Young Tom Morrell is faced with his own hard decisions as his family wrestles with the idea of giving up the family farm in order to survive in hard times, in an honest and humorous growing-up story.
When I started reading this book it seemed like it was written as a young adult novel. But by the end, there were some pretty harsh themes revealed. So it starts off light hearted, and ends up heartbreaking.
*3.5 Random estate sale find. It was pretty good although the ending was abrupt/unexpected? It was surprisingly funny — the irreverent young boy narrator voice made me laugh out loud.
