from a different background, maybe they come from a dysfunctional family , maybe they are going through a difficult time in their lives, so instead of judging them , either we mind our own business or help them to come out of their struggles by showing love.

To put my review in summary, as I reached the end of this book, I remembered to wear my own blessings well without any guilt.

I am sooooo not into this type of book. BUT my best friend wants me to read it so I said I would give it a try. So far, not bad! I do like his advice and he isnt shoving religion at me. I will keep on, and also try to do some of the things he says. Its basically about how to be happier with what you have.

OK finished the book. I thought it was pretty good. Good advice and not a ton of religion, for those who arent religious. I dont like reading a self help book where they reference back to bible scripture every other paragraph, but he doesnt do this. I found a ton of good advice and little tricks to help me feel more positive about life on an every day basis. I really liked his little stories he told, also. My only complaint is that there is nothing challenging about his writing style, no big words, that kind of thing. Not that I expected it. I assume he is writing to reach a very broad audience, so I let it go. I could almost picture him talking as I read his words, giving a sermon, even though I've never listened to him. He seemed very genuine and the book was very helpful. :) This has actually made me curious to tune in to one of his sermons. :)

EVERY DAY A FRIDAY:HOW TO BE HAPPIER 7 DAYS A WEEK by Joel Osteen is an interesting Christian Life resource book. It is written with insight into ways to living a happy and meaningful life.He has research that shows people are happiest on Fridays. He also shows readers how to live a happier, fuller life everyday and not just on Fridays. He offers encouragement, spiritual guidance, and practical advise. This author is a great motivational speaker. He encourages us not to judge but to be a source of understanding support to others. A good resource, educational tool but by no means replaces the Bible and its teachings. We all need encouragement and support. It is your choice to be happy, laugh often, have a victorious and properous life. This book was received for review from the publisher. We read this book as part of my adult Sunday school class and it created many good discussions. I really like the concept that Mr. Osteen presents in this book. The world would truly be a better place if we could all be friendlier, happier people, and I do believe that a relationship with Jesus Christ can bring that joy. The issues I have is that in several chapters Mr. Osteen seems to put forth an idea that good things happen to good people, and if there is negative things going on, then you brought them on yourself. It is the concept that if you are a good Christian then God will shield you from bad things and bless you with good things. Jesus never promised us an easy life here on earth; He promised us everlasting life with Him after we leave this place. Other than that, I did enjoy the book and as I said previously, we could all benefit by focusing on being happier, friendlier people.

Omg Joel Osteen' Every Day A Friday was written in such a way that will pull people who are in the darkest place of their life. This book just gets into what can happen and does happen to all of us when tragedy, hardship and disappointment strike. We have all gone to that place of self doubt, criticism, judgement, being judged, disappointed and confusion. If there was ever a book i would recommend to read this one is it. Its not so much self help as it is logic and reality. He points out facts of life that can easily be forgotten when your thoughts are going elsewhere. This book can guide anyone to get back into or remain in the right state of mind.

As with nearly all of Joel Osteen's books, this one brimmed with humor, self-deprecating stories and positive speaking. I really enjoyed the stories and the sentiments he gave. The book was an easy read and filled with things that should be common sense but somehow aren't. It's kind of like stopping to smell the roses - everyone hears about it, but how many people actually do it? Great book with a wonderfully uplifting and not too preachy message.

This book is a treasure! I enjoyed it so much I want to buy a copy so that I can reread it often. The stories, thoughts, and anecdotes are inspiring, thought-provoking and comforting. I can highly recommend this book. The principles that Osteen discusses can help anyone--regardless of their religious, cultural, or social background--experience greater happiness.

Joel has a way of putting a ray of sunshine into every aspect of our lives, how to live a simpler more abundant life. How to treat others and getting the same treatment in return, not always but it is our attitude that can change someone elses life! Outstanding book! I recommend it to anyone that wants to be happier and live a fullfilling life!
