"Daddy, Daddy, Be there. Let me sit with you, Let me hold your spotted hand. Let my eyes be yours, and my ears as well. I will remember when you were there for me And asked for nothing in return. Now i am here for you. Daddy, Daddy, I love you."
It captures many emotions and roles of fathers, but gets a little confusing by tackling so much. It's so broad that it seems like it doesn't fit anyone. It talks about the sweet moments of childhood and then fights, divorce, alcoholism. It speaks of growing older and the father as an old man.
I think this book is more for fathers to read, not children. And should it be read when their kids are younger to know what the children are needing? or as a thank you when they're adults? I'm not so sure.
Daddy, Daddy, Be There is a novel written by Candy Dawson Boyd. I would say that this book falls into the poetry genre due to how the author formatted each page. Each page discusses the importance of fathers by starting with Daddy, Daddy, be there and ending with Daddy, Daddy, be there. The book covers different roles that father's have throughout a child's birth until they are grown. The book would be relatable to kids with fathers as well as kids whose fathers are absent by being that child's voice and expressing their need for a father figure. The author definitely enhanced the role of the father throughout the story and represented genuine father figures. The pictures were relatable to the story and showed different fathers on each page.
Interesting book about the influence that fathers play in the lives of children and the many roles they face. I like how the book took a multifaceted look at fatherhood and showed how all fathers can be different, but show love in different ways. It also delved into why some "daddys" may not get along with their wives and have trouble. Overall, the book does a good job of accomplishing its desired goals, but it may be difficult to use in the classroom.
This book would be difficult to read to younger ages. I could see this used to introduce a writing lesson to an older aged audience to write about their favorite memory with their dad or father figure.
Children make a wish list for their fathers, revealing the important relationships between them and their daddies in all their joy, vulnerability and possibility.
