Desperate to escape the icy grip of the city, Jane Dove leads her family through the treacherous terrain, driven by the hope of finding safety and warmth in a small, remote cabin outside Aspen, Colorado. With only their horses and sheer determination as their guide, they embark on a perilous journey that will test their resilience and bond like never before.
This book is a little too sappy for my tastes, but for the most part, the story is interesting. An EMP is a terrible event. It will bring out the best in many people, but it also will bring out the worst in others. This story starts with a writers retreat, and ends with two of the writers meeting again later. In between, there is a plane crash, attacks by not-so-good people, an attack by a wildcat, people helping others, a horse giving birth, etc. Enjoy. Finished 5/6/23.
I liked this book because there wasn't as much violence as others. Almost kind of sad, with the ending, I thought, or at least part of it. Need to read it yourself and decide!
I liked the fact that the author didn't spend a lot of time describing all of the things that created havoc, just enough so the reader gets it. This author went directly to the people story, which I appreciate.
Jane Dove was an author on retreat when an EMP shut down Our country. Jane started walking home and on her journey many dangerous events happen. On her walk home she meets Patrick which is a very good thing. Together they survive.
This combination is one of my go to in this genre. They write more 'cozy' post apoclypse and concentrate on the people rather than the actual cause of the issue. While listening I was thinking how is the first bit going to relate to the last bit. Also thought about Jane's rebellion and what changed to make her love the place so much.
