Love at first woof. When Denver-based Were blogger and founder of Honoring of Werewolf Legacy (HOWL) Kate Stillman agrees to take on political “bad boy” Duncan MacDowell in a public debate about werewolf segregation, she’s confident she'll sail through the challenge without letting down her guard.
And what can go wrong while hanging out with the sexy Scottish founder of Werewolves Optimizing Our Future (WOOF) long enough to convince him his views on interspecies mating are mistaken? Plenty, when Kate discovers that she’s actually wildly attracted to her opponent—who by all accounts prefers dating human women!
But what hope can there be when this irresistible werewolf-with-a-cause believes their future depends on Kate losing the argument?
New York Times and USA Today bestseller Vicki Lewis Thompson believes love makes the world go around and laughter makes the trip worth taking. The recipient of RWA’s Nora Roberts Lifetime Achievement Award and the author of more than ninety books, Vicki pioneered a new kind of romance hero with Nerd in Shining Armor. Following the success of her nerd stories, Vicki launched a boisterous paranormal series featuring a matchmaking witch and wizard, an ADD dragon named George, and a black cat inspired by her own precocious feline, Eve.
Rushing to start the next book in the series I forgot to list my reading. Thompson always manages to deliver smiles while reading. Never to heavy on drama but does pull punches on bringing a light hearted paranormal romance.
The Wild About You books are some of the cutest werewolf novels that I have ever read and Werewolf in Denver is my favourite one so far. I loved the blogger / social media backbone behind this one. Perhaps not all readers will connect with the story line as I did because not everyone's a book blogger but I think that the tech savvy werewolves will appeal to many on some level, especially in today's gadget-ized world. I enjoyed the back-and-forth between the main couple in this installment; their jabs at each other are of an almost political nature which is a refreshing change from the usual "opposite personalities attract" story line. Werewolf in Denver is chick lit with fur and an entertaining way to escape reality.
The blogger / social media aspect immediately hooked me from the get-go. I love the fact that Vicki Lewis Thompson created a Twitter hashtag for her first annual werewolf conference and how the two debate leaders went at it online and face-to-face. I also enjoyed the celebrity gossip news articles peppered throughout the book; they added another level of quirkiness to an already fun read. The opening chapters were the perfect set-up to bring Kate and Duncan together on the romantic front and helped to add a level of credibility to their insta-romance that so many other paranormal romance books lack.
I enjoyed the chemistry between this installment's leading couple and that their budding relationship encountered many bumps along the way. It wouldn't have been very believable otherwise. Debate leaders with extremely opposing views on a sensitive issue ignoring their values for a one night stand is one thing but when put into the context of a lasting relationship? Not so much. I was really pleased with how Lewis developed Kate and Duncan's romance. I also appreciated the way that Vicki went there with regards to human/human and wolf/wolf sex. Not many authors can pull off such a feat without coming across as somewhat of a weirdo. Lewis does a phenomenal job of making the sex hot no matter what form the characters are in.
The author does an excellent job of ensuring that enough werewolf elements are included in the story line. That was one of my main complaints in previous installments of this series. Why write about weres if you're not going to make them do actual wolf-like things? Lewis succeeded in creating a nice balance between both sides of the characters' natures and, as a result, this is my favourite Wild About You book to date. The hilarious dialogue and outrageous terms definitely helped too!
I made quick work of Werewolf in Denver and am anxiously awaiting Werewolf in Alaska scheduled for release next summer.
Rating 3.5 stars A light, fluffy read. The heroine believes in were-were mating while the hero believes that weres should be allowed to mate with humans and the secrecy should end. After fighting online for months these two meet at the first Were conference and become stranded, loads of banter, sex and they end up together but still believe in an opposite cause.
I honestly don't have a lot to say about this. The whole book spans a total of 3 days. So when I say insta-love, I mean they are having sex the first day they meet face to face. In this incredibly convenient cabin, that Kate (our heroine) just happens to know the owner of. And this cabin just so happens to have a bedroom with a canopy with a mirror installed and mood lighting. Don't forget that they happen to have porn and a sexy bathroom too. I mean really? I need to find a cabin like that to break into next time I get into a car accident over snow and don't want to get frostbite since I'm a hot-blooded WEREWOLF.
Yeah.
Not saying I expected to take this book seriously. It's clearly not meant for that. There was a lot of unnecessary drama as they were the leaders of two factions on opposing sides and *gasp* "Our followers might lose respect for us if we showed any interest in each other!" nonsense. Granted if that hadn't been there all those book would have been was sex. Though in all honestly there was a LOT of it. More than most romance novels I read.
I wasn't all that impressed with the main characters. I honestly found Kate pretty boring and Duncan was sweet and deliciously Scottish but it didn't hold my interest that well. It was an easy read but I kept finding myself putting it down to do other things. It was just ok.
As for the antagonist/villainry, all I can say is that I saw that coming a mile away.
The writing was cohesive and she has an interesting take on werewolves but I'm more interested in the next book: Werewolf in Alaska. After seeing Jake's anti-human views spewed all over this book I'm interested to read his self-hate when he falls in love with one in the next book.
Two werewolves meet after duking it out online as one leads a group that wants to keep werewolves traditional and the other a group that wants to date/marry humans.
What I enjoyed: * Silly humor, especially in the social media posts *
What could have been better: * Insta-love. They had sex the day they met * The whole conflict between the two groups really didn't have a middle ground and it was weird that women preferred one side and men the other.
3.5 Stars. It was a cute and entertaining read, but I'm not a huge fan of "fated love" or "insta-mate" kinds of romance, and this was a bit too dependent on that trope. It's one thing when the couple has an instant connection, and then put in the time to get to know each other. It's another when they are saying "I love you," and pledging their lives to one another two days after meeting. It usually doesn't bother me as much in paranormal stories, due to the magical nature of everything, but something just didn't work for me in this one.
I'm not a huge fan of this Author but when I read the book description it sounded good. Unfortunately about half way through I started to loose interest, I did finish it but never did regain my interest.
I love a good enemies-to-lovers story. This one is even better because they are supposed to be enemies as leaders of opposite factions, but they are fascinated with one another as they clash online. When they finally meet, it is so delicious. Then they get stuck in the snow. Then they have to keep their relationship a secret. Then they shift to wolves. Then they find out they have an enemy. There are so many excellent tropes going on here, but they fit together to make a terrific story with something exciting on every page. Underneath all this fun stuff, there are some serious issues going on. How do we decide important issues when both sides have valid concerns? How do we want out leaders to behave? How do the press and social media influence these things? HOw should we behave online towards people who hold opposite views? Except for the fact that the characters are werewolves, this could be a book about a political organization right now. I found these aspects very thought provoking. But at its heart, this is a very romantic book. There is a lot of chemistry between Duncan and Kate, and they explore that quite well. However, Kate doesn't believe in the concept of one true love, and she assumes that their opposing viewpoints will necessarily divide them. Duncan does believe, but some outside interference makes convincing Kate a battle. He fights for Kate literally and figuratively, and it is very swoony. In addition, we get cameos by characters from the previous books. I highly recommend this one!
Contemporary romances are not my jam, and while I used to love Vicki Lewis Thompson, I discovered I am no longer a fan. Everything was just too rushed and too contrived. There weren't any stakes regarding the relationship, and the conflict felt oddly manufactured after the first few chapters, especially since we pretty much only ever saw our heroes when they were getting along just fine.
Most of the characters that weren't Kate and Duncan felt dropped in to appease people who wanted to see what was going on with their favorites from previous books, or wedged in to act as heroes in future books.
Werewolf in Denver (Wild About You, #4) by Vicki Lewis Thompson..... Better the second time around..thanks so much Vicki.... This is the story of Kate Stillman (founder of HOWL ...Honoring our Werewolf Legacy) and Duncan MacDowell (founder of WOOF ...Werewolves Optimizing out Future). She believes Werewolves should only mate other Werewolves....he believes it is okay for Werewolves to mate with humans. They come face to face at WereCon 2012. There are a lot of laughs...steamy sex.. some intrigue... WOW....a few tears... and of course a great HEA.
Great addition to this series! Two wolf shifters on opposite sides, basically they just have different opinions about the future but they get a shock when they met and are instantly slammed with physical attraction. One of the things I really like about the shifters is their boldness when it comes to attraction, no beating around the bush or playing hard to get, lol and they also have a great support system and compassion for their pack. These two are stubborn and a lack of trust makes a mountain out of a mole hill causing them to lose focus not only on their connection but the betrayal from within. This test is a challenge for them and their packs and adds a little action to the plot. I like both characters and enjoyed reading their story....and of course love the kilt, lol.

Duncan MacDowell is heading up a group of weres called WOOF. Kate Stillman's group is called HOWL Duncan believes that you shouldn't just limit yourself to mating with another were. He thinks that it would be OK to mate with humans. Now Kate is in the other camp. She believes that weres should only mate with another were. Let the games begin. Added into their first convention is the ever present Angela Sapworthy, who writes for Wereworld Celebrity Watch and newshound blog. Another fun read in this series. Where everything does not go according to plans.
I probably would have like this more if I read it when it was 1st released but in 2019 I just hated Kate. Kate and her Howlers are just too reminiscent of white nationalists with their rhetoric of maintaining werewolf purity and protecting werewolf culture/tradition. Once you added in voting for a leader they knew nothing about just because he supported their cause... she's just to much like the bigots you see on the news today. Not willing to keep their small minded views to themselves, instead demanding everyone else follow them.
I did not find this entry in the Wild About You series as enthralling as the previous books. Although entertaining enough to hold my attention to the end, it was a bit of a slog. I don't think I liked the social media aspect of the story. I am not a fan in real life, so finding in my entertainment was off putting. The hotness level between the featured couple was there. There was some interesting twists and turns. Characters from the other books were also here, which I love to see in books. But that social media thing . . . Well, I am off to see what happens in Alaska.
First off, I absolutely loved the new 2018 edition cover of this book. (I don't think it's here on Goodreads yet).
This book was such fun. I want to be a Werewolf so I can open a Sniffer account. I'd still be @rukhimonster there no doubt.
If you've loved the Werewolf books so far, you'll definitely love this one too. But if you haven't, have no fear, I think you'd be fine reading it as a stand alone too.
This book definitely receives cheers of woof woof woof and howls from me!
Vicki Lewis Thompson is a true artist with words. It's a beautiful portrait she has painted for us with words displaying romantic suspense with some adventure and humor as well. I know I am guaranteed to truly enjoy her books every time. Pick up this copy and watch Duncan and Kate find that sometimes fate has different ideas than we might, but it can also be good to be wrong for the right reason.
Well I thoroughly enjoyed reading this one too. Love these characters and storylines so much. Kate and Duncan were total enemies until meeting in person. Then it all hit the fan. 🔥🔥🔥 These Were’s sure know how to get it done!! I loved this story. Can’t wait to read the next one. Jake Hunter is meh!! 🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰💜💜💜💜💜😊😊😊😊😊
This is a classic opposites attract story with a hairy twist. Duncan and Kate have very different views on the future of their species, but they soon find common ground in and out if the bedroom. I read an advanced copy of this book
Another great adventure. Wildly humorous, this book offers togetherness, creative banter amidst a growing love and unbridled passion between man and woman, were vs were. Never a dull moment.
Well it's confirmed opposition can cause high emotions!! Duncan and Kate's beliefs take on new meanings when they are stuck together to start with in a cabin because their truck got stuck in a snow drift! But wow does the heat steam!
Loved being able to see our old friends and meet new ones. I thought this was a great 4th book. It brought in themes and characters from the previous books and was still a fresh new take on this world.
Fun and funny! It's an easy, delightful read filled with wolf equivalents: Sniffs instead of Tweets. WereCon. Woofers and Howlers. I look forward to reading all the other books in the series.
It's been awhile since I've read a paranormal romance. I'm glad when I finally felt the urge, I picked this book from the TBR pile. It was a quick, fun, light-hearted read.
