Teresa Bateman was born in Moscow, Idaho, but moved to Washington State when she was three-years-old and that's where she has lived most of her life.

An avid writer and reader, Teresa has been making up stories and poems since she was in grade school. "To me it was as natural as breathing," says Teresa.

In school Teresa would drive her teachers crazy by 'creatively' completing assignments. She always met the letter of their assignment, if not the spirit. She worked hard to inject some humor into her work, knowing that the teachers would be reading hundreds of papers and wanting hers to stand out. It worked.

Teresa took English classes for fun in college and when she applied for a Washington State Teaching credential, the state looked at her transcripts and added an endorsement to teach English through the 12th grade!

Teresa cites her teacher Donnell Hunter at Ricks College in Rexburg, Idaho, as having a big influence on her and her writing. He published a class magazine to which the class submitted their work under pen names. Their grades depended on how many stories were included in the magazine. Teresa submitted under about 15 different pen names--just to be annoying! But she knew her work was being judged on its merits alone. Mr. Hunter encouraged her journal writing and instilled in Teresa good writing habits that she continues to this day.

Teresa served an 18-month mission for her church in Argentina, and taught school for a year in Honduras. She also taught school briefly in St. Mary's, Alaska -- a little bush village with a population of 500 in the winter and 50 in the summer. She has been a librarian in the Federal Way School District in Washington for over 30 years.

Teresa writes every single day. She also works full-time, so that means some days she doesn't write much, but she always writes. When at home, Teresa's special spot for writing has a good view of the lilac bushes outside. A picture of a winding path through gentle rolling hills and meadows hangs on the wall. She tells herself, when stuck for an idea, that the story lies at the end of that path.

Teresa lives in Tacoma, Washington.

Wonderful book - suitable for all ages.
I am recommending this not only to those who love dogs but to my pirate friends as well.
The rhythm and rhyme is immaculate. Impeccable cadence, perfect for this sort of tale.

The illustrations are fabulous with great expressions on each face. I had to search closely to be sure Lil' Jack was never left out. Overall I love this book.

I strongly recommend this for preschools, daycare, and libraries for storytime.
I also appreciated the final picture of the Captain cleaning himself up, lesson learned.

This is my own review and rating. I did not read this for a tour nor do I know the author or illustrator.
I purchased this in hardcover format.

An adorable picture book about a resplendent poodle named Fluffy, who uses his quick wit to overthrow the captain of a motley crew of mongrel pirates that have taken him hostage. These scallywags astutely reconsideration their understanding on what it means to be a true buccaneer. A fun read aloud to share with your kiddos.

if i were to get a dog it probably wouldn't be a poodle (and, contrary to what you may think, i do like dogs~though i do lean more to the feline persuasion)~i just generally prefer the larger varieties~ as indicated~quite correctly (for a change)~interestingly enough, by the following quiz result.
Poodles are just a little too cute, fluffy, yappy, and foufou for me (although i always thought chiauiaus were kind of cute.) However, (you could just sense that but or however coming couldn't you?) i discovered a wonderful picture book called Fluffy, Scourge of the Sea by Teresa Bateman illustrated by Michael Chesworth while my colleague was weeding picture books about an ingenuous French poodle (and i must admit French poodles are quite intelligent) which almost made me want a poodle (actually not~it just made me want the book.)
Fluffy not only convinces the hardened pirates of the sea to make him their captain but also to change their ways, in an, oh so endearing way.

This was a pretty cute book about Fluffy, the pampered poodle who gets captured by pirates and uses his wits to not only avoid having to walk off the plank but actually causes the crew to mutiny and choose him to be their new captain. The rhyme scheme and rhythm of the text seemed to be a bit muddled in places making it a bit confusing on the first read aloud, but otherwise it was a fun read.

Staging her tale in a world where dogs rule the sea, Teresa Batemen stages a competition between rival pirates that is handled with wit and imagination. Micheal Chesworth’s illustrations are whimsically fierce enhancing the authors versifying.

This is a funny little story about a pampered pooch who finds a way to outwit a band of pirates. The rhyming narrative and colorful illustrations combine to make a humorous tale that is entertaining to read aloud. We enjoyed reading this book together.

This is a great book to read aloud. It has a wonderful rhyming scheme which tells the story of Fluffy, a sophisticated pirate poodle, as he wins over the rough and gruff pirates he meets.

Cute pictures, fun rhymes, terrible message. The moral of the story is that people will give you anything you like as long as you're cute.

This picture book is a solidly cute picture book. The story is rather witty, and the illustrations are rather adorable, but I've seen better of both.
