Probably the best book related to the history of baseball's negro leagues, as Patterson uses actually interviews and stories from the players to give a comprehensive history from start to finish. It's awesome to be able to really get to know the players through their own words.

Worth reading for the player quotes alone. The chapters about Negro League baseball's origins were insightful. The last 100 pages or so are standings and statistics which have since been updated and are available online.
