Every now and then a person comes across a book and a story that makes you step back, take a deep breath, and really appreciate the fine art of the pen, the power of imagination, and grit or reality. In the age of the blockbuster mega story where the reader's only choices are to enter into a world of extreme fantasy or the bitter pill of reality, Convergence 2012 is very intriguing story that manages to blur the line between fantasy/fiction and reality without giving a preference to either side.
When I first picked up the book, everything in my conscious mind from the cover of the book to the brief description of the story told me that this was perhaps a really intriguing fictional story (and it is), however, while reading Convergence 2012, I found myself unconsciously being pulled into situations that could be very real for some people.

The characters Tim, Joy, Kuthanage, Richard, and Xanari are REALLY flawed characters with issues that you can find in any relative, friend, enemy or lover, at the same time the story reveals just enough at appropriate times to let the reader know that the main characters have that “unexplainable something” that could transform and transcend them into something great and good or something very evil. This is not a “packaged” story. There are mysteries unexplained, the language is raw and makes the characters seem very real, then you are dealing with the Draconians and their agenda.

It’s a perfect balance between the analytical left brain and spiritual right brain, each side informing and working with each other in the story! The characters are truly alive facing unknowing possibility or death! I truly appreciate that special talent and artistic skill the author Robert Ricks brings to this story and it’s really special watching a new author develop! Can’t wait for the next chapter in this story!

I won this book in a "giveaway" on Goodreads and finished it in short order. Kuthanaga, Xanari, Reshnogga, Annukai and more....with names like that, it took a while to get used to but Mr. Ricks keeps them in a running commentary and you quickly get up to speed as to who is who. The imaginative tale adds a twist to the recent plethora of 2012 fear-mongering and it was rather nice to have a bit of a different approach to "our" demise. The human heroes (with much easier pronunciation), Tim and Joy, are both losers and winners and the one thing I wish Mr. Ricks had added was a bit more flashback and stories of their drugs and violence years. It would probably have made their eventual "winner" status a bit more substantial. It would also have added insight as to why Kuthanaga chose them. I liked the idea of the being "marked" concept. And the constant changing of how and who was being marked worked in parallel with the changes that were rapidly occurring all over the world. I want to again thank Mr. Ricks for the opportunity to read his story and also...thanks for the cool bookmarks!!

Convergence 2012 by Robert R Ricks

This book is a Sci-Fi Fantacy novel. It begins in 2011 and works its way thru the end of 2012. The characters are well written and even though it takes place on earth, there is alot of mystical type stuff going on.

I found this novel hard to put down. I was constantly wanting to know what was coming next. It was unpredictable and very enjoyable. I recommend this book highly and I hope that Robert R Ricks comes out with the next book soon. I can't wait.

PS: I love the bookmarks...Thank you

Very good book, hard to put down. I started looking at people around me and wondering are they what they seem to be? Read the story and see if you don't wonder if some of the powerful people around us are human or not. I swear the Drakes might be running the tea party. (My opinion not the authors)
Check out this book.

*disclaimer I read the ebook version. I couldn't locate that one on Goodreads until I had already reviewed this one*

When I first heard about this book through the Goodreads giveaways, the premise sounded quite intriguing. The description in that giveaway was quite attention grabbing. If only the story was the same. Unfortunately that was not the case.

My first problem with the story was the inordinate amount of spelling/grammar errors. The mistakes weren't limited to one type either. There were homonym mistakes (to instead of too, damn instead of dam);there were missing words in sentences. There were correctly spelled words (though they were not the words meant to be used). I also noticed a couple of times where words seemed to be out of order. All of this made reading the story to be too much work. I do not know if an editor was used. To me it appeared as if most of the errors were something that would be missed by a computer's spell checker. I would suggest the author find someone to edit future stories or, if he already has one, then perhaps find a different one?

Another big thing for me was the overuse of certain words, mainly character names. There was one paragraph that stood out in particular in which one character's name was used about a dozen times. Instead of helping to eliminate confusion between characters, it only aggravated me.

As for the story itself, I found it really difficult to make a connection with any of the characters. The story felt really bland. In fact, several times I felt like I was reading a news report rather than a story. It got to the point where I really didn't care what happened to any of the characters. Towards the very end the story got a tiny bit better, but by that time it was too late.

The author seemed to have tried to explain too much with the story. There was magic, aliens, mythical creatures, history, Armageddon, etc. Yet, he also left so much unexplained. It's hard to describe. I also felt that one of the final confrontations had a magical (by this I mean something that really had no explanation from the story before, like a knight finding an M-60 to escape certain death) solution.

I received this book as a goodreads giveaway. The book takes the view that December 21, 2012, will be when the Earth awakens from sleep and the demensions that have separated from the crust will return. The Annukai live on a demension currently not on the crust. The Drakonians (Dragons) live on the crust. The Quinuks leave in hiding. The Guardians of the Earth watch and protect Mother Earth. The story line describes the return of select Annukai to the crust to try and save a select number of humans from the coming convergence. The Drakonians are not interested in saving the humans. The Quinuk are only interested in science and learning. The two main characters, Kuthanaga, an Annukai, and Zygriel, a Drakonian, are at odds with each other and have been for hundreds of years. Into this setting are introduced two humans, Tim Christenson, and his girlfriend, Joy. A good read with undertones of social commentary if you are into that aspect. I enjoyed it just for the pleasure of reading it.

I would have given this book 4 stars for the story but unfortunately there were some grammatical errors and typos.
