It's not the end of the world, it's the beginning of a new one. Humans are no longer at the top of the food chain now they're on the menu. When a small band of survivors comes under attack, they must leave the safety of the compound and take their chances on the outside. (Includes an excerpt from the upcoming novel "Night Slashers")
The date was October 31, 1979. The air was cool and a light fog blew in from the gulf, cloaking the Tampa area in an ominous, tight-fitting tunic. The annual Halloween festivities had just begun and a night of mischievous tomfoolery was afoot.
Scandalous and nefarious characters took flight. Doorbells were rung and ill-boding tricks were played regardless of the treats given. This was the dark reality of the bustling Florida metropolitan.
To the north, Grateful Dead crooned the night's theme music at the Nassau Coliseum. Within earshot of the concert, witnesses stated a UFO hovered over the grounds for thirty minutes before vanishing.
At the same time the Cromarty's were busy hosting their notorious Halloween party at 112 Ocean Ave., better known as the Amityville Horror House. Screams and cries for help were reported throughout the night, punctuated with the disappearance of the family next door. They were never heard from again.
Unknowingly altering the course of history, Kurt Vonnegut released "Jailbird" the same week KISS gained infamy on The Tomorrow Show. The aftermath of this collision would not be felt for decades until the emergence of Justin Bieber.
After a night filled with mayhem and destruction and the deaths of several prominent entertainers, politicians and a notorious bank robber, the Federal government was forced to loan $1.5 billion dollars to Chrysler. This spurred a series of violent protests, resulting in the Brunah Agate oil spill. Over 10.7 million gallons of oil were dumped into the Galveston Bay. This became the worst oil spill disaster in U.S. history.
A few hours later on November 1, 1979, Rashad Freeman was born. Feel free to draw your own conclusions.
Good old fashioned zombie fun. I love end of the world books and this one did not dissapoint. The nuclear part was interesting as well and the amount of action was like literal crack. Mama likes!!!
Another great zombie read. This was different than most zombie stories because he seemed to create an entire new world after a nuclear attack. Although it was a short story it seemed to really take you on a journey. I can't wait to see how the story progresses with the sequel.
(I've added the following to my review on amazon: I've since realized that it's a common practice for indy writers to publish as they go, and I'm sure the final, book-length version will make up for the quibbles I had below.)
This author shows a lot of promise. I'm definitely interested in reading more from him, although I'll feel cheated if this turns into a book peddled chapter by chapter disguised as "short stories".
While the author is promising, he either needs a better editor or to edit his work a little more thoroughly. That said, his writing is infinitely better and still has less mistakes/typos than in the book I'm reading now (The Rising).
What I really enjoyed was the fresh take on apocalyptic monsters (for lack of a better word). While certainly inspired by zombies, they're something altogether new. I'd urge those interested in the genre to check this one out.
One of the best zombie books I've read. Really excited about the sequel. My favorite part about the book was the whole new world built which leaves a lot of directions for the next book to go. There weren't just zombies, but mutated giant lion things and other stuff. Hungry for part 2.
Exciting quick read. The opening scene hooked me. I felt like I was there with poor old Nielson. Favorite character had to be Marcus, that kid was funny. I hope to see more of him in the sequel.
Best short story ever! I wanted it to keep going. When it ended i was so sad. I could not stop reading it. I literally could picture everything so perfect that it was like a mini movie going on in my head. Really great work.
Great read. The description is really what drew me in, I mean I felt like I was running with the guy at the beginning of the book. Can't wait for the 2nd part.
Loved this!!! Unfortunately can't find part 3. Does Rashad Freeman actually finish anything he writes or just come up with amazing story plots to leave you hanging with a cliffhanger stop?
"Apocalypse" by Rashad Freeman is a book that popped up on Amazon as a recommendation so I downloaded it. But, I was tricked. The category and story was something I like to read, but this book turned out to be a Short Story. There needs to be a disclaimer on Amazon for books like this so the customer does not believe it is a full book. Oh Well. If my expectation had been a short story, might not have been so bad. This is one of the negatives of Ereading. You do not actually pick up a physical book and feel its heft or see the thickness.
Since it was awful short, it dives right into the middle of an apocalypse with strange things running around in the dark. I am guessing they were monsters too since a couple of people in the book fell down while running and were immediately devoured. I am not sure, but they were probably women. Women always fall down when monsters are chasing them. No doubt about it. This author was fairly gruesome in his descriptions too. Nothing shorted out of those scenes in the book. Anyway, it was fairly decent, but cannot give it a good rating because it was over as soon as it began. There was an excerpt for a forthcoming book of his and might take a look when it comes out. Maybe.
