Imogen can see the future, not that it does her much good.

When ancient spirits haunt her, seeking re-entry into the human world, she struggles for answers. Yet, it's only after the spirits succeed in using Imogen's body as their new vessel that her real journey to save the Earth begins.

Imogen's gift makes her vulnerable to spirits that desire reincarnation. When she moves back to Graydon, she begins a new life. And Imogen's new boyfriend, Rafe, seems to know more about her powers than she does... Once another psychic informs Imogen of her impending death, she tries everything she can think of to prevent it, even as she knows her fate is inevitable.

Once she's dead, Imogen's true test of character is how she can stop the body-thieving demons from destroying all of mankind.

Red Harvey brings this paranormal horror story together with surprises, humor, and old clichés turned on their heads. Readers hunting for a paranormal read with a Buffy-esque twist are sure to enjoy Cursed.

I'm a writer of speculative fiction, and a sociable nerd.

As you read this, I'm probably sitting at my computer in Atlanta, glad to be in a city full of life, inspiration, and at times, full of questionable places and people.

Currently, I'm at work on my sixth novel set on a distant world with not-so-distant characters.

CURSED by Red Harvey (Urban fantasy/Horror)

With a few titles under her name Red Harvey released CURSED (Urban fantasy/Horror) February 2013. This is the first book I have read of Ms. Harvey’s and even as a self published author, her writing chops are solid and the book reads like a mainstream release.

The author took Native American lore mixed with her own version of The Garden of Eden and created a new Urban Fantasy world. The story is threaded with Horror that provided tense moments AND had me checking under the bed before I fell asleep last night. Very well done!

There were a few pacing issues and a few areas I would have wanted developed (my taste) but utterly forgivable with such a solid, well thought out storyline. I am also guessing by the ending that we will see more of Red Harvey and her heroine Imogen.

I grew up reading these types of books and I’m excited to see the next generation of author (Indie or otherwise) tackle a genre that has been dominated by names like Stephen King and Anne Rice for decades.

This is a great quick read. It's not the type of book I usually read, but I enjoyed it a lot. The story kept you wondering til the very end. This is the first book I've read by this author but I'd love to try another.

I came upon this book by accident, and I'm glad I did. Some parts felt a bit rushed, but I liked the dialogue and the new rules of vampires/demons the author created.

*Have to add this after reading other reviews on this book: I'm a Christian, and this book didn't offend me. There was a part that tried to be True Blood gory, but it wasn't too bad. By the end of the book, the character's views on God change, just like the character herself changes.

I found myself enjoying this story despite an awkward start. Imogene is likeable as the only surviving of three sisters, cursed with the ability to see into the future. She finds happiness in Rafe, but because of their ancestry they become the victims of two ancient demons seeking to reincarnate. Imogene is "radically changed" (trying to avoid a spoiler here), and the pace picks up considerably as she finds herself taking on the role of an international demon hunter. Things get pretty gruesome, and there is one scene of sexual depravity that probably rivals anything out there. Also an interesting interpretation of the Garden of Eden story. The latter part of the book reminded me a bit of Mike Carey's "The Devil You Know" but with a heroine.

It does need another round of editing, though the typos are not as frequent as some indie books I've seen. Also, the POV switches back and forth from first to third in various scenes (I've seen other authors do this as well, but it doesn't work for me). Despite these issues, I liked this book and its complex, innocent-turned-naughty main character. The author demonstrates some good writing chops, but needs a better editor next time.

Well I really thought this was going to be a good read but I found it hard to get into. She starts out with an antagonistic view of God. Or Satan for that matter she believes in luck. I'm a Christian and this immediately turns me off this book. Its real uncomfortable to read after I realise our beliefs don't coincide. Then she goes on to say she can read your future by looking in your eyes but when she see's Rafe at her sisters funeral she see's a black void. Then it conveniently shows Rafe again as her lover and husband. So the author is already a hypocrite. Her ease of accepting Rafe now puts me at odds because she does it too easy. Then she gets pregnant... I must of missed a part where they actually had sex. So I tossed the book aside. No rating it.

I really enjoyed this story, but there really needs to be a sequel.

Imogen has the power (or curse) to see the future, but is not able to prevent the deaths of her sisters. After returning home after the death of her sister, Imogen rekindles a friendship with Rafe. I don't want to give the book away, so I'm not going to go into much more detail.

There was an interesting blend of folk lore mixed in with the vampire/zombie demons. As well, the bickering between Imogen and Rosalind provided some funny moments (younger sisters can be so annoying).

Some good ideas, but not a good execution. The writing was choppy and the whole thing lacked atmosphere. I didn't care about the characters, and the paranormal elements felt forced and inconsistent. I didn't get very far with this book.

LOVED this book! Can't go wrong with a strong female lead (even if she is in a borrowed body).
Hope there is more in this series, the characters were really likeable and I would enjoy reading more of their story.

Feels like there should be a sequel. I felt like there was more to Imogen and Rafe's story.

This book was a decent read. Unfortunately I lost a bit of interest in it throughout the second half. Not that it was bad, but I think it would have been better as novellas than a single book. It felt disjointed in a way when Imogen transitioned. I did enjoy it in spite of that feeling.

*I received a copy of this book for free. The review is my own, honest and unsolicited.
