Even though he’s in love with his beautiful gardener, Francie Carter, Daniel Alexander III takes his marriage vows very seriously. Until he gets the balls to ask for a divorce, watching each other play is all he can offer her. Then Dan convinces Francie to allow his friend, Simon Paris, to be his surrogate – to have sex with her while Dan watches and supervises. It’s a win-win. Dan stays faithful to his wife, and with Simon’s help, he can keep Francie satisfied until he gets the nerve to ask for a divorce. And with their yawner of a love life, Dan’s wife, Isabel, is enjoying her own version of borderline fidelity with her massage therapist, Ellen. Bel can’t see the harm. After all, it's not proper sex if it's with another woman, is it? But Dan’s discovery of Ellen and Bel trysts strangely rekindles his passion for his wife. As sex with Bel gets kinkier and better, and sex between Francie and Simon gets ever more sizzling, Dan thinks he has the best of both worlds. But secrets don’t stay secret. Substitutes aren’t the real thing. And in the end there are no surrogates for matters of the heart.
For K D Grace, penning a good tale is a physical act. When she’s not writing, K D is veg gardening or walking. Her creativity is directly proportional to how much soil is under her fingernails or how quickly she wears out a pair of walking boots. She’s having a mad affair with a pair of kettle bells at her local gym and an even madder affair with a stainless steel pole in the pole fitness studio just across the street. She’s fascinated with mythology and fairy tales, which inspires many of her stories. She loves to read. She loves anything that gets her out of doors. But she loves writing a story best of all.
Voted ETO Best Erotic Author of 2014, K D is the author of sixteen novels and multiple novellas and short stories for multiple publishers. She also writes romance under the name Grace Marshall. At present she is excitedly publishing her Medusa’s Consortium urban fantasy series. The first three novels, beginning with In The Flesh, are now available.
Dan loves his wife, Bel, and does his husbandly duties - whilst thinking of Francie, his delectable head gardener. He enjoys an unusual relationship with Francie - he will not treat Bel how his father treated his mother and therefore he will not cheat on his wife.
Then Simon, an old Uni pal, arrives and he becomes Dan's surrogate - doing everything with Francine that Dan cannot.
I shall never look upon a courgette or even a dibber in the same light ever again!
Francie and Dan are desperately in love with one another, but they aren't having an affair – not technically. During their private meetings in the lavish grounds of Dan's opulent estate, they don't touch each other. Instead, they engage in simultaneous masturbation, encouraging one another with dirty talk until each reaches an independent climax. In Dan's view, at least, he's still being faithful to his wife Isabel.
Dan assures Francie that he'll eventually divorce Bel, but he isn't ready yet to take that step. He believes that Bel is too emotionally fragile to handle the shock. Meanwhile, although Bel employs Francie as her kitchen gardener, they're also close friends. Torn apart by guilt and sexual frustration, Francie decides to leave her job for one that plays less havoc with her feelings.
To persuade her to stay, Dan enlists the help of his college chum Simon, a handsome landscape architect who has a lot in common with Francie. According to the plan, Simon will become Dan's surrogate, making love to Francie while Dan watches and directs. Simon agrees, primarily because he's strongly attracted to the earthy, uninhibited young woman himself.
Unbeknownst to her husband, Bel is engaged in some extracurricular sexual shenanigans of her own, in the company of her masseuse Ellen. When Dan finds out, the kinky possibilities re-ignite his lust for Bel – even though he tells himself he loves Francie. Secrets unravel, motives are misunderstood, and for a while it appears that nobody will end up satisfied. That illusion is dispelled, however, as each character ends up matched with partner he or she deserves.
I loved The Initiation of Ms Holly, the last book by K.D. Grace that I reviewed, so I opened Surrogates with eager anticipation. Unfortunately, I found myself rather disappointed by this book. The plot premise felt contrived, an insubstantial ruse to justify the sex scenes. The sex itself, though copious and well written, was pretty pedestrian compared to the wildly imaginative scenes in Ms Holly. There are M/F/M and M/F/F ménage interludes and a whole lot of wanking, as well as the obligatory corporal punishment scene, but somehow all of this bonking lacked conviction. There were no surprises, no shocks or risks, no breath-stealing excitement or delicious shame. This may be in part because so many of the sexual encounters were literally staged by Dan, in his attempts to have his cake and eat it too.
The voluptuous Francie is an appealing character. (I keep finding myself wanting to write “well-rounded” or “fully fleshed-out”...) She's passionate, unaffected and genuine, with a powerful connection to nature – a true goddess type. It's no wonder she inspires such desire in the men around her. She rings true – the descriptions of her passion are among the best parts of the book – and I would love to have met her in a deeper and more engaging story.
The sensitive but virile Simon is her perfect match, though it takes a surprisingly long time for her to realize this. Dan, on the other, struck me as so selfish, self-centered and self-deceiving that he's almost a caricature. Toward the end of the book Ms. Grace suggests that he may be punished for his dishonesty and sexual greed, but one gets the impression he'll enjoy that chastisement far more than he should. He's so unsympathetic that I found it implausible that someone with Francie's virtues would ever be attracted to him.
The plot of Surrogates smacks a bit of a Shakespearean comedy, with its deceptions, misdirections and revelations. I found myself thinking of Titania and Bottom. Perhaps one should view Ms. Grace's characters from that perspective, as comic archetypes manipulated by the author for the pure fun of it. Certainly, with the possible exception of Francie, they didn't strike me as at all realistic, but maybe that was intentional.
Surrogates is not a bad book, if you're looking for stroke fiction. It races along smoothly from one orgasm to the next, raunchy and playful, amusing and pleasant (as long as you can put aside the urge to kick Dan in the butt). However, I know from experience that K.D. Grace is capable giving the reader more than a quick wank, that she can produce erotica with a great deal more depth, insight and passion than is evident here. I'm sorry this book doesn't fulfill that promise.
Surrogates is a new novella from K D Grace, published by Mischief. In typical K D Grace style, it contains gardens, vegetables and lots of hot and truly filthy sex. In fact, you may never look at a courgette in the same way again.
Surrogates is the story of Daniel Alexander III. He’s in love with his gardener, Francie Carter, but until he plucks up the courage to ask his wife for a divorce, he won’t do anything about it. He and Francie simply wank together – because as they’re not touching, Dan doesn’t class it as cheating. The trouble is, though Dan’s getting some – albeit dull and unsatisfying sex – from his wife, Bel, Francie isn’t getting any, and Dan’s worried that her sexual dissatisfaction will make her leave.
Dan then comes up with the idea to let his friend, Simon Paris, be his “surrogate.” Simon will have sex with Francie while Dan watches and supervises – and wanks, of course. That way, everybody is happy. Or at least that’s the way Dan sees it.
Meanwhile, Dan’s wife, Isabel, is also exploring borderline fidelity with her massage therapist, Ellen. Bel believes that because she’s sleeping with a woman, it’s not “proper sex” and therefore, not cheating.
In a strange twist of fate, Dan’s discovery of Ellen and Bel’s relationship rekindles his passion for his wife. As a result, their sex life improves massively. At the same time, Francie and Simon’s passion grows, and Dan thinks he has the best of both worlds. But pride comes before a fall, and soon, the seedy secrets and lies start to unravel. When the dust settles, it’s interesting to see how the land lies.
I read all of this novella in public, and was constantly checking over my shoulder to make sure no one could see my Kindle screen – they’d have been shocked. Surrogates is seriously naughty – as you’d expect from this particular author – and I did wonder where things were going as the story continued. I was also pleasantly surprised by the twist in the tale.
Full of quirky (and some not so likeable) characters, kinky sex, unusual settings and clever writing, Surrogates is definitely an erotic romance novella I’d recommend if you’re looking for something a little different.
fter reading Body Temperature and Rising I have been hooked on KD Grace's writing, she has a way to entice you into reading the whole book in one sweet read and this was no exception. I'm very honoured to have received this Surrogates to read from KD herself so was really excited to read this NEW book in the Mischief range.
DANIEL ALEXANDER III takes his marriage vows seriously. Until he gets the balls to ask his wife, BEL, for a divorce, watching each other masturbate is all he can offer his beautiful gardener, FRANCIE CARTER. But when Dan’s friend, SIMON PARIS, agrees to be his surrogate, affairs of the heart get complicated.
This was an exciting and sexy read at the turn of every page, with a storyline that was so original it was brilliant. I loved the unusual scene set in the beautiful gardens. I simply could not put this book..er...iphone...down I had to keep reading till Id reached the end page. Wow what a read, it left me breathless. KD has explained the main characters Dan and Francie and Simon so well you feel completely connected to these characters, they come alive on these pages...er screen! I especially felt for Francie as we watch her go through a rollercoaster of emotions and see her reactions towards Dan and the surrogate Simon through this exceptionally well written novella. Dan has this idea he wouldn't be cheating on his wife if he just watches Francie having sex with another man by his own direction, a surrogate. Sounds a simple idea but it doesn't go to plan!
The sex scenes were a brilliant mix of masturbation and voyeurism to threesomes and some very hot girl on girl action. Plus a beautiful re-connection between husband and wife a very special part of this book too, experimentation is always good; relighting old fires is still very possible! Then finally with a great piece of domination and submission thrown in for good measure...for an explicit smokin' ending....phewy. KD has combined my love of gardening and made it into something very sexy, I will never look at vegetables in the same way ever again. If you want a fun, fast read with great character flow and connection and hot sex on almost every page this is for you.
I recieved this novel in return for an honest review. My blog A Redheads Guilty Reads was apart of the K.D Grace blog tour: Here is the link to the review, guest post and a book excerpt on my blog: http://aredheadsguiltyreads.blogspot....
Ever been a situation where you can or want to look but not touch? Well that's exactly what's happened to Dan! He's convinced himself he isn't exactly cheating on his wife while him and his Gardner masturbate together without performing the act on her himself! Although when he convinces his best-friend Simon and Francie to sleep together pretending it's him and her things heat up rather quickly! Including Dan in the bedroom with his wife and her massage therapist - Ellen!
K.D Grace definaly knows how to make her readers blush! Doesn't she? Especially when a little S&M is involved! Even if one particular scene was hot hot hot the novel will surely get your temperature rising with what else is included!
Surrogates is the perfect novel for any erotica reader out there as K.D Grace has gave us readers all we could have wished for.... The perfect love story filled with hot passionate sex, a little S&M, some girl on girl action.... and some tender gardening thrown in! ;)
Simon and Francie my two characters. They were simply a match made in complete and utter blissness heaven along with Dan and Bel who very gladly worked things out in the end with needless to say a very good spanking - By Bel of course! Although.... I think I agree with Simon that Dan would enjoy himself a little to much!
Wow, Just wow! Surrogates is a hot, sexy, sensual novel! It definitely defines erotica it in it's own right. K.D Grace is one amazing author whose novels simply should be devoured!
Who would ever have thought gardening could become sexy? All I know is I need to sign up for some gardening lessons! ;)
I received this review copy free of charge, in return for an honest review.
Daniel Alexander III meant every word of his wedding vows to Bel with the utmost sincerity, so he's at a complete loss as to what to do when he begins to develop feelings for his attractive female gardener Francie. Careful not to break his wedding vows, Dan believes that 'watching' Francie masturbate in front of him will suffice his cravings and without having any physical contact, he can't possibly be accused of cheating on Bel. Things continue like this for a while as Francie is anything but shy and plays up to Dans wanton needs, living in the hope that one day she can have Dan mentally and physically ....just as soon as he plucks up the courage to ask Bel for a divorce.
Things take a slightly different turn when Simon, an old friend of Dans turns up and Dan approaches him with a proposal. What if Simon was to get physical with Francie whilst Dan watched and ordered instructions? A notion almost too bizarre to contemplate for Simon, although he couldn't help but admit that it did stir up a few tingles in his nether regions. To top everything off, Bel seems quite content having intimate one-on-one sessions with her massage therapist, Ellen .....unbeknown to Dan!
Grab yourself a copy and find out what happens as the story unfolds ....there are more twists and turns than I ever expected and each one took me by surprise! The sex scenes are pretty kinky and there's also the use of a few impliments ....I learned a few things reading this thanks KD ;) A great storyline which will grab your attention, pull you in then leave you breathless by the end. A highly charged and deeply explicit read which is sure to have you gasping in both shock and pleasure.
Dan loves his wife. He also loves Francie, the kitchen gardener. He can't bring himself to actually physically cheat on his wife, so he finds loopholes in his marriage vows. One such loophole, if he doesn't actually touch Francie and she doesn't actually touch him, he isn't cheating. At least in his mind. Dan and Francie have mutual masturbation sessions. After a time though, it's not enough for Dan, so he approaches a friend. Dan's plan is to have Simon sleep with Francie while he watches. Simple right? Not so much. Simon really likes Francie. While all this is going on, Dan's wife Bel is having an affair with Ellen, her massage therapist. Soon though, Dan finds out about Bel and Ellen. He decides to join them as well. Now he has the best of both worlds. It could come crashing down around him, but he'd worry about that another day.
This book was a soap opera inside a porn movie inside a soap opera. Other than the fantastically written sex scenes, this book doesn't have anything of value to offer. If you are looking for something to spark your night, or day, this will do it. It offers a wide variety of sexual situations. If you're looking for a good story, keep moving.
The issues I found were that it seemed to just wrap around and around and yet say nothing. It should at least have a solid story line before you add the sex scenes.
I gave this one 2 out of 5 books because it went nowhere fast.
Wonderful stuff. The scenes are filthy and in more ways than one. Yes it's erotica so of course includes graphic sexual content and if that isn't your thing then perhaps this isn't the book for you.
I didn't relate to the plot as much as other books and that is why I've chosen to give a rating of 4. It probably deserves more and is more due to a personal preference than a reflection of the authors writing.
The occupations of two of the characters was unusual and I loved that. Likewise the characters in this book were strong, certainly strong enough for me to develop a sense of dislike towards one or two and a deep sense of loyalty towards another couple of the characters.
I think the main issue I had with this book is down to the fact I felt the characters didn't communicate well. It's probably because it's something that I personally require in a relationship so don't "get" when others don't. Again this isn't the authors fault, the characters will be truer and more realistic for this. It also allowed for a little switch around towards the end of the book where my dislike for a couple of characters softened and I felt more like cheering them on.
Well worth a read by anyone but particularly those who enjoy steamy, sensual, hot, naughty scenes in an erotica book.
KD Grace has a highly readable writing style, and the sex is definitely sizzling, so if that's mainly what you go for, this is a hot ticket from the get go.
Yet after a strong start I felt this one tailed off - once the protagonist Dan ropes in Simon to be his surrogate with Francie, it's hard to quite understand his choices, and it seems to me the writer's own focus then shifts to the Simon/Francie pairing, leaving Dan feeling like a slightly irritating ex- who just keeps hanging around when he's not wanted.
Then any potential drama with regard to Dan's bending of his marriage vows is almost instantly dissipated by his wife's own infidelity, when ends up tying up the loose ends largely as expected, but brings a heavy sense of soap opera verging on farce that ends up cheapening the erotic elements of the story, leaving a slight sense of unsatisfaction at the end.

Dan loves his wife Bel but their sex life is just going through the motions. He lusts after his gardener Francie but won't cheat on Bel (although other things do occur). Dan convinces old friend Simon to be his surrogate and satisfy Francie's needs while he gives guidance. Will this be enough for Simon though who sees how wonderful Francie is. Meanwhile Bel is unsatisfied with Dan's listless sexual performance and embarks on a saucy romp with her masseuse Ellen. This book is jam packed with all manner of steamy scenarios including M/F, F/F, M/F/F combinations, masturbation, anal play......the works!! A sexy, hand clenching, breathtaking romp.
“I received this book as a review copy in return for an honest review” Surrogates by KD Grace How does she come up with her ideas? This was a very well written and thought out book. She continues to amaze me with every book I read. Who would have ever thought to use a surrogate instead of cheating on your spouse? If you enjoy a voyeuristic book than this is a good one…WOW!
I received this book in return for an honest review. As always KD delivers a sext, hot, dirty tale full of twists and turns. I did spend time loving and hating characters and shouting and cheering (I did get some looks) HIGHLY RECOMMENDED
