One look at the baby girl, and there was no question Kade Ryland was the father. For three months, Kade had posed as Bree Winston's husband at the Fulbright Fertility Clinic, while the two FBI agents investigated a trail of illegal adoptions and surrogates. Nine months later, a baby was dropped at his feet—and Bree was nowhere to be found. Now Kade had to reopen a case that had gotten way too personal and find Bree—fast. But if the two of them had never been a real couple, were they ready to be parents? Whatever the answer, Kade now had more than one reason to close this case once and for all.

Nine months ago, Kade Ryland was investigating a fertility clinic for the FBI. Now a baby sharing his DNA has shown up and he discovers that the other agent who had worked the case disappeared. It's a race to find his previous partner and figure out how and what happened in Delores Fossen's novel, Kade. Answers aren't easy to come by or easy to accept, and what Kade and Bree find out will change their lives forever.
Kade is a different kind of romance novel. The main characters don't have sex and never have. They focus mainly on the case and marginally on their child. The fast paced story line drives to the finish but the ending twist seems rather pat and more typical of a romance novel. I have to call out the marketing team on the book's cover: someone dropped the proverbial ball.
Disclaimer: A copy of this book was provided by the publisher.
More of a 3.5. Favorite Lines: "But Kade hadn't thought he was ready to be a father until he had seen Leah's face. Just the sight of her had caused something to switch in his head, and in that moment Leah became the most important person in his life. He would die to protect his little girl." (p. 66, e-galley)
Mini Rant: First of all I've got to say that while I like the cover it ruins the story. Reading the e-galley, I didn't have a cover to look at. That means when certain events took place I was surprised. Now looking at the cover, knowing the story, I can't help but feel like someone in the marketing department spoiled this book for other would-be readers.
Kade surprised me. I thought I'd like it; duh, why else would I read it? It started off with a bang and just kept moving. The suspense was steady. Every time I thought I knew who the villains were, someone would say or do something to make me change my mind. We're told up front who the suspects are and Delores Fossen does a good job keeping us bouncing with suspicion.
The romance was slightly different from what I thought it would be. Kade and Bree never had sex, but they are the biological parents of the same child. They worked together and were attracted to one another while working undercover. The story starts almost a year later with Kade being told he has a baby and it had been abandoned. The beginning reeled me in and I had to know more.
Kade is a fast paced book that shows us two people investigating Bree's unexplained disappearance while she adjusts to the news that she is a mother. Bree doesn't remember her pregnancy or the first moments holding her child. When you put that with her previous determination to never be a mother, you understand how confused and upset she is.
Unfortunately I never really felt her distress at not remembering those memories that many women cherish. I got her shock at being a mother and her quick acceptance and love for her child, but not the emotional loss of those mother/baby only memories. There wasn't the dissatisfaction with all she missed while pregnant. Maybe she felt like those memories would return gradually as her other memories did.
The book is straight down the line solid. It's a satisfying read that left me with the happy feeling that I expect to have when finishing a romance. It wasn't an over the top happy, but a I'm feeling just right type of feeling.
This book tell the story of Kade and Bree. It started off with the shock that Kade received when his brother reveal that he is the father of a little girl that was left at the entrance. But whose is the mother of the baby then? As a consequences from his previous assignment as an undercover, he found himself fathered a child and that the mother of the child is the agent that he worked with, Bree. This has triggered a string of encountered with the peoples from their previous assignment which threaten not only both their life but also the life of their child.
It was very well written off and i hardly can put down my ereader. The story plot was very engaging and you couldnt stop from wanting to know the actual event that took place when Bree was abducted and the reason for the things that happened.
What a thrill ride! While the romance took a bit of a back seat to the fast-moving plot, the sexual tension sizzled, and the emotional connections between parents and children was truly heartwarming. A quick read that I truly enjoyed.
This book's storyline was okay. I liked Kade's character. I liked Bree's character. I liked Leah. I liked the ending. I think this story needed more action it wasn't as good as NATE to me.
4 STARS Very Suspenseful to the end. Was not sure who the bad guys were till the end. Kade is part of The Lawmen of Silver Creek Ranch series. Kade is also the name of the hero of this novel. Kade has a lot of brothers and they are all in law inforce. Kade is in the FBI. One of his brothers who is sheriff deputy calls him and tells him to get call him back its an emergency. When Kade is told to get to the hospital to meet his brother he goes and asks who died. Kade is told how a few days ago a baby was dropped off at the hospital. Just a few days old and they ran dna test and congratualations he is the father. Because he is in FBI his DNA was on record. Kade is trying to figure out was which case he was working on to figure out who the mother is. Kade remembered he was undercover at a fertility clinic with a female deep undercover female agent. They did not have sex but it was a desire. Then he remembered their cover was blown and they were both drugged for awhile. He tells his brother to take care of her he will be back. Special Agent Bree Winston was a deep undercover FBI agent. She was feeling drugged and her gun was not on the nightstand or her cell phone. She was so confused. She could not remember what case she was on, what her cover was. Before she could figure out thier was a knock on the door and a stranger was calling her name. Kade breaks the door down when she doesn't answer. Bree waits till he gets closer to try and take him down. Then he was acting like a lawman and started to remember a little. Kade tells Bree when he can see she is drugged that she has been missing for more than 9 1/2 months. He just found out a month ago when a new born baby was dropped off at the hospital. Before he can completely get her to trust him someone shoots through the motel door. They need to get out of the room. They go out the bathroom window and thier is a shoot out with the gunman. Kade and Bree are in the truck and he calls the brother who can process the scene and to lockdown the ranch. Kade takes Bree to meet her daughter. They dont know who or why she was made pregnant and who the guilty party was. Thier is a lot of action and suspects before its through. Surprises are in store. I liked it and look forward to reading more about the Lawmen of Silver Creek Ranch. I was given this ebook to read in exchange of a honest review from Netgalley. 06/26/2012 PUB Harlequin Intrigue
Very good book. When Kade was called to the hospital and told that they had found a baby girl and the child was his, he was stunned. The age was right for her to be the result of the undercover operation, but he and his fellow operative had never made love. When Bree was definitely identified as the mother, he knew he had to find her quickly. When he did find her, she had been drugged and it took awhile for her to remember what had happened. In the meantime, they were still investigating the clinic and the people who had run it. People were trying to kill them and they needed to find out who and why. I loved seeing Kade with baby Leah. He hadn't expected to become a father yet, but Leah stole his heart the minute he saw her. There's nothing like seeing a big tough guy melt in the presence of a baby. He was so good with her. When Bree was brought to the ranch to recover and meet Leah, she was scared at first. She had never planned to have children because she had had a terrible childhood and knew nothing of how to love and raise a child. But like Kade, as soon as she saw Leah her maternal instincts kicked in and she knew she would do anything to keep her safe. She and Kade knew they would have to come to some kind of decision about how to raise her, but that would have to wait. They also had to deal with their attraction to each other, and decide if it was going to go anywhere. The action in this story was nonstop and keeping track of the twists and turns kept me guessing. There was a surprise twist at the end that made things more tense for awhile. I can't wait for the next two books.
In Fossen’s romantic suspense novel, an abandoned baby surfaces at the local hospital and DNA tests confirm that Kade Ryland is the father. For three months, Kade had been undercover posing as Bree Winston’s husband at the Fulbright Fertility Clinic, all so that the two FBI agents could investigate a trail of illegal surrogates connected to illegal adoptions. Now its nine months later and Kade has a child he didn’t know he had and Bree is missing. Re-opening the case, Kade locates Bree and together they work to officially close this case once and for all.
This high-paced, action-packed installment to The Lawmen of Silver Creek Ranch will keep the reader guessing until the very end.
Another great read. I so enjoy all of Delores's books to date and this one doesnot disappoint. Kade is an FBI agent who was undercover with another agent named Bree. He hasn't seen her in months and all of a sudden a baby turns up that proves to be his and then he goes looking for the Mom(Bree) and can't find her. It is a daring rescue and pursue book that leads everyone on all sorts of twists and turns until the very end. I loved this book and am looking forward to reading the last two books in this series.
Wonderful story. So much action/adventure and suspense. The only reason I give it three stars is the giveaway with the two babies on the front of the cover. I already knew one of the biggest secrets of the book by seeing the cover. I wish I wouldn't have been able to see the cover. Note to publishers - don't put something on the cover that gives away a big chunk of the story. I would have given it five stars if I would have stumbled onto this surprise while reading the book.
FBI agent Kade Ryland has been involved in some of the most secretive assignments, posing undercover in a variety of ways. When he is called to the hospital and announced a new father to an abandoned infant, he is flustered and shocked especially when the DNA match comes back positive.
A baby girl dropped off at Silver Creek Hospital is DNA tested and proves to be the daughter of FBI Special Agent Kade Ryland who is puzzle on how this could be, until he realizes that the child was born after their undercover operation at a fertility clinic had been busted and they'd had to flee for their lives. In the meantime, Special Agent Bree Winston has been missing for 18 months, and a tip has been called in as to her whereabouts. Kade finds her and removes her from the dingy hotel where she's been being held captive just before a gunman arrives to kill her. Her physical shows that she's been being kept in a sedated state during her captivity and that she's the baby's mother. Pretty soon the Hector & Anthony McLendon & nurse Jamie Grier from the Fulbright Fertility Clinic show up at the Ryland ranch doubling down on there being on nothing illegal going on at the clinic. Now Kade, Bree Winston, and Kade's law enforcement brothers are going to have to stave off hitmen that are coming after Kade & Bree to permanently end any investigation.
Kade Ryland never expected to be a father, and Bree Winston never expected to become a mother, but both went undercover to expose a fertility clinic and that's what happens. By artificial insemination.
Only after Kade finds Bree after she's been kidnapped and held for months until after she gives birth do they learn that they are parents. The big surprise is how many babies she's given birth to and how they find out about the second babe after falling in love with baby number one.
But do they love each other? If not, custody could become an issue, particularly in the middle of a criminal undertaking that has both babies as well as Kade and Bree in danger of being killed. How's all the bad news going to end and what's going to happen to those identical twin girls?
Another in the Lawmen of Silver Creek series. Kade has to save Bree from kidnappers and finds out they are parents. They rush to solve mystery before all three lose their lives. Love the way this family support each other. Can't wait to read the next book in the series.
The storyline like the others started off with a bang. I couldn’t read it fast enough. Kade and Bree has several surprises. So read this book you can find out what happened to them
Action packed as always. Kade and Bree had an interesting relationship. A Child that was definitely his yet he hadn't had sex with its mother and then Bree waking up with no memory of the last 10 months. This book was to die for. I loved every minute of trying to figure out just who exactly was the culprit of the attacks on Bree and Kade. I loved the Ace in the Hole. That I did not see coming at all. Another one that Fossen shot out of the ball park for.
I have really enjoyed this series. I have read many of the books in the Lawmen of Silver Creek Ranch series, and plan on reading them all. The nice things about this series is each book can be read as a standalone. I have read the books out of order,(not knowing at first, it was a book series) and was not confused.
Kade was a fast pass, action/suspense, and romance book. The story had a plot that kept me wondering what was going to happen next. Kade made a great Hero. He was a cowboy with a badge, and gun. I loved the way he protected Bree, even tho Bree was a FBI agent, and most of the time could handle her own. Bree made a great Heroine. The story starts out with Bree not having any memories of the past year. She was kidnapped, drugged, and inseminated. Kade found her, right before her kidnapper was going to kill her. She was shocked to find out she was a mother. Her memories returned, as the drugs wore off. Her memories put her in more danger. I loved the way Bree, and Kade worked together to find out who was behind the attempted murder, and Bree's kidnapping.
KADE by author Delores Fossen is a Harlequin Intrigue release.
Kade Ryland was undercover at a fertility clinic to expose them for illegal practices with his partner Bree Winston. When the job ended he thought his attraction to his hot colleague would also end. Little realizing that nine months later they would be parents to a baby girl. And someone would be after their lives!
KADE is a thrilling, full of danger romance story amid all the mystery. It is a well written and captivating read.
(sex, adult situations) My biggest complaint about this book is that there are constant references to events that happened nine months ago - we don't see the characters develop attraction for each other because that happened already. I think this story would have been much more interesting if it followed the characters nine months earlier.
I enjoyed this book for what it is....a quick, easy romance with a twist. You know, the kind of book that doesn't require a whole lot of attention, BUT, you want to continue reading.
A GREAT summer read. Acually, any HARLEQUIN is a great summer read....enjoy.
In realtà è 4 1/2...
