Jag hade turen att få höra Mietek Grocher prata när jag gick på gymnasiet. Den upplevelsen har etsat sig fast hos mig. Jag minns att jag grät i omgångar vilket förstärktes av att Mieteks känslor när han återigen berättade om sitt liv under Andra världskriget, specifikt under tiden spenderad i ghetto och olika koncentrationsläger. Jag köpte inte boken då men jag har velat läsa den ända sen dess. Så nu, sisådär 10 år senare, fick mitt bibliotek gräva fram boken ur sitt magasin.
Är man intresserad (gud, intresserad känns som helt fel ord eftersom att det är ett så hemskt ämne) av Andra världskriget och specifikt att läsa om olika människoöden kan jag definitivt rekommendera Jag överlevde!. Det är såklart väldigt tungt och känslosamt under stora delen av boken men Mietek har skrivit på ett väldigt tillgängligt sätt.
Nazisten som slet ett barn mitt itu framför modern är något jag inte ens kan föreställa mig, det är så fruktansvärt vidrigt. Likaså föräldrarna som kastade ut sina egna barn från brinnande hus i ghettot (efter bombningar) eftersom det var en bättre död än vad som annars stod att vänta. Det hände så enormt grymma och onda saker att det är svårt att förstå, därför är dessa konkreta exempel något jag fortfarande kommer ihåg tio år efter att jag hörde Mietek berätta.

Det är så att man kan läsa väldigt många böcker kring förintelsen och trots det lyckas varje bok ändå föra någonting nytt som man inte visste. Denna bok handlade väldigt mycket om tiden i ghettot, vilket inte är någonting som jag vet väldigt mycket om utan de flesta böcker brukar förintelselägren vara det viktiga i boken. Jag har hört Mietek Grocher tala förut, och ända sedan dess har jag haft boken på min hylla men det är först nu som jag tog mig i kragen och läste den. Den har sina fel, språket är inte alltid det bästa och den går inte in på mycket detaljer men den är ändå väl värd att läsa och en bok som jag tyckte om.

I have never read a holocaust account of a survivor about to actually get gassed. That astounded me. He was ment to die there, in the gaschamber of the first concentration camp, yet he lived! He saw his chance and took it, and lived to slave away at eight more concentration camps before he finally was a free man.
An interesting account of a survivor that taught me something new (Did you know German soldiers were given blood from young Jews?).

Boken är inte skriven för att vara ett litterärt underverk, den finns för att påminna och bevara en människas hemskt plågade minne om sitt liv. Absolut läsvärt, borde ställas på hyllan i varje skolbibliotek i Sverige.

This book is about a survivor´s of the holocaust and all of the things he had to experience. This is a biography about him, and it was very emotional to read, because all of the things he talks about has happened for real. I felt for him and his family even more because he came to my school a couple years ago and told us about his story. He is such a strong and inspiring person to have the strength to talk about this horrible time he experienced. He does it so that what happened to the jews, and other people, during WW2 will never be forgotten. I bought his book after he spoke to us, and he signed it very sweetly to all who did. I will never forget his story because meeting him made all that you learn in school become a reality that seems to unreal to understand.
Reading this book I could not comprehend some of the things that happened because they ware to horrible. I can not understand how humans can do this to one another. The strength he had to survive this while many others didn’t is a miracle.
Some of the places that he mentions I have visited. He talks about a concentration camp called Sachsenhausen, and I visited it with my classmates on a trip to Germany. The feeling there was indescribable, you could feel the horror that had happened there like the feelings was etched to the place. At one point going into the infirmary where the guide told us of the horrid things that had happened if felt like I was going to throw up.
Mietek also mentions a city witch he came to after the war when he want to Sweden. That city is Köping, my home town, and I am happy that he liked Sweden so much. He says in his book that after all of the terrible things and despite he had to endure it would be nice with some kindness and that is why he chose to go to Sweden. He lives in a city close to Köping called Västerås and knowing that he has been at these places where I have been and grown up, made it even more real.
I think that everyone who knows Swedish should read this book, because the impact and the message of it is so huge and important. Sadly I believe it is only available in Swedish, otherwise I would recommend everyone to read this.

This book is amazing. The things that have happened are terrible. Unimaginably cruel things. I could go on and on about these unhuman doings but I'm going to focus more on Mitek. He was 12 when WW2 started. He lived through hell, miracles and tragedies. When the war was over he was 18 years old, weighed 24 kilos, and had been in 9 concentration camps. I'm amazed, especially since I've met him, how he has no hatred. The strength he had to have his whole family killed and keep going. He is now around 80-90 years old now and he still tears up talking about his mom. Anyway long review sorry.

Världens värsta må-bra bok om Mietek som jag har ett personligt band med från min sida. Underbar människa som borde fått ett lyckligare liv, men som gjorde det bästa av det liv han fått. Genom att berätta sin otroliga historia om hur han överlevde Förintelsen. Hans mamma dog i gaskammaren i Majdanek, hans bror och syster dog i Auschwitz och hans pappa dog av en fallande bomb. Mietek kom till Sverige och lever än idag och fortsätter berätta det viktiga som står skrivet i den här boken.
