Full Count: Top 10 Lists of Everything in Baseball by Sports Illustrated Kids will be a welcome addition to any baseball fan's book shelf. The book is a large, coffee table size edition filled with informative and fun statistics, such as the top ten leadoff hitters, unbreakable records, little guys, hit robbers, nicknames, hardest throwers, rivalries, single game performances, toughest pitchers, World Series moments, most intimidating, managers, double play combos, families, minor league team names, switch-hitters, baseball movies, speedsters, Yogi-isms, facial hair, future Hall of Famers, scandals, southpaws, caps, legendary home runs, history making baseballs, announcers, backstops, innovations, oddest deliveries, ballparks, mascots, sluggers, lineups, ugly uniforms, closers. There are action photos of the baseball players, and an accompanying explanation of why a particular player, situation, or event received a top ten rating. Baseball fans young and old will enjoy perusing the many facts and wonderful accompanying photos. Another interesting touch is that under the player's name is the number of years he was in the big leagues, and the position played, which is helpful for fans who recognize names but necessarily don't know what position that person played or during what years. A handsome, well researched and written book to enrich the baseball fans's knowledge of the game in a most entertaining format.

Have you ever had that moment where you walk in to the library and there on the book shelf is a book that makes you gasp? You look at this book and think this book may be the book of your dreams! You run over and snag it off the shelf before anybody else has the opportunity to steal it away from you. If this has happened to you then you know how I was feeling when I came across Full Count: Top 10 lists of everything in baseball.

Fun Fact about me: I love a top 10 list. I am also an avid baseball fan. This book is a match made in heaven for me. There is a wide variety of exciting topics and a little bit of something for everyone in this fantastic book. There are lots of stats (who was the shortest baseball player ever?) for the kid who needs everything to be proven. There are also whimsical moments (who has the best facial hair in baseball?) for the people who like a little bit of a laugh.
This oversized book with its very attractive design will be a big hit with all kinds of baseball lovers. It’s a great book to just sit down and causally flip through, or make a night of it and read cover to cover. It could also cause quite a few debates in your household. Not everybody agrees on who is the greatest mascot (Mr. Red didn’t make the list! How dare they?)

Well, I love this book. It is a whole book of "Top Tens" for baseball facts. Anything from the shortest players to the best 10 nicknames or 10 baseball families (as in family members that played the game) is in here. I know loads of kids (and teens and adults) who will love looking at and reading this book. Then they will most likely give their opinion about the Top 10 Future Hall of Famers. There are loads of photographs (I love the one of the strangest pitcher wind-ups). Seriously, this is a book that will be looked at over and over again in any baseball fan's home.

Oversized and attractively designed, promising the top 10 lists of EVERYTHING in baseball, this one won't sit on the shelf for long. The writers don't explain how they determined the top ten of the categories. Some are easily understood and calculable, but others, such as the best baseball caps or mascots might be a matter of opinion. Each entry has a short description of the player or situation and makes for interesting reading even if one isn't a die-hard fan of the sport. It's packed with photographs both full-color and black and white.

The theme of this book is the top ten best and worst of baseball. One example of the theme is the top ten southpaws, or left-handed pitchers. Another example of the theme is the top ten intimidators, or the players that have been the most intimidating. One example of symbolism is that things that don't always have to be good, or people don't always have to be big to be on a top ten list. People should read this book because it shows readers the top ten best and worst things in the history of baseball.

Even non-baseball fans will enjoy leafing through these top 10 lists from baseball history. My personal favorites were the top 10 worst uniforms and the top 10 most unusual pitching stances. There is a lot of information in these pages - and my only disappointment was that there wasn't a list of references or recommended readings or links for websites. There are many photographs and illustrations in addition to the lists. A well-done non-fiction book.
