SUPERSTARS DECLAN SHALVEY & Andrea Broccardo TAKE ALIEN TO BONE-CHILLING NEW DEPTHS! Scientist Batya Zahn will do just about anything to get her family off the icy moon where they’ve been conducting research on water conservation. But there’s more than glacial springs to find in this forgotten corner of the galaxy. When they discover an extraordinary organism buried in the ice, it won’t take long for tensions to heat up. What is hidden in the snow comes forth in the thaw…and no one will be welcoming this spring. A new era of Alien starts here!
Hm. Another typical Alien set-up, we've seen something similar a hundred times before. And Weyland-Yutani, again. There are other megacorporations in this world.
The art is okay, the colouring lacks any sense of atmosphere.
Another restart but it seems no one can do an alien story without using weyland-yutani as generic bad company, I’m sure we’ll find out someone’s an android as that always has to be there too.
The characters come across unlikable, and I’m very tired of ‘spunky teen girl with that stupid half shaved one side haircut’ trope. Once this 6 episode run is up I’m going to cancel my subscription as honestly ever run has been uninspiring, just as a massive alien fan holding out hope someone would make them feel scary again and tell a great story.
Why are Marvel writers terrible? This looked like it was gnna be good but it’s so incredibly boring and so unoriginally written. How do people keep messing up such brilliant franchises like Alien?
Big Alien fan in general, so almost an automatic five star. That said, I do genuinely like the art as it is both good and captures the Alien/Aliens vibe well while still retaining its own sense of self.
The story is classic Alien fodder, which I have no problem with. Family stuck on a dead end ice moon looking for potable water and ice samples to help further human colonization of space. Clearly, horrors are to soon ensue; delicious. Outside of usual alien friends, we have some less-than-pleasant humans joining the science team/family. Weyland-Yutani has long been the big (human) bad in the Alien universe, and I’m just fine with that seemingly being the case here.
The family angle of this story reminds me of the YA novel Alien: Echo, which I quite enjoyed. Here’s to hoping we get lots of horror and helplessness/hopelessness in subsequent issues. Cheers.
Edit: Forgot to add that since this is in association with Marvel, the comic is unfortunately littered with plugs for various Marvel superhero comics and properties, of which I have little interest. Hopefully the trade that collects this six issue run will dispense with them.
I'm a big fan of the Alien universe and I've enjoyed just about every one I've read. This is only the first one in the series but it's off to a good start!
Not really much here to pull me in. As a new reader of the Marvel series, I felt like I never really engaged with the characters. Maybe there is a history here I am missing.
We all know the basic story of the Xenomorphs, but it is fun to see new ways of how this creatures terror the universe and that family is all that matters
