THE TOVE JANSSON CLASSIC IN A NEW SOFTCOVER FORMAT Due to the resounding success of the hardcover Moomin comics by Tove Jansson and Lars Jansson, D+Q is reissuing this classic comic in an all-new format. Available in an affordable kid-proof but kid-friendly flexicover, and in full color for the first time, these books are slimmer versions of the hardcovers, with one story in each volume while previous editions collected four.
Moomin's Winter Follies
Moomin wakes up one morning to find the pond frozen over, and rather than hibernate, the family decides to brave the winter weather. At first, their wintry adventure seems to be going swimmingly, until Mr. Brisk of the Great Outdoors Club takes over and forces everyone to embrace the winter sports, whether they want to or not.
Tove Jansson was born and died in Helsinki, Finland. As a Finnish citizen whose mother tongue was Swedish, she was part of the Swedish-speaking Finns minority. Thus, all her books were originally written in Swedish.
Although known first and foremost as an author, Tove Jansson considered her careers as author and painter to be of equal importance.
Tove Jansson wrote and illustrated her first Moomin book, The Moomins and the Great Flood (1945), during World War II. She said later that the war had depressed her, and she had wanted to write something naive and innocent. Besides the Moomin novels and short stories, Tove Jansson also wrote and illustrated four original and highly popular picture books.
Jansson's Moomin books have been translated into 33 languages.
Another fun adventure with the Moomin family. This time they compete in some Winter Olympic games after failing at hibernation. The host is aggressive and full of himself but the girls really like him.
The Moomins are just the cutest! The plot wasn't too exciting, but I adore the drawing style and that alone is enough to make these comicstrips great. There are also some pretty funny one-liners.
With all the excitement online about the movie, I decided to read some of the series! I love the Moomins. I think they were what I was feeling so nostalgic for the first time I saw a Ghibli film. It's the same vibe of gentle freedom and beautiful nature and loving family.
I really enjoyed this little book! It was my first full Moomin comic, and Moominvalley is such a charming place of friendship, coziness, and murderous intent (Moomin with the branch, anyone?) and I just love it! It's such a wonderful mix of light and dark humor, and it's equal parts silly and sweet.
Avevo già letto delle strisce su pinterest ed è stato amore a prima lettura, sapevo che mi avrebbero completamente rapito. E così è stato, non vedo l'ora di leggere le altre raccolte, i libri, e vedere la serie animata🖤
I'm delighted to find this series of graphic novels by Tove Jansson. Moomin's Winter Follies are wonderful! Wild and creative characters and a charming story. Easier for me to get into than the novels. Glad to know there are more in this series.
My first Moomin book & probably my last. The illustrations were lovely and the coloring was great, but I didn’t love the story or the characters at all.
I'm sure this was more enjoyable 60+ years ago but it was just incredibly dated and I did not get the appeal. Probably won't read any other Moomin stuff.
