A sweet, sad, and uplifting story. It's the story of Brian, a gay young man in love with Damon, his 'straight' friend; Damon falling in love with Brian yet fighting his desires for women, and their mutual friend Lauren trying to bring them together.
Yet life doesn't get easy once Damon decides to give his relationship with Brian a chance. Damon makes the mistake of cheating on Brian with his ex, the girl who broke his heart. Then they both have to deal with Brian's illness. But in between hitting the lows in their relationship rises the hope of becoming a complete family when they decide to have a child with Lauren's help. As their happiness finally feels complete, their relationship finally on even ground, tragedy strikes not once but twice.
This story was enjoyable for me. I loved Brian, yet found it painful that he had to fight his doubts about Damon's fidelity and desire for women. Damon was sort of hard not to like because his love for Brian was obvious, but just as obvious was his lack of interest in exploring his intimacy with Brian. Lauren I liked because she is the bridge that holds them together when their issues threaten to pull them apart, she is a great friend to both of them.
Overall a nice read, although I'm still crying. Darn it, these kind of endings just suck (for me at least.)

Just read A Third of Me and I am now sat in tears!! What a bitter-sweet story it was, I loved all the characters and was not expecting the events that unfolded to conclude the story!! This is not a story of a ménage or the like or sexual based in anyway, it is quite simply a love story and what friends will do to seal their love for each other.
The story is of school friends that initially seem to have lost touch due to Brian being gay and declaring his love for his best friend Damon, a self assured ladies man from an abusive home who is swayed by prejudice and fear of prejudice by association. They come together again by the actions of a female friend, Lauren, that makes up their group. Circumstances force the two guys to live together initially as flat mates and love develops, though not of a sexual kind.
The story jumps over quite widespread time lapses and so develops without too much intricate day to day accounts. The story has a bitter sweet edge though as the relationship is flawed by concerns of prejudice of sexuality, Damon being unsure as to his attraction still to women and a major illness. The friends find a relationship that seems to work for them, though there does always seem to be a sadness that it is not a full blown relationship, or maybe that was my feeling on it, there just seemed to be holding back and accepting what you got on both sides!!
The story develops with a pact to have a child with Lauren that involves them all as being genetically joined, hence the name of the book!! A plan that is not well thought through and hiccups somewhat when Lauren falls in love during the pregnancy and brings further worry of prejudice by way of the genetics procedure they undergo.The ending is quite tragic and had me in tears, though the epilogue again shows what a gift love can give!!
I really do think this book deserves a lot more recognition that it seems to have got and will be recommending it to my friends!!

I just finished reading "A Third of Me" and loved it! It kept me up all night with a box of kleenex. The description does not do it justice... there is so much more depth to this book than indicated in the description. It is an unconventional love story, where the characters are led to make difficult and emotional choices that change them, and the course of their lives forever. I was up and down emotionally while reading. This is a book that will touch you!

I won this book in a goodreads giveaway. This is an alternative romance about three friends who are willing to do anything for each other, even have a baby together. It wasn't what I expected but in a good way. A tragic love story.

When I got into the first chapter, there was something about Brian and Damon that made me wanting to know more about what would be happening next. And so, I was hooked on reading, hoping to know the ending.
Although I enjoyed these two characters, I could not help but to be disappointed with where they ended up at... It sounded like they were not meant for happiness. Like gays should be written off in novels as tragic.. Their lives seemed directionless when the novel was coming to its end. Sad.
What about Lauren? Well, she got everything. That was kind of like teaching the gays for ignoring the diva.
In a relationship that long and no intercourse? Sad.

I read the first three chapters and got so discourage by the language that I had to stop.
I will certainly pass this along to my daughter read and review. Sorry I did try but it wasn't my cup of tea.
