مینوسیها
«مینوس» نام یک شاه اهل جزیره کرت بود. «آرتور اونز» دانشمند و حفار انگلیسی از روی نام همین پادشاه این قوم را مینوسیها خواند. متأسفانه با وجود بیش از یک سده حفاریهای مستمر در سراسر کرت و جزایر نزدیک آن، اطلاع از مینوسیها بسیار محدود مانده است. غیر از تعدادی اسامی ذکر شده در اساطیر،که ممکن است ساختگی باشند، رهبران سیاسی یا اشخاص مینوسی مهم دیگری شناخته نشدهاند. به همین ترتیب، دانشمندان عملاً هیچ چیز درباره تاریخ مینوسیها نمیدانند. این امر فقط به این دلیل نیست که مینوسیها در زمان بسیار قدیم زندگی می کردند. مشکل اصلی باستانشناسان و دانشمندانی که در مورد مینوسیهامطالعه میکنند این است که برخلاف مصریها و اهالی بینالنهرین، مینوسیها هیچ ادبیات مکتوبی از خود باقی نگذاشتهاند، آنها تنها قوم باسواد و بسیار با فرهنگی بودند که هیچگونه درکی از تاریخ نداشتهاند.

This was a beautiful book about an ancient island. Minoans lived in Crete island for centuries,a nd they established one of the most advanced civilizations in their time. Now the historians believe that CTERE was actually the ATLANTIS based on the facts from Plato dialogs. Plato describes the Atlantheans and gives many information about how they lived and how they got all erased from the earth by a huge under sea volcano. They all match with the facts now historians found after amny exxcavations in the island. Very good reading for all History lovers..

I read this book looking for some simple information about the Minoans. They remain a frustratingly elusive people about who not too much is known--I can't truly fault the book, but I still remain unsatisfied about this people. It does agree with my thoughts that the island of Thera is the best possibility for Atlantis--I only wish a little more information was available on the eruption in this book.
