That's what Sylvie Patterson wanted to know when she learned hercousin Ginger was dead. And so did Ridge Matthews, a state homicidedetective working with Winfi eld's police department. Ginger'sapartment was ransacked, followed by a string of suspiciousbreak-ins at houses where Ginger had visited. What did Ginger ownthat was so valuable someone was willing to kill her for it? It wouldtake all of Ridge's skills—and Sylvie's prayers—to keep Sylviefrom becoming the next victim.
Lyn grew up loving books. Her favorite night of the week was Friday night, when the Bookmobile came to her neighborhood in Illinois. She’d spend those two hours chatting with the driver of the Bookmobile and the librarian and making the big decision of the week — which books to check out! In those distant days, children were limited in how many books they could check out. Lyn could only take home six a week — and there were so many to choose from. Her favorites were Cotton in my Sack by Lois Lenski, The Little House series and the One of a Kind Family series. Later, she discovered Georgette Heyer’s Regency romances! This love of books led to a desire to write. Lyn won prizes in high school and college for her poetry and, not surprisingly, Lyn became a history and English teacher. When she became a mother, she gave up teaching, and while raising a son and a daughter, she began working on her first novel. Then she wrote her second and third. Long years of rejection followed — as it does for most writers. Finally in 1997, Lyn got "the call." Her first book, Never Alone, was chosen to appear in the first year of the new Love Inspired line. Lyn has written many articles on writing and the emerging Christian Booksellers Assoc. (CBA) fiction market. In 2006, Lyn's book, Chloe, is a finalist for the RWA's RITA, the highest award in the romance genre in the inspirational category. Now, Lyn spends her days writing books that show the power of divine as well as human love. Her nest is empty and she and her real life hero, her husband, have more and more time to spend together in their home on a lake in the lovely northwoods. And books are still dear to her heart.
The final installment in the Harbor Intrigueseries is as delightful as the first two. Lyn Cote is a great author, and she nails it with this series. Romance, murder, and faith are all part of the intrigue. Drugs do not just affect the user, but many others in society as well, and this novel illustrates that very well. This one will keep your interest the entire time, especially if suspense is one of your favorite genres.
This is the third, and final book in the series. Again, Lyn hits on hard issues when drugs become involved. Who killed Ginger's cousin? Can Ridge help find the answers, or will danger follow them to the end. Lyn makes her characters real and believable. They are ones you would want to become friends with, root for and cry with. Ridge is only a temporary help to the police department, but in the process his heart becomes entangled with Ginger and getting to the bottom of all the break ins and the true story about Ginger's cousin. Can they fall in love without getting killed in the process? This was a great end to a great suspense series!
I didn't want this series to end. Lyn Cote maintained the quality of the first two books in Dangerous Secrets. I enjoyed how the characters remained in this third book, but the story included new ones. Sylvie faces losses, traumas, and mysteries as the pages turn. Cote keeps you guessing again with several possible perpetrators of the crimes committed. It was a quick read because I wanted to find out what would happen next. I recommend reading Dangerous Secrets and this series, Harbor Intrigue.
Lyn Cote's Dangerous Secrets has plenty going on. Is it all connected? Will the police solve the mystery? While trying to solve the crimes in the community, will Ridge acknowledge his feelings for Sylvie Patterson? This is a good read for those who enjoy crime novels with a touch of romance.
I enjoyed this story. Even though there was a needless murder, the story ended with other positive character development. The need for God shows through in their daily lives, and eventually shows need for His love in marriage, friendship, and family. Lyn is a good writer.
I have enjoyed (and even put in my 'keeper' pile!) some books by Lyn Cote. This is most definitely NOT one of those books.
Sylvie is an ethereally beautiful woman with a bad hip from a *past*. Ridge Matthews was a part of that *past*, but he moved away, but now he's back to grab a kid he was made guardian of and chuck him in a military school... and he can't figure out why the kid is hellbent on running away.
Meanwhile, DEAD BODY, and a bunch of references to things that probably happened in the books that came before this (I *HATE* series that do that), like Rae-Ann's baby and jail time, etc. (Who, again?!?!) NONE of this is cleared up or addressed, so it's all very vague and knotted.
And I might've stuck with it, if Ridge had been in *ANY* way likeable, but frankly if we don't like the romantic lead, why would we read the book, again?
Then it got STOOOOOOPID on top of it - the cops get a search warrant for a house, but because the owner tells them to leave, they leave... nevermind their suspicious behavior, having the element of surprise *AND* a search warrant. Cote just... has 'em walk away. BAD. WRITING.
After that, I was out. I didn't like the story, I didn't like the unexplained tangles, I didn't like the hero, and I thought the writing was ridiculous, at that point.
Inspirational romantic suspense. Sylvie Patterson's cousin Ginger is found dead. Is it an accident or murder? Ridge Matthews is a state homicide detective.
