برای شروع کتاب بدی نیست.
در مورد نگاه‌های مختلف به هنر (فرمالیسم، شمایل‌نگاری، مارکسیسم، فمینیسم، نشانه‌شناسی و روان‌کاوی) توی هر فصل توضیحات مختصری داده و زود به سراغ چندتا مثال رفته. بعضاً لابه‌لای بحث به ربط این روش‌ها به همدیگه هم اشاراتی داره.

ترجمه خوب و قابل قبوله.

محتوای کتاب و نحوه‌ی پرداختن به موضوعات رو دوست داشتم اما ترجمه و ایرادات تایپی به شدت اذیتم میکرد. من چاپ دوم برای سال ۹۰ رو دارم ولی مثل اینکه تو چاپ‌های بعدی هم اصلاحات انجام نشده. دلیل شیوه نگارش کلماتی مثل «افلاتون» به جای افلاطون، یا «روانشناسیک» به جای روانشناسانه، که این حالت بسیار زیاد بود، رو متوجه نمیشم. فاصله کلمات خیلی جاها درست نبود و خوندن رو با مشکل روبرو میکرد.
دوست داشتم توضیحات بیشتر یا معادل انگلیسی کلمات رو به صورت پاورقی ببینم که در هیچ صفحه‌ای وجود نداشت. در نهایت انتظارم از نشر نظر و علی معصومی خیلی بیشتر بود.

کتابی خوب و مهم که در چاپ پنجم هنوز نمونه‌خوانی نشده. بدعت‌های آزاردهنده در رسم الخط و معادل‌سازی‌های غیررایج خوندنش رو سخت می‌کنه. ولی مطلب همچنان مهمه.

بررسی مختصری بر شکل‌های مختلف نقد هنری، خصوصا در نقاشی و مجسمه. با این‌ که فصول اولیه‌ی کتاب خوب‌اند و در تشریح هر نظریه، مثال‌های کافی آورده می‌شود، اما در نیمه‌ی دوم، کتاب تبدیل به شرح‌حال‌نامه‌ی کوتاه چند نفر می‌شود، این فصول انتهایی عملا قادر به توضیح نمونه‌های هنری نیستند.

I picked this book up for a senior independant study course in college. Of course, it is scholarly in nature so it's not exactly bedtime reading, but, if you are a student of art history I highly recommend it.
The class was with the director of my department and two other students so we always had to be on our game with the readings. This always prompted great class discussions and led me further into the intricacies of studying art. It really opened up a lot of new ideas for me about HOW to study art and the history of the field. It's pretty meaty material, but a great introduction to anyone who is interested.

An accessable source to any scholar who's not too familiar with cultural heritage and art studies yet.

This book explains the meaning and application of approaches to study art and art objects.

I had to read just the first 2 - 3 chapters for my methods class (Art & Material Objects), but I ended up reading the whole book.

I do still wonder why psychoanalysis is included... I understand they have similarities, but Freudian psychoanalysis is not counted as an academical approach (anymore), right? And then there is the fact that I find his theories on sexual and genital development very disturbing and repulsive.

Objective and thorough primer and reference with many leads and interesting tangents to explore. Historical context will be familiar to anyone with an Art History 101 credit. Philosophical threads are woven a little too tightly in the latter half, but understandable; if you need more clarity, Adams gives the resources.

Good at giving the main points on several approaches to study and research in art like formalism, feminism, Marxism etc, good referencing, good structure and good description with proper examples and an easy to understand language

تركيب روش شناسي هاي متغير هنر با "روايات اسطوره اي" و "زندگي نامه منتقدان هنر" به كتاب سياليت بخشيده و خوانش را فرآيندي دلپذير كرده است. شيوه ارائه مطالب در تقابل با "راهنماي نظريه ادبي معاصر" كه به تازگي خوانده ام قرار دارد و مطلبي اضافه يا بي مورد به چشم نمي آيد.
