Book 1 in the Primitive Series PRIMITIVE FIX – Meet two brothers, tiger shifters, and the women who bring out the beast in them. Part 1 - Kenyon Sage Villalobos has been destined to marry Kenyon Maddux since the day she was born. As the second-born in her wolf clan, she came into this world owing a debt to the family of shape-shifting tigers who rule the Louisiana swamps in the Atchafalaya Basin. Kenyon is the only man she’s ever wanted, the man who sets her blood on fire, but she’s tired of being indebted to his family for something she didn’t do. She wants him to choose her because he loves her, not because he owns her. When Kenyon’s brother, Nik, is taken prisoner, Kenyon turns to Sage for help. Using her unique skills, she knows she can help him free his brother, but there will be a price. If she agrees to do this, she wants Kenyon to release her from her debt. However, the only thing Kenyon wants to do is hold on to her and never let her go. Part 2 - Nik After months of captivity as part of a roadside attraction, Nik Maddux is finally able to escape. Injured and at death’s door, he makes his way through the swamp only to collapse near Juliette’s home. Juliette pulls the naked man into her cabin and begins nursing him back to health, marveling at the black stripes which cover his body and the feline features of his face. She knows he’s not quite human and realizes she may have found a kindred spirit, someone whose secrets are as deadly as her own. When Nik awakes, his attraction to Juliette is instant. While she heals his body, he wants to heal her soul. But danger is lurking in the swamp, and the longer they stay together, the more likely they are to lose everything.
Kindle freebie 50% read 50% DNF Interesting take on the shifter story but a Tiger and a Wolf ? They can never have children but and placed/bonded together ? Really what sense does that make ? I couldn't get over that basic stumping point, my wee little brain kept saying WTH ? Then there was the mother issues, weird tattoo thing and the battle, that topped the cherry of meh-ville for me I read the first story and just didn't care enough about the brother to read his story. So I am moving on.
You ever get a book and think to yourself, “Oh boy! I can't wait to read it!”? Such was the case for me in this book.
Let's rewind just a small bit to bring you all up to speed.
I won this book from a Twitter Giveaway Contest. First I'd like to say I truly don't even know how I won it, because I cannot remember having even joined the Giveaway. I don't typically join a Giveaway unless it's a book that I really am interested in winning. So this took me severely by surprise, because like I said, I simply cannot remember having joined in. Nevertheless, I was excited about the fact that I won the book and was looking forward to receiving it and reading it.
SIDE NOTE 1: The author was extremely prompt in her delivery. That's commendable. So kudos.
I delved into the book and the first thing I noticed right off the bat was the poorly constructed cover. The next thing I noticed was the poor formatting. The top of the book, the place where you'd usually find the header, like the author name a book title, was cut off. Also at certain intervals there were blank pages. Another thing that could've used some polishing was the separation space between the chapter title and the text. It was too close.
From the first sentence, I instantly knew that this book was just another knock off in a long line of Shape Shifter books. The wanna-be Harlequin Romance.
SIDE NOTE 2: It did have some spicy erotica scenes. Truth be told however, they were written in an almost bland delivery. Like a cheesy porn flick to be honest. But, steamy nonetheless.
Here is the gist of the story line:
The main character is Kenyon a tiger and 2nd in the blood line. He needs to save his older Brother Nik also a tiger but 1st in the blood line. In the process of trying to save him he re-encounters his true love—a Wolf. Apparently they were destined to be together per some promise-slash-tradition-slash-ritual.
SIDE NOTE 3: Per the story, these unions could not produce children and were the only ones tied to this covenant. Any other brethren could live freely and marry freely except for the first in the bloodline which had to marry INTO the bloodline... or some such nonsense.
Sorry, but this made absolutely NO SENSE! How in the hell is a TIGER going to mate with a WOLF? I mean seriously, a dog and a cat? Pfff!
SIDE NOTE 4: The chick, is NOT JUST a wolf, but also a person to person shape shifter. Basically, imagine if you will Mystique from the X-men, only also a wolf.
Nik (brother number one) has lost his humanity and Kenyon (brother number two) feels like it's his job to save him and help him regain his humanity. Sage, the girl-slash-wolf-slash-mystique, feels it's her responsibility to help both families but really wants out.
Kenyon loves Sage, and Sage loves Kenyon, but they are both too stubborn to give in. Sound familiar? Yes. I'm sure it does as every single cheesy paranormal romance book I've ever read has this same premise.
In all truth I felt no connection to the characters, the plot or anything in this story for that matter. It felt to me as if the writing was dry and unemotional. Just a person telling what was going on from the outside.
The writing was good enough. There were every few, barely noticeable, editing mistakes.
Unfortunately, I just did not like this book.
I'm granting it 2 stars because the writing (spelling and grammar) was not terrible. Had it been any other way, it would've been 1 star.
Kenyon Maddux is the second born of the Maddux clan. Southern Louisiana has been his families home for generations. The Louisiana swamps provide a playground, and cover, for his kind...tiger shifters. When his brother Nik is captured by a road side truck stop, Kenyon must break Nik out or loose him to the tiger. Sage Villalobos is the second born of the Villalobos clan who happen to be wolf shifters. She and Kenyon have been promised to each other since birth and bound to each other since they were 16 years old. Both have feelings neither one want to admit and that has caused years of turmoil for Sage. Each time she leaves Louisiana, she is brought back by a Maddux family calamity and straight into Kenyon's bed. When the breakout attempt of Nik goes horrible wrong, the attempt sets into motion things Kenyon and Sage cannot image.
When Nik's brother breaks him out of captivity, Nik sets off for the Louisiana wilderness but is injured in the process. He finds himself in front of a warded cabin in the middle of the Louisiana swamp. Juliette is sees an injured man/animal just beyond her wards and notices he is badly injured. Her medical training kicks in and she drags him into the cabin. Juliette has her own secrets, which she is running from, and is afraid this man/animal has been sent to hurt her. As the man slowly emerges, Juliette realizes he is something unique, just like her. As Nik recovers, with Juliette's, help both realize they are falling in love with a complete stranger. When Juliette is kidnapped by her past, Nik is racing against the clock to find the love of his life and his mate.
Primitive Fix is actually two books in one. Part 1 is Kenyon and Sage's tale which starts with the rescue attempt of Nik. The rescue attempt sets the stage for Part 2 which is Nik's story. The author does a great job of making the reader feel the angst between Kenyon and Sage and Nik and Juliette. You fall in the love with the characters and can't help but root for them against the bad guys. Whether the bad guys are some psycho wanting to rule the world with soulless zombies or someone they call mother. You can't help be cheer the rebel in Kenyon and Nik. I can't wait for Book 2.
Sometimes our life has specific plans for us, and other times things happen when we least expect them to.
Kenyon and Sage have a past, a very steamy past. Sage is Kenyon’s in every way but the way she really wants to be, or so she thinks. Being destined to marry one another makes Kenyon and Sage believe that all their relationship is is a deal between their families. It isn’t until Sage rescues Kenyon from jail after trying to free his brother, do the sparks really fly between them.
I loved the chemistry between the two characters. It jumped right off the page and left me wanting more. When Sage offers to help Kenyon save his brother Nix, she asks him to set her free from her debt in return. When he agrees, Sage begins to think she made a mistake after seeing the hurt in Kenyon’s eyes. Will Kenyon and Sage parts ways when all is said and done or will their true feelings be too much for each other to handle?
Nix’s story picks up right where Kenyon’s story leaves off. After fleaing his brother and Sage, Nix is hurt badly and left for dead. It isn’t until Juliette finds him and heals him, that the story really gets interesting. As soon as Nix lays on Juliette he is hooked. There is an instant connection between the two of them, but they both have secrets. As danger lurks around them, there is a chance that these two lost souls might not get their happily ever after. This was my first shifter book and I have to say I was pleasantly surprised.
It wasn’t cheesy like I thought it was going to be. I enjoyed that the author decided to use different POV’s as well as different stories in general, all in one book.
I thought Kenyon and Sage’s story was hot. Then I read Nix and Juliette’s story. Sparks fly between both couples and I love that each couple had a different story to tell. If you aren’t sure about entering the paranormal/shifter genre, I highly recommend getting your feet wet with this book.
Primitive Fix (Primitive Series - Book 1)In the paranormal genre of books, shifters are one of my most favorite. This was really great. Book one revolves around 2 brothers who are tiger shifters, Kenyon and Nik Maddux. The book takes place in Louisiana. In Kenyon's story, the book starts with him rescuing his brother Nik, who was taken in his tiger form and being held in a cage. Helping him is his mate, Sage. The story centers around their relationship, their very hot sex scenes and all of the trouble involving his mom. I loved the background info Alicia gives us to understand their pack ways. Nik's story starts with him being found in the swamp by Juliette, after he ran off from being rescued. She brings him to her shack to help him heal from being wounded. Juliette also has a past, someone she is running and hiding from. When Nik awakens, there is an instant connection between the 2 of them and he eventually realizes she is his mate. The rest of his story centers around their hot sex scenes, learning to trust each other and dealing with the bad people that are after Juliette. There is so much that I am not saying in this review, as I don't want to give away any spoilers. There is trouble for both couples in each part that you just need to read the book, to see how their love grows and the obstacles they have to overcome. Their stories just drew me in. I hope to read more about these 2 couples in her upcoming books in this series, to see how they progress with their pack. If you like shifters, take a chance. I think you will like this one. I won this book in a contest and I am so glad I did, I have found a new author for me to get my fix of shifters.
Alicia Sparks' Primitive Fix is a perfectly written shape shifter story. This is the beginning of a new series about a family of tiger shifters in the bayous of Louisiana. Alicia begins this series by focusing on the two brothers – Kenyon and Nik, so we are treated to two books in one.
Her story begins with Part 1 – Kenyon. Kenyon is the second born and has already been mated to Sage, a wolf shifter. Although the couple can generate enough heat to start a fire, Sage is fighting the mating. She wants the mating to Kenyon to be because he loves her, not because of a promise or destiny.
Nik’s story, in Part 2 – picks up with Nik trying to recover from injuries sustained during captivity. Being unable to shift for a long period of time, has Nik trying to recapture his humanity as well. When he awakens, he finds that he has been taken in and doctored back to health by Juliette, a beautifully reclusive woman with deadly secrets of her own.
Paranormal shape shifters can be tricky. The reader has to be wooed and convinced that shifting is a separate world inside our own. Sometimes too much or too little detail on the why takes away from the story. Alicia Sparks is able to enchant the audience with her writing and creates a believable world. This is a fantastic start to her new Primitive series. My only complaint would be that it was too short – I wanted more – but it was definitely a 5-star read!
Primitive Fix (Primitive Series Book 1) by Alicia Sparks was given to me for an honest review. I have never read this author before but I will again let me start off in saying that this book is paranormal we have shifters and others with special powers, it is also very HOT. I love that we get to see how everything happens from both brothers points of view first you have Kenyon who is the second born and knows he is already bonded to the second born of another tribe. The problem is that Sage wants more and once she gets what she wants a whole new bag of problems spring up for Kenyon and Sage. You are rooting for them to get their happy ending. Then you have Nik who is the first born of the clan and he does not want to deal with the responsibility or the politics. NIk ends up caught and once he is free he meets Juliette who has secrets of her own. The longer they are together the closer they become and Nik starts thinking about going back and doing what he needs to do but they have Juliette’s past that comes back and haunts them. You want to know what happens to both couples well so do I so it’s onto the next book for me.
First off, I love shifter stories. There is something about the combination of animal and human traits that speaks to me, especially when they are well written. After reading the first book in this series (twice) I have great hopes for the longevity of this series. This book gives the reader a taste of a new world; and I, for one, have been sucked in. I loved the characters; they are strong, opinionated, and complex enough to keep it interesting. The relationships between the characters are believable--a big plus for me--and focus on more than the sexual relationship between the lovers (although there is plenty of that!). Honestly, my only complaint is that it is only a brief look into their world (I admit it, I'm greedy and want more; more about their backgrounds, their culture, their future). I cannot wait to find out more about these characters and the others that impact their world.
I greatly enjoyed this book. The only shifter romances I had read prior to this one had been wolf shifters, so the tiger shifter was very refreshing. It's amazing how absolutely different the two brothers are, and it was fun getting to know them in their respective parts (part one is focused on Kenyon while part two is focused on Nik). The amount of love these men have for their women is overwhelming, and I have always been fascinated by shifters' "true mates." It's just so romantic and sweet that there is one true mate for each shifter, and once they completely mate, they are connected like no one else could ever be. I just love it.
I like the writing style; Alicia Sparks knows how to draw in her readers :) I definitely will be reading more from her!
I really enjoy paranormal romance and was delighted to find this book had two stories in one book. Both brothers, who are tiger shifters, Kenyon and Nik get their own stories with their own leading ladies. Though I really liked both stories, I would have to say that I liked the second the best. The first story starts out with Kenyon looking for his brother Nik. He is aided by his estranged mate and we get their story as they search for Nik. The second story is what happens with Nik and how he meets his mate. Though one story starts where the other left off, both couples get their HEA. All in all, if you like sexy paranormal romance, then I highly recommend giving Primitive Fix by Alicia Sparks
A pair of stories about two tiger shifters that find their mates. The first is about the second son, who has been bonded to a wolf shifter since birth, but they have problems in the relationship. This one had too many sex scenes - even at inappropriate moments they were busy getting it on. Still, the story was pretty good. The second one I liked better, about the first son that was captured and kept in tiger form for 6 months, but his bothers manages to free him. Wounded and dying from gunshot wounds, he is found and healed by a woman with strange powers that is no stranger to captivity. They find love and manage to avenge her when she is captured again. This is marked as the first in a series and the ending for both stories is a little abrupt. I would like to know what happens next.
This book was broken into 2 parts; part 1 about Kenyon & Sage and part 2 about Nik & Juliette. I loved both parts of this book. The characters were well written, as were the scenarios. I loved the emotions shown between the H&h in both parts and the intimacy was very steamy. I would have liked to know more of their stories and what happens now, but I think the author intentionally left that out so we could watch it play out in other books from this series. I'm really looking forward to getting Logan's backstory and seeing him get his on HEA. I'd recommend this book to anyone that likes shifter stories. I
If you're looking for hot and steamy shifter novellas, look no further! Set in Louisiana, Primitive Fix introduces readers to the Maddux Clan,a family of tigers. The stories here focus on the two oldest brothers, Kenyon and Nik--and I look forward to meeting the rest of them in future tales! Normally I'm not much of a shorter works kind of girl, but sometimes you just need a nice, quick fix, you know? And that's what these stories are. They're like candy! So if you've got a sweet tooth and not a lot of time, pick this up and enjoy this tasty twosome.
Wow!! If you are new to the world of shifters, then this is one great book to start with. You have destined love, betrayel, power struggles, danger, tigers, and HOT sexy loving in one book. I don't want to spoil the story for anyone so I won't go into details, but trust that this is a great way to start falling just in love with shifters!
I got this book as a free download and I really liked it. It has a bit of a new twist on the paranormal, some reviewers did not like it, but anytime somebody comes up with something a bit different is ok by me. I found it very entertaining. The book is in 2 parts each one dealing with one brother, I liked the characters, it had plenty of action and of course no book would be complete without some steamy lovemaking. I can't wait to see what will happen next.
Enjoyed this duet, but felt like the story could have been developed more. I would have liked to know more about the characters, their pasts & would liked to have read more about the development of their feelings. Instead, I felt like I picked up mid-story and that kept me from really connecting to their stories.
This was my first shifters book. I was asked to read it & give a honest review. The story was well written & grabbed my attention from the beginning. I enjoyed the story & the characters. I'm looking forward to see what happens in the next book.
Very good book. I love reading about big cat shifters. I can't wait for the next book. I have to say this is set in Louisiana and the author did a great job with the characters. She did not make them appear backwoods rednecks. Read this one you will get hooked on shifters!!!!!
Two great paranormal romances that will spark your fire. The romances between the characters are hot and the story lines that are woven will keep you turning the pages to see what happens next. Great stories must read for anyone who enjoys a good adult paranormal romance.
This book had not only one but two hot alpha male stories about tiger shifters.
Both of them were amazing. Both of them had me up late at night reading them instead of getting some much needed zzz's. But I'm not complaining. I liked them both.
A story for each brother. I liked the dialogue, but skimmed over a lot of the rest. Would really have liked an epilogue bringing the stories to a full close. Who takes over, do they rule together, is Nic welcomed back?
