Tales of a Sixth-Grade Muppet #3

The Good, the Bad, and the Fuzzy

Rate this book
Ever since transforming into a Muppet, Danvers Blickensderfer's life has gone a little bonkers. Not only does he have a cool fuzzy nose and flip-top mouth, he's also the right-hand man to his hero, The Great Gonzo. To top it off, he's singing boy band hits with the coolest guy in school, Kip Strummer. Yes siree, life is sweet . . . that is, until a new kid strolls into town. Armed with snarky attitude, snappy one-liners, and a killer bowler hat, this conniving comic is soon stealing the spotlight and turning Danvers into the laughing stock of the school.

It's a clash of the class clowns as Danvers enlists the help of master Muppet yukmeisters Fozzie Bear, Pepe, and Rowlf in his quest to be the sixth-grade king of comedy.

Meanwhile, evil little sis, Chloe, is getting her own musical number at Kermit's theater and, for Miss Piggy, this means one thing: War!

Let the battles begin!

Muppets, cannons, boy bands and Sam the Eagle. If you've made it this far....you're in. Lots of puns and muppet style humor. Good clean fun.

When I first encountered this series randomly in a library book store, I was utterly charmed. It featured so many positive attributes, solid jacket-less hardcover, illustrated diary format, and Muppety to the max. What's not to like? As the series progressed, the storylines lost focus and I found myself skimming. I thought it was a spectacular premise of a preteen boy turning into a Muppet and befriending the fuzzy folks of the Jim Henson company. The fun journal format was similar to the Wimpy Kid series and makes it easy to enjoy for reluctant readers. I honestly should have stopped after the first book, but I had hopped for it to remain consistent. I had a smashing time with this series and I'm glad I found it serendipitously last year. Now all I wanna do is find an internship at the Muppet Theater just like Danvers.

The first pages of this book begin with a recap of the previous two books; this was extremely helpful in filling me in on our main character, Danvers Blickensderfer, who, in previous books, transformed into a Muppet. This muppetmorphisis, as it were, caused Danvers to become friends with other famous Muppets such as: Gonzo, Kermit, and Miss Piggy. Danvers also is in a band with some of his friends called M.E.S.S. After putting out a hit single about acne cream, Girl Don’t be Rash, he, his band, and his Muppet friends, decide to make a low budget musical movie at the appropriately named, Camp Pain.
Overall I found this book quite zany, but with some easy to notice plot holes. Even so, I think it a good read for a younger audience, that also enjoys Diary of a Wimpy Kid.

Reading this series is getting me psyched for the upcoming release of Muppets Most Wanted. Unfortunately, this book ended with a cliffhanger, and the library doesn't have the fourth and final book of the series. AHH! Now I have to wait to find out what happens!
