Once again, I am thankful that this is a different kind of vampire book. No sparkly vampires here. Instead the reader is treated to all sorts of paranormal creatures: vampires, werewolves, demons, and jinn.

I stumbled across this series last month when I read the 5th book in the Shadow Keepers series When Darkness Hungers. What struck me was the level of detail in this world and the organization of the preternatural creatures. I loved the small things, for example how our main characters travel from place to place – wormhole! The other little things like how hematite was the vampire kryptonite. Neat little details that made the story come alive.

In When Temptation Burns, a group of vigilante humans called The Dark Warriors threaten the peace between humans and the Shadow Keepers. The Dark Warriors are organized and have political backing as well as some paramilitary types training new recruits. They are out to kill all the vampires, werewolves, etc., no matter what collateral damage ensues.

When Temptation Burns focuses on Ryan Doyle. I was intrigued by Doyle’s character in the previous book so I was very happy that he would be featured in this book. Ryan Doyle is a percipient parademon. His talent was very useful for homicide investigations because he was able to see the last moments that a victim felt or saw. We also learn more about Ryan’s background and his horrible childhood. Ryan was a child of rape and his father was a demon. His mother tried to beat the demon out of Ryan.

Ryan and his partner Tucker investigate a sick serial killer. Their investigation leads them to the incarcerated Kyle Creevey who has a connection to the killer. When they arrive at the prison to interview Creevey, he is being interviewed by Andy (Andrea) Tarrant, a reporter. Tucker and Doyle cut her interview short. It is interesting to note that Ryan is quite taken with the lovely Andy and her eyes remind him of his lost love, Kathryn.

I liked how the romance between Ryan and Andy built slowly over the course of the book. At first they work together, but later on they grow to care about each other. Ryan holds back because he is afraid that he will hurt her and Andy doesn’t have a clue that Ryan is not human. Once these two got together, they were smoking.

This is a fascinating world. Vampires, werewolves, demons, and jinn live amongst humans. The paranormal beings patrol their kind under a special branch of Homeland Security called Division Six. The PEC – Preternatural Enforcement Coalition exists to police paranormal beings and is housed in the lower floors of the LA Criminal Justice building. I also loved the various bars for the paranormals – Club Rouge catered to vampires and Orlando’s traded souls.

I found that this book can be read as a standalone book, but for optimal enjoyment, I would urge the reader to read the other books in the series.

And what an ending! Wow.

I’m looking forward to discovering more books by J.K. Beck in the near future.

Favorite Quotes:

“Dammit, Doyle. I don’t want you looking at me like I’m a Happy Meal.”
“I want you,” he said firmly, though he knew that he shouldn’t speak. “I want to rip every stitch of your clothes off and lose myself inside of you. I want to kiss you until your mouth’s raw. I want to forget everything except you, Andy.”
Thank you to Edelweiss and Random House for a review copy of this book.

Andy has met her share of evil. She's just finished wrapping a story on the most heinous serial killer of modern time and having to spend time in that man's head and in his presence was enough to prove to her that evil does exist. When her cousin comes to her spouting words of evil and a
vigilante group set out to stop it, she in on board for another story. The report inside her would
never turn down the opportunity to excel her career. However, when this little group her cousin and
father are involved in turns out to be a supernatural hunting party, she scoffs at the idea.
Demons, werewolves, vampires. All of these are myth, so why are these people- including her own
family- so absolutely positive that the creatures they are hunting are creatures of the night?

When Doyle first laid eyes on the beautiful woman taking apart of the group he's undercover to
stop, he is struck dumb by his immediate and intense attraction to her. And when he finds out
she's level headed and not bloodthirsty for the deaths of innocent werewolves, he finds himself
smitten. Sure, he's a demon who feeds on the souls of willing donors, sure she possesses the eyes
of the one woman he imagined himself in love with before she turned her back on him and killed herself rather than accept him as her is but there's just something about her that has captured him.

The group are hellbent to eradicate the supernatural of the world and it's Doyle's job to stop it.
He never counted on suddenly finding himself bound to protect a human but when things turn south he knows he'll do everything in his power to keep her safe. Even if she finds out what he is- even if she ends up hating him.

I enjoyed this book immensely. From the characters to the plot, I was hooked. Sure, the plot and the
romance of the main characters did feel sped up and I could have done with a bit more time
for things to develop but overall this wasn't enough of a flaw to change my opinion that this
was a great novel.

We'll start with Andy. A reporter whose level headed. A woman who never rushes to conclusions and
when new facts come to light, she's someone who takes a breath, lets them sink in and then
forms her opinion or her next move. I can't tell you how refreshing it it to read about a female
lead who actually listens to reason and doesn't overreact or behave like a bimbo.

Doyle was a warm character when it came to Andy and he always treated her with care and respect.
Sure, he had a temper but he was a good person at heart and everything he did was to protect others, even at the cost of his own safety or health. I enjoyed that he was also described as a not
traditionally handsome male but rugged and rough around the edges.

A great book from start to finish. Unique world, fantastic characters and character

J.K. Beck became one of my favorite authors after unknowingly diving into her paranormal books. I had no idea she was also the author of the Release Me series (which I looooooooved). This series is a must-read, hot alphas. hot demons and all kinds of sexy times. The sensuality and the suspense combination is a win-win and one I can't resist. I'll always come back to this author for more. Book 4 & 6 of this series are perhaps my favorites.

This is what would happen if the movie Die Hard met the Supernatural world!! It has a mix of everything, fights, murder, terrorist action and romance scenes. Personally, I think it is more of a thriller novel, not a romance one.

The two main characters in the book are Doyle and Andy and we see that they have a connection from the first time they meet. They both go undercover individually, and their connection grows.

Andy is a reporter who is looking for her next big story. She has no idea the paranormal world exists and within about 24 hours her whole view of her life and the world shifts. I thought that she was a bit too quick to accept Doyle’s paranormal side and was willing to trust him too easily. I was hoping that Doyle may have to work a bit harder to win Andy over.

Doyle is an agent with Homeland security and the PEC. He is portrayed as a tough character, but I thought that he isn’t very virile. Being half-human, half-daemon, I wanted him to be quite masculine, but he holds onto something that happened a few centuries before. He is very committed to his work and wants justice done to anyone who commits a crime whether they are human or supernatural.

When Temptation Burns is a pretty intense read. There are a few plots in the book but they all tie together to form a bigger picture. The sex scenes are steamy, but don’t last very long. I believe the book is more about the action and the thrilling plot.

“J. K. Beck’s new vampire series is exiting, fast-paced dangerous and romantic but not enough to keep you hanging and waiting for the next book to come out!”

Book six in The Shadow Keepers romantic urban fantasy series When Temptation Burns begins with the opening sequence of three humans stalking a werewolf and never slows down until the final confrontation. I really think this is the best installment in this series till now and that says a lot for the rest of the series. J.K. Beck writing is easy and sets a realistic setting for this fast-paced read. I liked both main characters, Andy and Doyle. But I'm still missing that something extra that pulls you in to a book. The hot romance between Andy and Doyle only makes the story a little better for me to finish the book. Although it is a nice read it's not fantastic! But I do hope that When Temptation Burns is not the last book in The Shadow Keepers series and it will continue to be become better so we can ad another star next time.

The good - It was action packed and fast paced. The hero's power was unique. The heroine was smart and fit the hero. Nice plot and storyline with interesting supporting characters.

The bad - It was nothing special. I just finished this book yesterday. But today while adding the book I read today I absolutely forgot what I read yesterday. And that itself was a good indication that I didn't find this book unique. I also would have loved to know how would Andy share Ryan's almost immortal life. Would she die at a normal person's lifespan or would she somehow share his long lifespan? I really would have liked an explanation or hint of that.

But, I did enjoy reading this book. Maybe it just wasn't my cup of tea.

Hmm. It’s not badly written but the descriptions, especially of the supernatural events and characters, really lack romance to the point of sounding clinical. It’s a thrilling story that could have been told more thrillingly.

Book Synopsis

Half human, half daemon, Ryan Doyle is a driving force for justice. As an agent for the Preternatural Enforcement Coalition, he’s investigating murders linked to a Los Angeles fringe group bent on exposing the shadow world to humanity. He is a master of self-control, keeping his deepest hungers hidden beneath a veneer of cool professionalism. Tracking a band of conspiracy theorists eager to spill blood, Andy has uncovered the story of her career. Brooding, mysterious Ryan is an enigma—but their dance of seduction is hotter than any fantasy. As they race to stop mass murder on the streets, Andy knows that Ryan is holding back, keeping secrets. But getting close to Ryan means opening the door to a world that will challenge her deepest beliefs—including what it means to truly surrender to love.

My Thoughts

Agent Ryan Doyle is one of my favorite characters in this series and this story cemented that for me. Ryan being a half demon who gets his nourishment from human souls has to keep himself apart more often than not so as to keep from causing harm to any human when he is too weak to keep his "hunger" under control. That and a very painful occurrence years in his past make his life lonely. When in the midst of an investigation his path crosses that of Andy Tarrent, a human female who has no idea that the shadow world even exists, Ryan's need for Andy eclipses everything else. The question is will she accept him fully once she is aware of exactly what he is?

Andy Tarrent lost her mother at a young age, her father is a minister and her shoulder to lean on in times of need. Andy is a passionate woman whose search for knowledge to try and understand why someone would choose to embrace an "evil nature" has led her to a secret that could very well cost her her life. In seeking the truth Andy uncovers more than she ever bargained for leaving her embroiled in the middle of a war between humans and shadows that opens her eyes to the difference between true evil and what most humans consider to be evil.

The author has taken this series back to the suspense and the dangerous edge that I felt when reading book 1, this book embodies my favorite mix of action, mystery, suspense, romance and solid characters who the reader cannot help but become involved with as each scene in the story unfolds. I especially enjoyed watching how much Ryan Doyle opened up as the book progressed, his past was hinted at in prior books but fans finally have the full reveal that explains his personal code and why his former best friend is nowadays a bitter reminder of what he lost.

Action and suspense combined with romance and drama make this 6th book in the series a winner from beginning to end. I was pleased to find that When Temptation Burns
gave me back the thrill of reading about the "shadow world" and very much think this is the best book of the series. I look forward to reading more from the author in the future.

Using his ability to see and feel a person's final moments before death, agent Ryan Doyle is led to a radical human group whose mission is to expose and eradicate the shadow world. Half daemon himself, Ryan must be careful when going undercover to find out their next move. A task he's able to manage until he's around the woman who dominates his every thought. Andy is a reporter looking to write a story about men who believe vampires and werewolves walk among us. Realizing there's truth to their stories, Andy will work alongside Ryan, a man who both frightens and excites her, to stop a plot to kill innocents.

Ryan is an agent for the PEC, or Preternatural Enforcement Coalition. It's his job to investigate crimes in the shadow world and hunt down anyone who breaks their laws. Ryan is dedicated to this work and not a lot else has been given about his back ground. In this book we learn of his heartbreaking past and painful experiences with women. Though he's rigid and too serious a lot of the time, I've liked Ryan and I'm glad he finally opens up and shows there's more to him than his job.

Andy is a reporter and that's pretty much the only thing that's interesting about her until things become serious with Ryan. Ryan once loved a human but things ended tragically when she learned what he is. Andy was recently told her mother was murdered by a preternatural. After this is revealed, I thought I knew how their relationship would unfold. Some of it is predictable and their relationship progressed a little too quickly but the emotional connection is there and Andy surprised me with how she dealt with everything. She's opened minded, brave and accepts Ryan for what he is. I gotta love a heroine who is actually rational.

With their own reasons, Ryan and Andy try to infiltrate the human group whose goal is to destroy the shadow world. You'd think since the PEC is up against humans it would be a quick take down but they have extensive knowledge and weapons that make them a formidable foe. I was happy it wasn't another case of preternatural versus preternatural because the enemy had to be resourceful and creative to match up again beings who are faster, stronger and more powerful. The ending is suspenseful, though it felt a little rushed, but I was satisfied and I hope this isn't the last we'll see of this group because there are questions that were left unanswered.

The book starts with a second story running parallel to the main arc that in the beginning felt pointless and had nothing to do with the story that's promised in the book's blurb. A few chapters in, things come together but I felt more time was spent on the side story than needed. The physical relationship between Ryan and Andy did nothing for me but their emotional bond was solid and what I loved most about this book. The last couple books in this series have been disappointing and although I wasn't blow away by everything in this book, When Temptation Burns had enough to offer that it made me I'm glad I didn't stop reading this series.

WHEN TEMPTATION BURNS (Shadow Keepers #6) by JK Beck

WHEN TEMPTATION BURNS is the sixth novel in JK Beck’s Shadow Keepers series. The Shadow Keepers series focuses on the lives and loves of various supernatural beings. Many are members of the elite Division 6 and the Preternatural Enforcement Coalition (PEC) who police their own. Trying desperately to stay below the human radar, Division 6 and the PEC bring in those supernaturals who refuse to abide by the law.

Ryan Doyle is a paradaemon-half human/half daemon with the power to extract information from the minds of the recently deceased. Called in whenever a murder victim is a preternatural being, Ryan is able to extricate the information from the victim, but sometimes they arrive at the scene when it is too late. But when a terrified werewolf is found dying from multiple wounds and colloidal silver poisoning, the PEC knows this is not a random attack. He was one of their operatives trying to gather information on a rapidly expanding group hoping to destroy and take down the unnatural demons that inhabit the earth.

Andrea (Andy) Tarrent is a preacher’s daughter but also a very gifted reporter. One of the few women able to interview and report about a serial killer who was brutally raping and killing young woman, Andy found herself suddenly the target of the PEC (and more specifically Doyle) when the killer revealed his connection to the supernatural world. And Andy’s father is a firm believer that demons roam the world devouring and destroying everything they touch.

Andy’s introduction into the supernatural world is fast and immediate when she finds herself at a party sponsored by the people hoping to expose the vampires and weres. And she is further shocked when her father is a card-carrying member. But it is Doyle’s presence that both confuses and concerns Andy, especially when there is an attraction to each other that neither can resist.

As an undercover operative, Doyle is torn-revealing his true identity to Andy could mean compromising the investigation. But when they find themselves under fire, Doyle’s daemon will surface and it is Andy who is more than willing to help the man who saved her life.

Paul is the leader of the LA movement hoping to expose and take down the PEC. But Paul has a darker side that will eventually put everyone that Andy loves in danger. Hoping to recruit an army of warriors, Paul is willing to use any available method, including a serial killer with the information on the whereabouts of the PEC and Division 6. But when Doyle is taken hostage, it will be Andy and her father that will pay the price for their betrayal to the movement.

WHEN TEMPTATION BURNS is a great addition to JK Beck’s Shadow Keepers series. A well-written, fast paced storyline, Ryan Doyle has finally found the mate that has alluded him for so many years or 6 novels-whichever you chose.

When Temptation Burns is the sixth novel in JK Beck's The Shadow Keepers Series. A sensually evocative thriller that takes us into the depraved mind of true evil all the while promising decadent delight. I know what a combination! This is my first JK Beck book and believe me I was disturbed, enthralled, engrossed and eventually satisfied.

Ryan Doyle is first and foremost a cop, dedicated to eradicate evil and bring justice to those around him. When I first met him I thought of all those cop movies.. where the bad boy cop was out for a good time and an easy lay.. but as soon as the call to duty comes he is total and complete cop. A brilliant move on Ms Beck's part as Doyle is a cop with a twist. He is a ParaDaemon. Half human half Daemon.. and all man!

Andrea (please call me Andy) Talant, reminded me of the pesky reporter.. ready for the story... not one of those over mammafied bimbos who wants gossip but a serious journalist who wants the truth. When her cousin comes to her telling her that he just killed a Werewolf and he is part of a secret society called the Dark Warriors, she figured he was a case of ComicCon gone wild. It was just the fact that she feared he had actually hurt someone that got her worried.. then her reporters instincts started burning.. Sure these were a bunch of whack jobs but Kevin said there were politicians involved and that spelled Story.. The more Andy discovered the more she realized that these guys were for real.. They were out to kill all the Vampires, Werewolfs and things that go bump in the night. To destroy evil.. except what was really evil? Were the paranormal creatures born that way? Or was it what burned inside? Evil existed but what defined evil? Andy had choices to make..

Once Andy and Doyle met once could say Worlds collided.. Andy knew that this story wasn't black and white there was just too much involved. Way too much grey area. Together Andy and Doyle needed to fight their inner demons as well as destroy the true evil and save the world ok, just LA but it was a huge step.

Since I had not read the rest of The Shadow Keepers series I can tell you Ms Beck writes an excellent stand alone as well as captivating you for the entire story. What did distract me a bit was her basic style of writing. It was an all roads lead to the top kind of thing. There were several POV's and this book was written one POV at a time.. while she slowly crafted the trail to the top as each trail wound it's way up and merged until finally reaching the top with all stories having been told. I am not a fan of this particular style of writing.. but Ms Beck does it excellently.

I recommend this story it is an excellent read.. and an intriguing story

When Temptation Burns

Title: When Temptation Burns

Series: The Shadow Keepers bk 6

Author: J.K Beck

Genre: Paranormal Romance

Half human, half daemon, Ryan Doyle is a driving force for justice. As an agent for the Preternatural Enforcement Coalition, he’s investigating murders linked to a Los Angeles fringe group bent on exposing the shadow world to humanity. He is a master of self-control, keeping his deepest hungers hidden beneath a veneer of cool professionalism. Until he crosses paths with sinfully sweet Andy Tarrent, a gutsy reporter who makes him crave all the pleasures he’s denied himself for centuries.

This book felt more like a Paranormal Thriller than a Paranormal Romance. Though Andy and Doyle do provide strong romantic elements, they share the narrative perspective with many of the major players in the plot. Both heroes and villains get to tell their side of the story, and Beck doesn’t flinch from weaving emotionally and morally complex themes into the plot.

It was just that depth that allowed the plot to completely steal the show in this book. The romance was enjoyable, the action scenes were often too over the top for me, but the cat and mouse game of law enforcement trying to contain angry, powerful groups intent on their own vendettas was both thrilling and nuanced. Though this was my first of The Shadow Keepers series, I had no difficulty catching up and buying into the plot. Beck does a wonderful job giving both sides of the conflict human elements, and explores how violence, revenge, fear, forgiveness, and love all impact communities, whether mortal or paranormal.

While I appreciated the minimum of unnecessary drama, I would have welcomed a few interesting flaws or details in the main characters. Though Beck’s plot was morally nuanced, the main characters themselves rarely push boundaries. Doyle and Andy are more heroic, plucky, and clear-eyed than the lesser characters around them, which meant they were rather more predictable and less interesting than the twisty, difficult plot in which they starred.

WHEN TEMPTATION BURNS feels more like my first Paranormal Thriller rather than a Paranormal Romances.

As a character driven reader, this lowered my appreciation for WHEN TEMPTATION BURNS from 4 bats to 3. The plot has me interested, but as of right now, neither the world nor its characters have me hooked enough for pre-orders.

Sexual Content: Several sex scenes and attempted rape.

Andrea "Andy" Tarrent is a reporter. When her cousin comes to her with a story that is totaly unbeliveable. It seems that he has gotten mixed up with a secret group of people that hunt and kill vampires, werewolfs, and other things that go bump in the night. Her cousin and two other guys from this group attacked and killed a man they belived was a werewolf. Andy does not belive his story but she agrees to go to a meeting hopeing to be able to get the scoop and wright a story about them. She just hopes she can keep the fact that she is a reporter a secret from this group. Ryan Doyle is half-human and half-daemon. He has to feed from human souls in order to survive. Ryan is an agent with the PEC, Preternatural Enforcement Coalition. He has the ability to see a persons last moments before their death. This helps him to catch the person or persons responsible. When Ryan agrees to go undercover to stop the group of humans, he never dreams that he would find someone like Andy. As the two team up to stop a plan for mass murder, the find themselves drawn to each other. Ryan doesn't want to get involed with a human, the last time that he did it did not end very well. Once Andy finds out the truth about what Ryan is, will her love be strong enough to accept him?

This is the sixth installment of Ms Beck's Shadow Keepers series. This is a story that will grab you from the first and keep you going until the end. This story is action-packed and fast-paced. The romance between Ryan and Andy is hot enough to make you cheer for them to be together. Once you start reading you will not be able to put it down until the end.

"When Temptation Burns" by J.K. Beck. Book 6 (final book) in The Shadow Keepers series.

I really enjoyed this book. Ryan Doyle, known as just Doyle throughout the book, has been a character that was introduced in the first book and has been in each book thereafter. I've been hoping that he would get his own book and I'm so glad this book gave him a happily ever after with the character of Andrea, known as Andy throughout the book.

Doyle is a paradaemon working for the PEC (Preternatural Enforcement Coalition) and he's going undercover to infiltrate a group of humans who are attacking paranormals. The last thing he needs is a reporter, Andy, who knows who he is compromising his cover. He also happens to be attracted to Andy, who's is human, and that's a very bad thing. The last thing he wants to do is hurt her.

Andy is a reporter and her cousin is telling her he's part of a group that defends people from vampires and werewolves. But when he tells her that he may have killed werewolf, she needs to know what is going on. Andy is propelled into a world she didn't know existed, but is this new world everything she's been told? Or are there two sides to every story?

I really enjoyed the romance between Doyle and Andy in this book. Great chemistry together. A lot of action throughout the book. And we finally get to know why Doyle and Luke (Lucius from book 1 "When Blood Calls"), who used to be best friends, are not friends anymore and basically just tolerate each other. Great character development for both Doyle and Andy and the storyline throughout the book was excellent.

I really enjoyed it.

Such a good book!
I like the way the main female character (Andy) acted through out the book, I think I would of done the same, she didn't just immediately agree when she found out about the main male character (Doyle) not being human she freaked but then found out what he was all about she used her brains to sort it all out and get over her fears rather than thinking "well hes a good fuck ill get over it" which most female character seem to do !!!

It did have a lot of action in the book but it was equally sorted out with the romance.

I like the way that you got to see from different peoples points of views at the beginning it mainly seemed to be Doyle's point of view and then towards the end Andy's as it was going through how she was dealing with Doyle not being human. Andy's cousin was a really cute character an it would be cool if he was in other books!

how it played out I could imagine happening in real life as well but ive got to admit I was scared of Paul I would not want to get on his bad side he was kinda insane!

Plus I liked the way the book ended as well what Andy did made sense with her being a journalist :)

Parademon, former a**hole and PEC agent Ryan Doyle investigating a series of murders decimating the shadow realm ranks. Following the clues, and the bodies, Doyle meets annoying and pesky reporter, (for this reader's taste), Andrea 'Andy' Tarrent. Andy's tracking the growth of conspiracy theorists and local fringe groups that seem to have a thirst for the things that go bump in the night

I wanted to like this read more than I actually did. My issue was the romance. Though he's been an ugh factor through most of his appearances, this reader enjoyed Ryan Doyle's character and he was given a sufficiently tragic past to increase his swooners. However, for my taste Andy was the weak link, I didn't particularly like her or like them together and didn't buy their romance.

This unique world made its own rules, which has been part of the fun of this primarily vampire series and a few scenes made me think of the rules or shake my head at how illogical some things seemed. The vampires, djinn, shifters and other paranormals get to wave goodbye in a pretty good farewell to this simmering and enjoyable series.

I was kinda leary about this book, because Doyle has never been a character I liked. I always thought of him as a total asshole.. And the fact he never gave a rats ass about Luke always rubbed me the wrong way.. But WOW!! He has turned into one of my favorite characters, if not is now my Favorite period!! :) I am sooo sorry I never gave him the benefit of the doubt... He is a total sweet heart and has a heart of Gold. After reading about his past, and what happen with Katherine, and Luke I respected him a whole lot more, and am totaly in Love with him now. I just loved the instant connection with him and Andy, she was the perfect match for him, and just made him a better man. When him and Luke made up and he admitted his mistake for blaming him for what happen in the past, I cried liked a baby it was just wonderful to see them make amends and put the past in the past.... I loved, loved... loved this book, and didnt want it to end. I gave this book 5 stars because it is the best book in this series, I didn't think it would be but it was just AWESOME!! :D

I read the first two books in The Shadow Keepers series, then I just sort of forgot about it, and now I remember why. The book wasn’t bad. I was entertained, but it was almost to formulaic. Brooding guy, whip smart sexually repressed girl who reminds him of his dead love… I’ve read this story before, a few times. There was nothing stand out about the character’s that kept me from putting the book down. I never worried about what or how things would happen. This book is a beach or urban commuter read. You read it at your leisure. You don’t have to worry about really paying attention, and you finish it when you finish it. To be honest this is the kind of series you read when there is that lull happen’s, when no new books you want to read seem to be coming out. You’ll enjoy it, but there is no sense of urgency.

3.5*s Ryan Doyle is a paradaemon who goes undercover to infiltrate a group that is trying to bring down Divison 6, the Preternatural Enforcement Coalition. Andy is a human who gets involved with the group through her cousin, who killed a werewolf. Andy's eyes are opened, however, and she realizes that not all paranormal creatures are evil.

I wanted to love this book. Unfortunately, I thought that some of the logic didn't hold up toward the end. It seemed as if the author was manipulating the plot to make a round peg fit in a square hole. She might have jammed that peg into that hole, but it never quite fit right.

While I found this to be a well written, and interesting story, it started off quite slow. In fact I had the same complaint with the previous book in this series.

The story takes quite some time to get going, and a less patient reader may put it aside, lamenting its lack of ability to grab your attention.

Perseverance paid off though as When Temptation Burns is actually a really great read. The characters are much more like-able, the story was more interesting and exciting, and I found it to be an easy and enjoyable book to read.

When Temptation Burns was a vast improvement from the previous book in this series, and gets a well deserved 4 Stars from me :]

Though I appreciated how Beck explores the cycle of violence with a paranormal twist, WHEN TEMPTATION BURNS didn't have particular deep characters to go along with the complex and nuanced plot. While I appreciated Andy's pluck and rational thinking, she and Doyle both were just a little too perfect and predictable to hook me. While I appreciate a good thriller (which WHEN TEMPTATION BURNS definitely is), the action sequences stretched my credulity and the romance didn't hook me. Plot alone is not enough, I'm not sure I'll be back for more.

Because I (again) made the mistake of reading a book out of order, I was really surprised how easy it was to slide right in to this story and understand the world built by J.K Beck. Really great edge-of-your-seat paranormal romance where our hero, Doyle, is trying to fight his very nature while our heroine, Andy, tries to understand a world new to her. Loved the connection between these two and really felt for the emotional battles they were fighting. Great conflict, enjoyable plot, and a sexy connection between Doyle and Andy. Great read!

I straight up like this book. Doyle, half human half demon, surprised me. I didn't think I was going to like this book simple because Doyle was a prick in the other books, but he changed my mind.

Dude had a rough life.

Andy took it in stride, but what happened to her cousin..lol..they were all chilling at her house at the end..where was he?

And they are always breaking down doors! Then have sex while it's still broken..lol

Great read, think it may be my fav so far..will there be more?

This is such a kick ass series. I can't get enough of it. I'd been curious of Doyle's background since the beginning and this book told his story in such a way that was totally him. By going undercover to help stop a home-grown terrorist group against the shadowers was an awesome way to introduce him to Andy, his soon to be woman.

I don't know what happened, but this one just did not work at all. I am so glad that I got it from library instead of buying it. The story and characters were weak. I wonder what happened. The first three stories in the series were strong. I love the first story with Lucian. If this keeps up,I will not be reading anymore from this series.

Ryan Doyle has been in every book that is in this series. He is a member of the Preternatural Enforcement Coalition and has a very specialized job that is very rare. He can look into the memories of the dead and see how they died. Out of all her books, that thought I would like this one the least. NOT. It was excellent.
