It wouldn't be Canterwood without a healthy dose of jealousy. But one girl's healthy is another girl's headache, and Lauren is about to get the world's biggest migraine. Just when dust has finally begun to settle, Lauren's past is suddenly in her present. And she must remember that at Canterwood, nothing is ever as simple as it seems.
Jessica Burkhart is the author of the best-selling Canterwood Crest series which has sold over 1.6 million copies in multiple languages. She has also written the Unicorn Magic series, the YA novel Wild Hearts, and edited a YA anthology--Life Inside My Mind.
Frankly, I am quite disappointed in this series. Sasha’s stories contained much more drama than Lauren’s, and I am in this for the DRAMA. Or else I would have stopped reading this a long time ago. Anyway, my first thought was how suspicious it was that Drew and Taylor were actually getting along. I mean, they seemed pretty genuine, but I feared that once Lauren wasn’t around, they’d throw down. But they didn’t, which made it even worse!! Yay, they broke out of the “guys fighting over a girl they both like” stereotype, but I really wanted that to apply to them, to spice things up a bit. *sigh* And wasn’t it just harsh when Lauren yelled at Taylor in the beginning of the book? I know Lauren was angry, and she had a right to be, but she shoved Taylor away when he came all the way from Union to see her. Of course, he was really becoming a student there, but she didn’t know that, and for both of them to get hurt that special night… not right. Then there was Ana and Brielle, who seemed to be secret-keeping. It reminded me a little too much of what was going on between my long-distance best friends as well, and whatever Taylor’s secret had been, I had thought they weren’t simply keeping it, I thought they also had moved on from having Lauren as their BFF. Also, I had this really stupid theory somewhere in the middle of the book that Brielle and Taylor were dating, and that was the secret that all three of them were keeping. But it didn’t make sense. I mean, it was sure implied and I think Jessica Burkhart wanted us to falsely believe so, because it worked. There was that text message Brielle sent Taylor, asking him to call her that Lexa thought was threatening to Lauren and then there was the voicemail Ana left Lauren, saying, “You really need to talk to Brielle and Taylor.” That made me wonder… in that picture Lauren was sent, Taylor’s arms were around Brielle’s shoulders. So you could see how I thought maybe they had been dating, and Taylor had broken up with Brielle to get with Lauren when he moved to Canterwood. But I didn’t understand why they would keep it a secret. Was Brielle that heartbroken? Then, somehow I knew Brielle was in the car’s backseat, that a lump of blanket was suspicious, and I wasn’t surprised that two of Lauren’s Union friends were moving to Canterwood. Hopefully it will spur more drama, because there hasn’t been enough lately. It seemed unlikely that strict Canterwood would have allowed a non-family member to visit Lauren on Family Day… unless that girl was there to stay! When Lauren caught Brielle and Taylor fighting, and they both said words that added to my suspicions, I thought they were totally dating, 100%, and that they were bitter exes. Especially with the way Brielle began her explanation of why Taylor was mad at her. At the end of it all, I was shocked by my misjudgement and wanted to do a face-palm. And I thought Lauren was naïve for being too trusting… *shakes head*
I kind of felt like this book was pointless. It's all about the aftermath of Masquerade, so there wasn't really much drama with Taylor. He wanted Lauren back but barely tried to convince her, which I appreciated for him being respectful, however it made for a boring plot line. Then, the book ends with literally the exact same plot twist as Masquerade. I noticed in this book that the school year is very inconsistent. Book 6-12 overlap with book 13-16, however, in Sasha's books they have homecoming and a fall break at the end of September I think, whereas Lauren never does either of those things. Not really a big deal but just something I noticed.
I'm not exactly sure how to feel about this book. It was good, I guess. Kinda makes me want to read the entire series. But the characters are the same age as me, and they act like those people in modern Indian books who act western to seem trendy. I just wish the characters were older, or they acted their age. But this is weirdly intriguing.
“lauren, your birthday wish isn’t coming true tonight.” drew just slapped lauren 5 times from this alone. beat her at track 10 times. beat her at swimming 15 times. slapped her ex-bf another 10 times.
ALSO, i didn't know they were DATING??? they never said they were or am i missing something. because shouldn't you ask someone to be your significant other? do going on dates mean dating??? and if they're dating, why is lauren so concerned about taylor? i get they're FRIENDS, but she constantly says she likes drew, but is somehow thinking of taylor.
“lacey and raquel are nice, but neither of them are the girl that i’m interested in.” ...“right. mutual breakup.” drew is so right. taylor... the flag is waving and it's red.
this book is where my favorite scene from the entire series. it's perfect. the only reason why i'm rereading these books in the first place. IT'S THE SWIMMING SCENE. don't get me started. drew sharing his love of swimming AND teaching her how to dive AND... it was just perfect.
“it was brielle. she wrote, ‘i really miss you. you didn’t call last night.’” no, lexa. you were onto something... 100%.
sasha and her lip smacker addiction.
no, because why is everyone transferring to canterwood for...
this book was really boring. nothing to it. i was supposed to finish it the day i started, but then i got lazy and the book was really boring, so i just stopped reading it altogether.
Laurens past is suddenly her present. Tay has appeared at Canterwood and KISSED LT on her Birthday. Laur's Birthday wish was that Drew would kiss her. She thought that the anounymous person had been Drew. But when Tay had kissed her, she knew that something was off. She had pushed him away and the pulled him off the cariage and given him a serious talk. But Tay still thinks that he and LT make a good pair. He even said NO to Lacey and Raquel when they asked him. Tay won't give up. But LT wants to stay with Drew. She really likes Drew. Laur tells Drew everything that happened. Drew had the same thought that Lauren did. Drew wanted to kiss Laurbell on her Birthday. But he wanted it to be special. LT thought that Drew would break up with her. But Drew wanted it to be special for both of them. But because of Taylor, he didn't want their firsg kiss to be like that. He wanted it to happen on a special night for both of them. Where he would be the first person to kiss Laur. But LT didn't understand. He wouldn't be the FIRST one to kiss her. After that, Drew and Laur danced for a long time. And Zack and KK were adorable together. They had been dancing almost the whole night. Laurbells Birthday wish finally came true. Like other times, Drew had asked Laur if they wanted to workout again. But this time they wouldn't be jogging, they would be swimming. It was now or never... At the swimming pool, Drew began teaching Laur how to dive. He thinks that diving would help her get over her fear of her accident. He made her dive over and over again. At the last dive, Laur thought that Drew thought that she was unteachable, but she actually dove. Drew was so proud of Laur. "Words couldn't describe how I felt. But something else could. I wrapped my arms over Drew's shoulders, and before I could do it, he kissed me. Even in the warm pool, all the hair stood up on my arms. His soft lips on mine made me feel like I'd never been kissed-at least nog like this. I forgot to tread water for a second, holding on to him, then I remembered I'd probably drown us both if I stopped. We pulled apart for a few seconds, and I looked into his eyes. He had this little-boy grin on his face. "It seemed appropriate that our first kiss was in the pool," I said. "It would seem appropriate that our second one would be too," Drew said. Leaning forward, I kissed my then-without-a-doubt boyfriend for the second time that morning."
I was a bit worried about the book, I am not a fan of love triangles, and with the ending of the last book, I was thinking this would be totally about Lauren x Taylor x Drew. Thankfully, the author didn't do that. Lauren was quite clear, towards both boys, what she thought of them. Drew is her love interest and she tells him everything, while she is pissed at Taylor and doesn't want anything more. I was so happy that she made it clear. Sure, there was some tension, but Lauren stays honest, never does anything bad or makes a move on Taylor. Oh no, instead she just sticks to Drew and they have quite a lot of romance going on. <3 <3
I am also going to stick to what I said before in other reviews, and I will also mention it when I am done with the last book in this series (unless they magically bring some more books, which would be great, but I don't have high hopes). The ages. These girls are supposedly 12/13.... well I don't believe one effing thing of that. These girls act as 15/16, they have romances that way way to advanced to be of that of a child (as I would say a 12 year old is that), they wear make-up, and there are just so many other parts that I feel like the author maybe missed updating the ages, or forgot about the ages. Sorry, 12/13 and romance + make-up and various other stuff. No, I just don't believe that, so I will be seeing these girls for the real ages they are, 15 to 16. As that is what I feel is more real.
I so disliked Taylor in this book, especially in the beginning. What did he think, that Lauren would just jump in his arms? That she would scream: Yes! when she saw him? That she would be happy? I am sorry dude, it has been a long time, you both broke up and stayed friends, you just don't kiss a girl after so many months and such a break-up. That is just a no-no.
The ending sure was a surprise, and while I loved it, it also felt fake. I was like rolling my eyes. Oh how coincidental, another person transferring, and it is that person. *sighs* But I am also looking forward to seeing that person roam around Canterwood Crest.
All in all though, this was one book that will go into the Best Books Of This Series category.
Again, this is one of those books where I read a lot of the series but I wasn't quite able to finish because of losing touch with the books. Canterwood Crest is a series that I began reading in middle school and as you can see, there are over twenty books in the whole series. These books are really for middle school teenagers to read, but I wanted to try and finish them this summer because I did enjoy reading them and I loved the story line. I don't know if I would say that I recommend reading these to fellow high school students, because of the maturity level, but they're just a personal favorite of mine.
I love the Canterwood series. Lauren's a great narrator, with her humor, pickup lines, and thoughts. I enjoyed this addition very much! Drew made a great jump to becoming likeable, and with characters from Lauren's past, made it even more dramatic, in a good way. Soon, when the series is done, it's going to be time to let go of the only preteen series I read, and concentrate on more mature matter, in that case. ;)
I hate to say it, but this book was extremely short. Probably the smallest CCA book yet. There was barely any "drama" in it. It was not what I was expecting. And, what happened to the "New foreign exchange girl"? Or "testing for the advanced team"? There wasn't any of that. Overall, the book was pretty good. I just don't get why the Lauren books are so short but the Sasha books were way longer.
This book picks up where the last book ended Taylor kissing LT what is going on there will old sparks trigger and push drew out of the picture or will Dren be In full bloom, their are many twist and turns in LTs life such as.. Well I'm not going to spoil it! Read it guys from the begging from Take the Reins -CCya
I really feel like the author missed some opportunities for some great drama in here. Lauren is waaaay too honest about things and kills drama before it even THINKS about budding. Oh guilty pleasure books, I am glad your series is almost at an end.
This is a wonderful plot lined book! I'm so glad Lauren got together with Drew, but the problems with the past was just as exciting! I'm glad to have Sasha back in the picture, but it's weird not having it in her point of view. Still an amazing book and series, can can't wait for the next one!
Okay. So Taylor being there was kind of anti-climactic. And why was Larcey..(Lacey?) so weird about the Taylor thing? Lauren just told her what she knew. There was no reason to spread rumours. Some of the stuff in this is too exaggerated. Not all of the girls would believe Larcey/Lacey.
This is another book from my favorite serie on the whole entire universe. In this book, Lauren thinks Khloe is a bit jealous of her, but actually, SHE gets a bit jealous of Khloe
This series was a childhood favorite of mine! Looking back, it's pretty terrible. But I loved it as a kid and it made me appreciate books more, so that's what matters!
Jealousy is really good book. There is a lot that happens in this one book and it is almost overwhelming. I don't usually like when the book is overwhelming but this was different. There was never a slow part in the book, and it was always full of exciting drama. I would recommend this book to people who like non-stop action, and a book packed with drama and gossip.
Honestly, the first few books were pretty good. This and all the others behind it don’t really qualify as ‘good’ becuase they don’t have a problem or anything like any other book. I feel like the author had to write these finishing books with no problems or difficulties in them. Don’t get me wrong, I like all the books, just this is boring without a problem.
