Blood is power. Since the world froze and the humans died off, blood has become scarce. There’s barely enough to sustain the vampire population, even though their masses have dwindled. Many vampires are reduced to the measly few drops of blood rationed to them by the Regent, which is enough to keep them alive, barely. It’s survival; an undesirable existence.

Before the world froze, before the humans slaughtered each other in their wars, blood was ample and rich. The odds of feeding from an infected human, one with weakened blood, was rare, but now it is normal. Every human within the palace walls is anemic. Though they tried, the Regent was not able to curb the severity of the disease. Their humans became sickly, growing weaker and weaker until they were so fragile that a single scrape could kill them.

The weakened blood means an unstable source of food, but there have been other repercussions—things no one saw coming. As time passed, fangs retreated, reflections appeared, and light was no longer destructive. Vampires can now walk in the full sunlight without turning to ash. Too many generations have passed. Many vampires cannot remember a time when blood flowed richly, when vampires did not have to abstain and endure a slow starvation.

One human can change everything. One human can restore the old ways and return vampires to their former glory—Kahli—but the girl escaped. Blood is power, and the vampire who finds Kahli first will have all the power.

Don't bother. Author abandoned series YEARS ago.

This book was great. I loved it- YEARS AGO- and I was previously very excited for book 3, as it had a publish date of 2012. Not so. I held out hope but it's 2015... The author lost interest, moved on, and wrote an endless stream of soap opera sex novels. This isn't the first series she's abandoned. Thus faithful readers are left wondering with false hope and empty promises. My advice-don't buy/read it... there isn't any more and it leaves you hanging.

Unfortunately, this author seems to have a habit of starting a book that is obviously unfinished and intended as a part of a series- and then abandoning projects for something new. She gets readers for the abandoned ideas/ books with promises of future books that never come to fruition. She leaves readers who cared about her creations hoping, waiting, and then abandoned.

Ward, starts so many books, and rushes to publish them all immediately (why?), that she can't/ won't keep up with preexisting early stories even though her readers love them and the interest is there. I loved these 2 books, however, my disappointment with the author and her flakey and nonexistent follow through = rating drop from a would-be.be 5 to a 1. TBH- Zero if I could for feeling I wasted my time and money.

She needs to commit to her readers as she promises instead of continuing to pump out unfinished works, clearly meant to be parts of series'. (Other than the ONE "soap opera" series she finally committed to writing endlessly about.)

Extremely dissatisfied. Wish I hadn't invested ANY time and money into the first two (oops, I mean ONLY two) books of this abandoned "series".

Kahli had to fight for everything in her life, surviving by eliminating the trackers and wolves that pursued her, struggling to keep her freedom. Fleeing the castle, it is now a game of cat and mouse to see how long she can evade the King and Queen of the Vampires who are in pursuit. Kahli trusts that Will will keep her safe as they have an understanding now and she feels like she can depend on him to help her reach safety. Will is still keeping dangerous secrets from her which could easily destroy this new found trust in him and it is only a matter of time before the truth comes out. Sophia wants her blood to retain her power but the King wants to drain her to take control and there is nowhere left to hide. Cole and Cassie are caught up in the rebellion and they could pay with their lives if they don't escape the castle in time. Being betrayed by someone she trusts leaves Kahli feeling crushed, wondering how she could have misjudged the situation and she finally learns whether her betrothed is alive or dead and the answer may not be the one she is looking for. I really like this series as Kahli is a strong kick ass woman who takes no prisoners and is not your whiny angst ridden character, she is gutsy and loyal to a fault. These pages are action packed and there is never a dull moment so I always devour these books in a matter of hours and this one is no exception.

A.R.C. I'm the queen of them. ;D

Kahli, the kick-butt redhead, returns in book #2 of the Vampire Apocalypse series by H.M. Ward. :)

The main conflict in this book is an amusing, dangerous one. Everyone either wants to kill Kahli or capture her. Sounds like fun right? 'Yay! I get to run for my life! Later suckers!'

Kahli was kick-butt in this book. She pissed a lot of people off, gave awesome retorts, and-well-was Kahli. ;D There were hilarious parts in this book, romance parts, and action scenes that I adored. :)

The ending was wicked cool. I can't say much since it's not out yet, but it was FREAKING AWESOME! Though now I'm a bit mad at one character. >:( *shrug* You'll figure out who when you read it. :)

There was this one part..It. Was. FREAKING. HIL-AR-I-OUS! I was laughing so hard I started coughing and tearing up. I can't wait for you to read that part. You'll LOVE it. If you don't, you don't have a sense of humor. -_-

I recommend to pre-teens, teens, and girl and boys alike. Ages 11-19 will enjoy this action and humor packed vampire book. :)

Since Bane was my favorite vampire book for 2012 I was highly anticipating the sequel Catalyst. I was sooo excited to get an ARC!! I feel like the story was written so well. Very put together. In other words, Catalyst was awesome! It picks up where Bane left off. Kahli and Will have escaped and are trying to recover from the crash. I love that Kahli and Will had to talk about their relationship. It turned out different then I thought. But, I loved Will in Bane and was glad that they finally had some time to figure things out. Kahli's view of Will has changed since Bane. I think she is staring to understand him a little more. They also had to figure out what they plan was. Go back to the palace? Continue running? Or kill some vampires??

Kahli is still the kick butt heroine in every form of the word. A fierce fighter, who cares for the human race and saving her friends. Even if it means she may not live. Heroine is the perfect word to describe Kahli. She's not an annoying girl who has to chose between who she will love or which clothes to wear for the day. She has to try to stay alive from day to day. It's like a breath of fresh air reading her story! Finally someone worthy of being a heroine!!!! Cassie turns out to have a pretty kick butt streak too!

I still love Will. He risked a lot to save Kahli numerous times. We get to learn a little more about Will's back story in Catalyst. Woohoo! Turns out he has some secrets! As do a majority of the characters in this series. Which is awesome! I love how the story is in different character perspectives too. You really get to know how every feels. Which also lead to finding out more secrets. The other young man I was taken with was Cole. I found myself really enjoying his parts of the story as well. He seems like a really great guy. Given the state of the world. Now his secret is a mind blower! And trust me, saying that is not a spoiler. You have no idea...seriously. I was like O_O NO WAY! Celticad turns out to be a pretty cool bad guy. Anyone who can stand up to the King like that is pretty awesome. Even if he's on the wrong team. I just had to say that.

If you couldn't tell by my review, this one is a must read!!! Just like the first book I enjoyed Catalyst a lot! Yes, this still remains my favorite vampire series of the year!! If you are looking for a different kind of vampire book with a twist then this is it.

What can I say about this book besides it is way better than the first!! I couldn't put this book down unless I had to! There is so many twists and turns in the book it will leave you wanting more. There were times when I wanted to strangle a certain character, not to name names Will! What a jerk! Yet he can be a sweetheart. Then there is Kahli we get to know more about her and some of her strengths. Who knew a wild girl could be loyal to someone she just met? She is one strong female that I'd love to read more about. Also, we get introduced to some new Vampires, and humans, and get to know more about the end of the world vampire society. I love this book and I can't wait til the 3rd book comes out! I hope it is soon.

I didn't even know this was out until I was browsing on my kindle. I was glad to come across this, purchased it right away and read it within a few hours. More action, more spunk, more secrets, you'll never really know who's your ally or your enemy. It broke my heart at the end when Kahli realized Will wasn't on her side, then again, maybe he is. I definitely can't wait until the 3rd one. December couldn't come soon enough

I enjoyed this as much as the first! I love all of the characters, even the villains. There's lots of vampire action in this post-apocalyptic world. There's romance but it doesn't overpower the story. I do smell a love triangle coming up in the next book, which I'm looking forward to.

Great continuation of the series... Looking forward to the next one!

I don't understand the 1-star reviews that were left before the book was even released. Seriously? WTH? I think I'm liking this series even better than Demon Kissed, the authors last series - which was also awesome.

I love these books and I will say this book is even better then the first one. There is so much action in this book, there is drama, suspense, romance, betrayal, and secrets uncovered. I love Kahli and Will together, I loved the time they spent together. I thought Cassie was great in this book, so strong. Cole does not thrill me, yes he is a great brother but I do not feel any chemistry with him and Kahli. I love how Kahli goads Reggie, I think it is so funny how she can get under his skin. I think Kahli is so tough and smart, what she did at the end of this book was perfect. What else happened at the end of this book broke my heart, I have to admit I am confused, I don't really understand what this all means and I feel so sick about it because I love him and I hate the thought of him being evil and I hope that there is another explanation. I love all of Holly's books and the other series I read all the time is The Arrangement, I just got done reading the most recent one number 13 and I was devastated by that ending and now a day later and I am devastated by this ending, I think she is trying to break my heart into a million pieces and I might not recover.

DISCLAIMER TO MY FELLOW GOODREADER
This review is my personal opinion and may contain: spoilers, quotes, rants, cussing (sometimes I cannot help myself) and a possible full on recap. I in no way want to ruin anyone’s book reading experience so please read my words with caution.

Kahli barely survived the King drinking from her and trying to claim her as his. Will is able to save her but had to give her his blood, now they are bonded. Will is able to hide what's going on inside of his mind better than Kahli. My guess (if it is correct) is that whatever Will's end game is will be MASSIVE and probably shocking. He wants to kill the King and Queen..

This story had 5 intertwining points of view and different plans set in motion with very similar purposes. Which side will you choose when the facts are growing to be more murky by the minute?

Cliffhanger – yes (book 2 series)
POV - Kahli, Will, Cole, Cassie, the Queen and the King

Book 2
YA Post Apocalyptic

Book 2 of this series is a build up book. Kahli has recently escaped the King , who was trying to rape and kill her by draining all of her blood. Will , a vampire human hybrid , followed her to save her from the elements outside the palace and from the royals. Will and Kahli attractions for each other grows , and she is a moment away from being bitten and bonded to Will until .... she is once again captured.

At the palace, all of the bloods slaves, Cole , Cassie and Brent among others are preparing for The Pairing. A ceremony were they are forced into "breeding"and securing a new generation of fresh blood slaves.

At the conclusions of this book.... everyone is escaping the place and running for their lives. Will allegiance and loyalty to Kahli is in question. Does he have her back or , is he playing both sides ? Cole and Kahli discover they were pledges to marry at birth , so this adds another twist.

Now we wait for the next book.........

I loved this one, it was most definitely my favorite so far and it felt way longer than any other of the novels. I knew there was something fishy about Cole from the beginning and I can't believe Will betrayed her. I honestly wish it was December already, so I could have the third novel in the series!

More Please!

More Please!

Not too scary, but tense at times, this book would be suitable for young adult readers. It has a steady pace, but the depth of each character seems shallow or hollow at times. I hope Divergent will give more in-depth character development and resolve the story.

Great characters! You have strong Kahli, who has to survive by eliminating the ones chasing her in order to stay free. She must evade the vampires. However, can she trust her ally to keep her safe? All the while a rebellion is taking place and the other characters are at risk. Great action and suspense!!!
