Imprisoned and tortured by the demoness who tricked him into betraying the Nightkeepers and the woman he loves, Rabbit must endure excruciating pain to protect the diminished Skywatch army as the end-time approaches. Although an ancient prophecy says his unique powers are key to winning the final battle in the doomsday war, he hasn’t just lost his credibility—he’s lost his magic.

Myrinne is far from the woman Rabbit once knew—she’s got magic now, and despite emotional scars, she’s strong enough to help the Nightkeepers. And yet she’s not prepared to handle the fiercely driven man he’s become or the new, dangerous feelings that spark between them.

With the barrier ready to fall and a xombi outbreak in the human world, Rabbit and Myrinne must forge a new partnership amid dangerous instability and the threat of an undead army. In the end, it will be up to Rabbit to master his ferocious magic—or all will be lost. For him, for the woman he doesn’t have the right to love anymore, and for the fate of the world…

Imprisoned by the demoness who tricked him into betraying the Nightkeepers, Rabbit yearns to escape and prove himself to his fellow warriors and to Myrinne, the woman who has lost all faith in him. With the end of days rapidly approaching, Rabbit is rescued, but can the others trust him when his magic is divided and unstable? Why is he the key to winning the war and what sacrifices will the warriors have to make to ensure victory?

After the build up over the entire series toward the final battle with the Banal Kax, everything established in the first seven books is nullified and the resolution comes out of nowhere, lacks cohesion and is ultimately unsatisfying. It is as if Andersen ran out of steam and decided to wing it!

The romance is the worst in the series by far. Myrinne is and always has been an exceedingly unlikeable and selfish woman and Rabbit’s love for her is incomprehensible. That said, Rabbit is a wonderful hero and the manner in which he comes into his true powers and learns to accept himself is one of the only positive aspects of the book.

Anna’s sudden relationship with a doctor treating xombi victims comes out of nowhere and is underdeveloped. There is no foundation to their romance, no chemistry and no emotion.

The tidbits with the other Nightkeeper couples are enjoyable, but fail to compensate for the rest of the lackluster story.

All in all, a disappointing end to the series and it is a waste of exceptional world building and lore. I feel cheated.

Well Andersen made it. She managed to wrap up her Nightkeepers 2012 Mayan end of days romance series, before the December 'drop dead' date, and in this eight and final book, Rabbit who has the power of both light and dark magic - and who has for the most part grown up over the course of the series - gets his chance to play his part but will love be the thing to save the day and the world?

I kept vacillating between rounding Spellfire up to four stars or not. There were things that I liked and things that I didn't and there was a very BDB tone to Rabbit's 'voice' in the beginning of the story which slowed my getting invested in the book initially.

I was also mixed on the direction that the end days conflict took - talk about a complete switch up in the series mythos - but despite not getting quite the battle that I expected, I do have to give the climatic conflict a few point since there was enough an actual battle this time and not just huge build up to a skirmish that was quickly and easily won like there has been in the previous books.

On the plus side, I liked the bits with Anna and her HEA. I liked seeing her move past her past and try to seek out her power. I do wish that she had had a short story of her own though because I wouldn't have minded just a bit more of her part of the story - because that 'romance' was mostly 'tell' instead of show in the build up of her connection and in the payoff as well - and while what was 'told' looked very sweet, so I'd have liked to have experienced it.

I know that a lot of readers have issues with this book's leading lady Myrinne - who has always been the love of Rabbit's life - but I didn't mind Myrinne (even though I don't really think that she put as much into the relationship as Rabbit.) However, I also had nits with the fact that even though they were supposed to have grown up since the last book - due to of all that they'd been through - Myrinne and Rabbit still seemed very young. Adding that to the fact that, Rabbit is not very eloquent in expressing his strong emotions (normally a f-bomb does the job), and the result was that they really ended up being my least favorite pairing of the series and while there was some good steam between them, their romance in progress wasn't as satisfying as it could have been.

The 'epilog' for the whole Nightkeeper crew and for Myrinne and Rabbit was good though, which is why I decided to round up my rating because Andersen did deliver a climatic finish and she does deserve kudos for leaving all of my old favorite characters with a decent HEA.

Rabbit knows he has burnt his last bridge and it’s only a matter time before the person he thought he could trust kills him. After all, he betrayed not only his friends and fellow Nightkeepers, but also destroyed the love he had with Myrinne and to top it all off, his magic is gone. Imagine Rabbit’s surprise when he is able to escape from the hellish cave he is being kept in and even more surprising, the Nightkeepers had come for him. The problem is Rabbit knows they may never trust him again and he isn’t sure he can fulfill the prophecy about him and save the world.

Myrinne is still stunned by her last time with Rabbit and his attempt to kill her. She thought that their relationship was strong enough to survive anything, but she never counted on a demon messing with his beliefs, the very foundations of his being. Myrinne survives Rabbit’s attack and even came out of it with stronger magic than she had before. Now she is facing the hardest choice of all, helping to rescue the very man she loved and who turned his back on her.

Rabbit realizes right away that his magic has gone to Myrinne. While he wants it back to feel normal, Rabbit would also love to let Myrinne have it. The night of the prophecy is just around the corner and if the Nightkeepers are going to save the world, they will first need to figure out what all the clues they have been give mean. At the same time, Rabbit has to learn what a crossover is and just what his powers are meant to do when the wall comes tumbling down. The hardest part is Rabbit and Myrinne have to work together with his magic to find the answers – harder still because the passion that has always been between them is still there and seems to be getting stronger. The clock is ticking down, it’s only hours until either the world as everyone knows it will end or Rabbit, Myrinne and the other Nightkeepers will find all the answers and stop the deadly turn about to happen.

Months have turned into days and now into hours, the survival of the world will come down to the two self proclaimed misfits and their love to save the world with the help of the other Nightkeepers. Spellfire is a book I have long awaited, not because it was the last book of the series and I would finally know all the answers, but because it was Rabbit’s book and I really wanted him to have the best of happy ever afters. I was very worried when I saw Rabbit and Myrinne so far apart. I cheered when Rabbit made it out of that cave and yet again when he and Myrinne began the long road back to the love they had for so long. I came to believe that all the ups and downs were necessary, if painful, for them to find the shocking answers that were needed to save the world.

Spellfire takes us right to the strike of midnight and past it with all the drama, suspense and passion you could ever ask for. Now that the answers are known, I’m going to spoil myself and spend an entire weekend reading this series from beginning until end just to feel the tension build up and all the passion that was found and held as each of the Nightkeepers found their own answers to help solve clues in time. If you haven’t read this series yet, I highly suggest that you begin at the first book and read them in order to follow all the over arching clues and indulge in the suspense and passion.

My opinions above are just a few of the reasons why I was held spellbound and did not want to put this book down once I began it. All of these reasons and even more are why I have to Joyfully Recommend Spellfire as a must read and the Nightkeepers series as one you will not forget anytime soon.

In her exciting conclusion to her Nightkeeper Series Jessica Andersen answers the question.. will the world really end on 12/21 and how can anyone ever even attempt to stop it?

When last we saw the Nightkeepers, Myrienne was close to death, Red Boar (the scuzz) was back and Rabbit was missing. And there were just a few short months left before the world as we know it was scheduled to end.

Rabbit, talk about a screwup.. But then he has always been a favorite, even during his worst mistakes because we know, no matter how bad, his heart is in the right place. And all he really wants is to be accepted, loved, wanted. The problem is these same needs and desires have gotten our gorgeous mishap in way over his head and everyone it seems now wants him dead or at least contained. Captured by one of the big evils he has spent the past few months being tortured.. and yet he survived, escaped and is now out for some serious revenge and equally serious redemption.

When Rabbit offered up his magic in order to bring the first father back, it skipped into Myrienne. Finally her dreams have come true and she has magic of her own. Only problem is she was half dead and while recovering has had to deal with the newly recalled Red Boar.. what a freaking jerk. Myrienne, no longer trusts what Rabbit is and she is determined to keep him at a distance. Only trouble with that is, since she holds his magic and is the only way he can release his, they must work together.

Red Boar is the single most horrid "good guy" I have ever encountered. There is just NOTHING redeemable about this jerk. Even upon his return, knowing the importance of Rabbit, knowing that the need is strong, Red Boar insists on treating him like pond scum. And Rabbit, amazingly enough learns how to work with this without malice or resentment. Shows what a class act our Rabbit has become.

Anna, finally has a sweet story of her own. A lifetime of refusing her gifts have left her without her powers and alone. But in the midst of it all there comes a Doctor, committed to helping others and Anna tumbles into a sweet story of her own.

The team is forced to face the worst battle a man can face, that of faith. The leap of faith that they must take has to be one of the hardest things anyone could ever be asked to do. Can they read the signs properly? Can they find the truth between the lies? Will they succeed? Will they fail? If they do succeed do they survive? This book keeps the story running fast and furious.. slowly unwrapping each new problem with a wicked glee that Doc Jess seems to have mastered. This story is edge of your seat, what will happen next..

It shows a flawed hero and a heroine who has finally found a place, only to wonder if it's the right place. It teaches of true love and sacrifice. Of people willing to die for a cause, for love, for friendship and for faith. What an amazing story Doc Jess has left us with.

The way the strings were all tied, the story raveled back together and each member of the team complete.. yeah.. great book.. great series.. I really don't want to say goodbye.

This one really wrapped up things, good thing too as it would have been weird to read about the Mayan end of world pass 12/21/12.

I found all the things that Rabbit went through in this book to be exhausting. I have always felt sorry for him, it seems he has gotten the shaft so often, and that is not to mention how his father treated him. At times I was on the edge if I wanted Rabbit and Myrinne to get together, they just had so much drama all the time I didn't know if it was worth it.

I was surprised by what all the Nightkeepers needed to do to beat back the evil. It seems like it went against all that they knew and believed, but sometimes you need to take a drastic step.

I really liked the small happiness that Anna found in the last days. It seemed like an unusual pairing, but it worked for them.

I loved the end, loved that we got to see everyone come together at the Cardinal days after time apart. The vibe of the gathering was just what the Nightkeepers is all about.

The problem with this book is that by itself it works okay. But when you consider the previous seven (and a half) books? What. The. Hell.

Myrinne spent the first third being treated like a character that she's not. Everyone acting like all her behaviour was perfect and right and Rabbit was evil. And to be fair Rabbit deserved some mistrust after nearly killing Myrinne and going crazy. BUT, Rabbit's magic transfered to Myrinne, when they got close the magic would try to get back to him and everyone acted like it was hers. IT WASN'T.

And the stuff at the end? WTF? Copout. If this weren't the last book I'd be dropping the series. It's not but damn way to wreck it all at the finish line.

Pretty good ending! It's about time Rabbit got his own book. It wasn't amazing: the relationship turmoil and character growth were pretty similar to the other books, as was the mush at the end. The story takes a turn that would make rereading the series a little odd, as it nulifies the significance of some events in previous books. I do like that Anna got parts of the book. There's still that element of helpless suspense you share with the characters when it comes to decisions that Andersen is good at writing, which keeps you hooked. I wish characters from the other books had gotten a little more space, since it's the last book, but oh well.

So, this is the end. The end of Nightkeepers series by Jessica Andersen. I've enjoyed the ride and I will miss the team and the all of the couples that kept me company for the last few months.
I actually can't say I have a favourite character because I have loved them all.
Jessica has a beautiful, engaging writing and I can only thank her for the wonderful series she has written.

I'm so happy for Rabbit and Anna, right now.

I am anxious to read her future books. :D

What a wonderful ending to a most amazing series. I LOVED Rabbit and Myr's story. Ms. Anderson twisted and turned the plot all the way to the end until I had no idea how the Nightkeepers were going to save the world.

All of these books are on my keeper shelf and I can't wait to start from the beginning and enjoy the whole series again.

Three weeks until zero date. Final book.

Rabbit has been captured and is being tortured by the Banol Kax Phee. When he’s finally rescued, the others don’t trust him, especially Myr. But he’s essential to winning the war so they have to make it work.

Meanwhile Anna is trying to help a human doctor in Mexico find a cure for the xombi virus that’s plaguing the humans in preparation for the end time and she’s finding herself attracted to him.

Interesting twists and decisions. Even though I knew how it had to end, I was still surprised by how it ended. What I wondered (and I’m trying not to give to much away) is what/how they were able to keep their god-given powers?

Fave scenes: Anna meeting Doctor Curtis, Anna & the little girl, Sasha’s brownies and Rabbit’s fight with the Corn god.

After years of preparations the Nightkeepers have finally reached the projected Mayan end of times. But have they done enough to protect themselves and the world? Rabbit has spent years doubting himself, never really knowing himself and finally being led astray potentially betraying the Nightkeepers. As Rabbit repents for his past misdeeds he has to re-earn the trust of not just the Nightkeepers but especially his love, Myr. And when they begin to have visions will they be able to trust the new direction the gods are leading them in. A semi-satisfying ending to an exciting series. There was a big turn in this story and I'll admit, I didn't feel like it was explored very well. Outside of that, a great journey with the Nightkeepers as their final battle comes to a climax.

SpellFire is Jessica Andersen’s final book in her Nightkeepers (Final Prophecy) series. We have waited for a year to get to the highly anticipated final showdown, the Mayan Doomsday. This final story belongs to Rabbit and Myrinne, though all the Nightkeepers play a big part of this story.

When we last left off with our Nightkeepers, Rabbit was tricked & then taken prisoner by the demons, leaving Myrinne just about at death’s door. Rabbit has always been a wild card, not totally in control. Myrinne was the one who changed his life for the better, and as time passes, Rabbit begins to mature and take on his role with the Nightkeepers.

As we begin Spellfire, Rabbit is being tortured by the demons. He no longer has his powers, as the demons try to take that from him. The only thing that keeps him alive, is his thoughts of Myrinne. He manages to make a last desperate attempt to escape, and just when he is ready to give up, the Nightkeepers come to his rescue. But the biggest shock is when he sees his worst nightmare, his dead father, Red Boar alive. Back at the compound, Rabbit knows he has lost all his credibility with his friends, and as he looks for Myrinne, he sees her distant cold behavior.

Myrinne is not the same person Rabbit knew when he almost killed her. She was hurt badly by his believing the demon trickery, and thinking the worst of her. The emotional memory of that time has frozen her heart. Now that all of Rabbit magic belongs to Myrinne, she is also reluctant to give it back.

Rabbit must earn back the respect and prove to the Nightkeepers and Myrinne, he is no danger to them, and he will be able to handle whatever is needed of him to help win the final battle. We learn early on that Rabbit is the crossover, which no one really understands what that means. As they have to work together, Rabbit and Myrinne slowly begin to resume their relationship, though Myrinne fights off her mistrust.

One of the best parts of the story was Anna. I have always loved Anna, and was worried that Andersen would put her at the end with the awful detestable Red Boar. I had felt this way, as there was no one else that was available for Anna. But Andersen does right by Anna, and I loved how things turn out for her. Seeing all the other Nightkeepers/Mates was awesome too.

The final half of the book was very exciting, with a lot of action and twists along the way. Will Rabbit be able to control his magic, including his dark magic? Will Rabbit finally find out about his family? Will Myrinne forgive him to allow herself to fully love him again? What will happen to Red Boar? Will the Nightkeepers be able to solve the mystery of what needs to be done to win the War? Will they win the war and stop Doomsday?

So many questions, and Andersen answers them all. My favorite part of the final book was Anna. My least favorite was unfortunately Rabbit and Myrinne. I did like them, but something seemed to be missing. Perhaps it was that their pairing paled in comparison to the other couples in the Nightkeepers series, who were totally awesome, and this one was a bit of a let down. I really enjoyed how at the end, we get to see what happens to each of the Nightkeepers, that we have come to know and love. Spellfire was a wonderful end to a fantastic series, and as I have said before, Jess Andersen is a wonderful writer. If you have not read this series, you are missing a fabulous ride.

Rabbit has been imprisoned for months now, tortured daily by the demoness who tricked him into believe she is his mother’s ghost or something like that. Seduced by false memories of his earliest childhood, he believed her lies. Until Myrinne lay dying at his feet and he wanted to give up his own life in exchange for hers. The demoness wants his crossover magic for her own, as he is prophesied to be the catalyst in the upcoming endwar. Only a few more days until December 21, 2012. But Rabbit seems to have lost his powers, so even if he wanted to give them to her willingly, he can’t do it. When she is going after Myrinne, that is the last drop, and he manages to break free from his manacles, and kill his guard. And those demons can only be killed in one particular and very unpleasant way!
Just when Rabbit manages to escape, Red Boar can find him, using the blood link between them, and the whole Nightkeepers team comes to his rescue, winikin and all.

Back home at Skywatch, they don’t trust Rabbit anymore, even less so than the other warriors who have been possessed by black magic and worse. And it is Myrinne who has possession of his magic now, and she does not really want to give it back. She enjoys fighting alongside the Nightkeepers. She is using it with the help of her Wiccan artefacts, and is doing a nice job.

Rabbit will have to fight hard to win his fellow warriors trust back, and Myrinne’s love. She doesn’t want to try again, but it is unfair that she blames everything that happened on Rabbit, as she was doing secret stuff herself as well. Being utterly controlled by Red Boar is not helping much either, as they are still on opposite sides of most issues.

And then Anna finally sees a prophecy, and they uncover one of the ancient crystal skulls. A new goddess appears, and she sure turns their whole belief system on its ear. Will they listen to her, believe in her? Red Boar is certainly against it all, and he will do whatever is necessary to keep them in check, even using Rabbit’s oats against their King.

I was glued to this book, it was so full of surprises, I never would have been able to dream of them. But if you think about it, it is logical. But it turned the tale around completely, and I loved it. I have had a soft spot for Rabbit all through the books, and it was good to see him grow from a troubled youth to the warrior he has become. It really is his magic that makes the difference and saves the day.

I don’t know what more to say about this book, the conclusion to the series. Even though the date has come and gone, it does not diminish the impact of the story. The characters and the storyline are unique and great, and I loved all the books. Sure, there are some details I could do without, but I think that would be true for most paranormal romance series. There is enough action, lots of plot twists and of course hot love scenes, but not too much for my taste. I do recommend this series.

9,5 stars.

This is the 8th and FINAL book in the series. Final. Finished. No more. Do you know how good that feels? I have about 50 different series that I am at different stages of reading or that I am up-to-date on but the author is still churning out more books for, but I have finally finished one. And it is over - the world is saved, 28000 years until the next doomsday event. FINISHED!

This final book was about Rabbit (the crossover) and Myr (the witch) and basically taking the previous 7 books and turning them on their heads in terms of their allegiance and the role of the Gods in the final battle for the planet. The last two books were much lighter on lore (THANK-GOD) than the first six books and for that I think I enjoyed them more. And by that, I don't mean that they were light as there was still sufficient lore in terms of the Gods of the sky and the underworld and bringing in not just Mayan mythology but also Egyptian mythology. No, what I mean is that I think the author finally got the balance right between story and lore.

I think the fact that my library had this entire series was the reason I kept going. I have a feeling that if they were missing books (which is usually the case), then I would have stopped reading. I never really got into the characters and by the end all of the characters I had read about turned into a bit of a blur where I couldn't really remember their stories. The writing was good. The heavy lore in the first six books made them slowish reads and definitely not edge of your seat stuff which is difficult. Having said that, they were more cerebral than most paranormal/ fantasy romance works in terms of the worlds and gods and Mayan lore so for that they are definitely a unique series of books and I am glad they crossed my path (and that the world is safe at last).

This series has been building up to this book for so long I was afraid I would be disappointed when I finally read it, but I was thrilled to find out that this book was all it was hyped to be. Rabbit and Myr were both great characters to read about and I enjoyed seeing them finally come together for the long haul. The plot of the end of the world was full of twists and turns and blending of new and old beliefs, educating the reader about myth and legend while giving them a modern version they could relate to their personal lives. I was thrilled to see the way the end time prophecy was handled and that in the end the good guys prevailed even though they weren’t sure they were the good guys at some points. I will be telling everyone to read this story once the end time has passed without the world ending, just so everyone else can see why there was never any doubt we would be fine. *wink wink*

The final Nightkeepers novel where all the pieces come together with a fairly satisfying resolution. Will Rabbit get the dark magic under control and successfully become the crossover, will Myrinne forgive him and have a glorious Nightkeeper HEA, who are the good guys and who are the bad guys and the big question will there be a 22nd December, 2012? All the answers are revealed and more.

My only nit it that my favourite character Anna should have got more page time with her delectable Australian Doctor Dave, this aspect of the story was a bit underdeveloped. Apparently Jessica Andersen had intended a full book for Anna and ran out of time. A shame because she was an interesting character who deserved a full storyline and a more detailed HEA.

Although not my favourite series it did have an interesting and unique mythology and Jessica Andersen wrapped it up nicely and definitively. As a reader it feels satisfying to knock another series off the TBR pile!

This is a tough one to judge. On the one hand, Andersen is a great writer and the Nightkeepers are a compelling group. The book was a good book. However, on the other hand, this book didn't live up to my expectations. And in those terms, it was a disappointment.

Rabbit is the wild card mage in the group known as the Nightkeepers. He is prophesied to be the "cross over", but no one has a clue what that means. Rabbit is the son of the last surviving Nightkeeper and a mysterious woman and he commands both the light Nightkeeper magic and the dark magic of their enemies. But what effect this ability will have and what hope it will have for the people tasked with saving the world at the end date is any body's guess.

This was a rushed and disappointing end to a great series...
Rabbit struggles to come to terms with proving his loyalty to the Nightkeepers and try to get Myrinne's love back and struggles with his resurrected old-school Dad Red Boar. The Nightkeepers discover the real story behind the coming war. Rabbit is the son of Seth, Egyptian god of chaos, the embodiment of risk & danger, change & invention, and is the key to keeping the god's guardians (NKs) alive. The Kohan (inhabitants of upper plane) and Kax (inhabitants of lower plane) both want control of the human middle plane. Before they split into Xibaldian and Nightkeepers they understood the unity of dark and light, good and bad together. Rabbit is the crossover connection to putting it all back together. Anna finds her mate in Dr. David Curtis, Australian CDC Dr fighting the xombi virus.

What an awesome ending, exactly everything I wanted to know. It is terrible that it is now over but I felt that all the loose ends were tied up beautifully.

The love between Myrinne and Rabbit is amazing they have their own set of rules and they break all the others. I loved seeing them fall in love over and over.

Rabbits true birth story finally comes out and it's fits perfectly within the storyline.

There are so many twists and turns in this book that you want to just keep turning the pages and find out what will happen next.

I absolutely loved this series such a different perspective of the paranormal romance genre.

Series overall: 4 stars
Spellfire, last in series: 3 stars

For seven books we've dealt with Rabbit in all his shades of infamy and, as far as he goes, I wasn't completely disappointed. He and Myr were fun characters and they didn't need a whole lot in this one because we've been with them for so long.

Anna, on the other hand, deserved better than a throw away coming into her powers/love story. Still I'm glad we got some sort of closure for her.

SPOILERS: As for the end solution to the end of the world countdown...well I'm not on it. If it had started earlier than the end of the last book I would've been a lot more into it. Too little, too late.

Still a good series.

AWESOME! JUST FREAKING AWESOME! I wanted to soooo bad go to the end chapter and find out what happened. Jessica did a fantastic job with Rabbit's story and Anna's! From beginning to end it kept a smile on my face. You could feel for Rabbit and Myr. Jessica's twist into the story was awesome! I did not expect to read what I read. I don't want to spoil it for anyone, but it will make you "whoa" so did not see that coming but it makes so much sense now. lol. Hope people give the book and series a chance. its AWESOME!

A wonderful finale to the series. I am very happy with the way things ended and was expecting people to die...it was a relief to say the least. I like how the story mostly revolved around Rabbit and Myr but it also closed off story lines with other people including Anna. :-)

Great series and sad it's ended. I will definitely keep my eyes open for new books from JA for sure. These ones were awesome.
