When French gangster Tuco Martinez threatens Carlyle and his family, the inspector has to call on the resources and skills of Dominic Silver to try and see him off. But Dom won’t do all the dirty work and so Carlyle has to go into hiding. Cut off from his home turf, both literally and metaphorically, Carlyle struggles to cope with the situation while meanwhile, back in London, the charismatic major, Christian Holroyd, is finally spiralling completely out of control…
What started off as an interesting story, lost it completely by half way through. Far too many different story lines which were never really bought together satisfactorily - cut these in half and bring them to a decent finish and you would have at least a 3 star book.
And why all of the product placement and detailing of the names of restaurants, versions of guns etc. this was a complete distraction and added nothing to the narrative.
Also the sex scenes were ridiculous and the brief discussion of middle eastern men taking male lovers prior to marriage was irrelevant to the plot, so why include it?
