Yet another Jemma Kidd book skimmed through and finished in a day. I was hoping that this would be better than her previous book, but it's equally as useless. Very rudimentary and an utter waste of my afternoon.
This is only I think the second of all beauty books I've read that I found absolutely a must have. While there are some basic information you can find everywhere the rest is new information and techniques in glad I found. Plus it's filled with really gorgeous photographs and makeup tips that will never grow out of style.
This book may look lie an average how-to book for women trying makeup for the first time, but it is actually so detailed and educational. In her book, Kidd addresses several common questions involved with makeup, and also goes into detail about specific colors, techniques, and skin science. The book is full of helpful diagrams, pictures, and tips about how to do makeup, skincare, and color combinations. It includes many specifics on one of my biggest struggles, eyeliner. I learned a lot from this book and would be happy to give it a four out of five. The only thing that would improve it would be to add a list of product suggestions or examples. I would recommend this book to anyone who is interested in makeup, or anyone who just wants to improve their technique.
Reread this for the 2nd time and I’ve increased my rating. It has some legit info and maybe after a year my makeup needs have changed. (this is another way of saying i might be getting old...er)
For a beginner to make up, this book is definitely a go to. I learned about techniques and tips that probably would've overwhelmed me if I just looked it up online. The best part of this book is that it has make up tips for certain features such as face shape, type of skin, color of skin, etc.
Plenty of useful information in there, even for a long-term make up addict like me. My one criticism was that I spotted a few spelling and grammar mistakes!
Jemma Kidd is an international make-up artist and creator of a make-up line sold in stores as diverse as Neiman Marcus and Target. Her latest book, Jemma Kidd Make-Up Secrets is a compilation of not only make-up secrets but a guide to skincare as well. Part I, Making Make-Up Work for You, and Part II, Problem Solver, contain solutions for women of all ages, colors, and skin types.
The make-up chapters cover all the basics, such as foundation, blush, eye shadow, and lipstick. For each section there are the top 10 questions asked and answered. The pages are well-divided between photographs, drawings, and text. In addition there are two other chapters, one that looks at make-up trends and explains how to try them without going too far, and another that is a marvelous look at some of classic beauties (Audrey Hepburn, Grace Kelly, Ava Gardner) and how to replicate their looks. Both of these chapters are a fun bonus as Kidd approaches them with her standard belief that less-is-more, so even something as extreme as neon eye shadow looks feasible. With the holidays approaching, she provides do-able options for women of all ages to try something new and fun.
This book is chock full of important things that are crucial to know, providing you were born yesterday and have never done anything for your skin.
I disliked not knowing what products were being used, except for when she plugged her own line. Surely she uses other things, as every makeup artist I know uses products from lines that themselves don't own.
I found aspects of this book condescending and utterly offensive. I'd like to think she was ignorant as to the message she could be spreading, but cannot say for sure. I will not recommend it or purchase it and in turn, will not purchase any of Jemma's products for personal use.
I LOVED her first book so much that I had to get the second. Just like the first one, I believe that this book is an essential for makeup users. I Love Ms.Kidd's makeup style. I'm all about looking polished versus looking made up. This book is just right for that. I would read it again, and I would recommend it. Love her!!
A very good book for people who are interested in makeup or just want to learn more about skincare and simple techniques. It gives skincare tips for all different skin types and for different times of the year. It also shows what color palettes work with your skin tone and eye color.
As a self-described makeup addict I found this book the most informative about not only how to apply makeup but how to achieve different looks. There was a ton of information on techniques as well as products that can help a person achieve these looks.
My go-to makeup resource!! This is an absolutely essential read for anyone who loves makeup application, whether you're an artist or you want to improve your self-application.
