Grandpa is an integral part of both our hero and our heroine’s lives, which provides part of the conflict for the two. Jealousy, protectiveness, and concern for Grandpa bring the two together as well as cause negative feelings for each other. And, there are plenty of other obstacles for the two to overcome before finally realizing that they love each other. The conflicts come just as you think things will finally work out for the two, which keeps you reading.
This is a fun, easy afternoon read.

Wow, this story was wonderful from the very beginning. Nurse Lauren Bates is returning home to be near her grandfather Lem. When she comes home she meets trauma surgeon Mitch. Mitch and Lem have been close for many, many years but Lauren and Mitch's paths never crossed, until now. Mitch is opening a trauma center "Eagle Point"and Lauren is running from a past incident while nursing that has her never wanting to work in Healthcare again. But with Mitch being so close to Lem her grandfather and always around, she eventually gets drawn back to Healthcare because Mitch is short staffed. But she is at odds with Mitch, he's became a staple in her grandfathers life, and she's envious. Both of them will have to share their time with Lem, meaning learn to get used to each others presence.
Lauren will only be in town for the summer. But as time passes she realizes maybe her home is here with her Grandfather, maybe Mitch isn't as bad as she thought, maybe she was called to Healthcare. Except... before coming back home, she bought, is renovating and started a business with a friend. So turning her back on her life in Texas isn't an option AT ALL! Her time at Eagle Point, with Grandpa Lem, and most of all with Mitch WILL have to come to an end...
Cheryl is a wonderful author and I loved this book, it was my first one I've read by her. Its nice having a series in a medical setting.
On to book TWO in the series!!!

This should be titled, “The Psychologist’s Devotion (or Patient, if alliteration is a must.)” I personally could not fall in love with someone who was psychoanalyzing me to every person he talked to. While their behaviors/emotions are normal, their discussion of the reasons for said behaviors is outlandish and unrealistic. You don’t root for the two to get together. You root for her to punch his face... maybe that’s just me. I also get sick of the “matchmaking” character, in this case it’s the grandfather. Overkill on too many levels.

Doctor’s Devotion: A Definite 5 Star!
Mitch is a man on a mission to save as many lives as possible. He is a caring soul – spends each morning with Lem – the man who took him under his wing when his Father passed away, and he is opening a Trauma Center so accident victims have a chance at recovery – a chance his father never had. He is also harboring pain – pain from a Dear John letter from someone he thought he would spend the rest of his life with, unfortunately when their units were separated during deployment she found someone else.
Lauren is Lem’s Granddaughter; she is his closest living relative. She is visiting for the summer from Texas – far from the small town of Eagle Point in southern Illinois. It has been a long time since her last visit and the guilt weighs on her, Gramps looks different and he seems to be convinced that he does not have long on this earth past his 70th birthday. The fear of being alone is deep in Lauren, her parents died when she was young and she spent the summers of her youth with Lem but was moved from family member to family member the rest of the year. Lauren is a nurse, but has left the profession after an incident where a patient died, she was not at fault but her confidence is shaken.
The Trauma center is forced into service before it is officially open or fully staffed. Mitch implores Lauren into service and finds she has a real gift. He desperately wants Lauren to become part of his team – however Lauren is trying to keep her distance from Mitch. She doesn’t want to be close to the man who is trying to take her place in her Gramps life. They both know how important immediate care in the time of an emergency is – can they work together for the summer – or maybe longer?
Eagle Point is a small town not far from Refuge where Cheryl Wyatt’s Wing of Refuge Series took place. Close enough that the PJs can come help with emergencies or enjoy a barbecue. (Yes we meet up with a few characters from Wings of Refuge in Doctor’s Devotion!) It is full of new and interesting characters Cheryl Wyatt is known for. Cheryl’s descriptions of events bring them to vivid color in my mind. I can see the Trauma Center complete with the camouflaged ribbon at the opening ceremony. Her characters have honest conversations, and deal with real emotions. Lauren does not hide her jealously over Lem and Mitch’s relationship – and Mitch does not change that relationship just to make Lauren happy. The supporting characters have wonderful personalities and issues of their own. Ian is dealing with the feelings of failure over his impending divorce and lashes out at Mitch when he feels his friend is not being honest. And thru all of this they turn to God for help; using prayer, prayer that comes from the heart. They are real people I can’t wait to spend more time with! Doctor’s Devotion is the first of a series of books centered around the Eagle Point Trauma Center – I look forward to read more about Mitch and Lauren, while reading the stories of the other members of Mitch’s team.

Lauren Bates and Mitch Wellington have a lot in common to say the very least, besides the fact they both care deeply for Lem, Lauren's grandfather. Since Lauren has been living in Texas, Mitch has been taking care of the 70-year old since Lauren is the only family remaining to help. Mitch has kinda taken on the role of grandson to Lem and helps him out with whatever needs fixing on his ranch. Since Mitch has lost both of her parents and has no other family, Lem has become one for him as well.
Lauren is still running from her past as well. Finally becoming a nurse, she loses her faith and her self confidence when a patient she tries to save, suddenly dies. For Lauren it's more than she can handle and decides to put her nursing into an early retirement. Since losing her parents to carbon monoxide poisoning when she was young, she took up nursing as a way to help save lives but feels perhaps it isn't her true calling after all. So taking a brief time out from jobs, she heads back to Illinois to spend some time with her grandpa, only it seems that Mitch has replaced her in her grandfather's life.
When they arrive at a ribbon cutting ceremony shortly after picking her up at the airport for the new trauma center in Eagle Point, they are all suddenly pulled into action when a three car accident caused by a texting teenager puts the trauma center into use. Being short-handed since it's not suppose to officially be open yet, Mitch turns to Lauren's training to lend a hand with 4 trauma helicopters arriving. She has no other option but to jump in and lend a hand, but soon it will prove to Lauren that perhaps God really does have plans for her and nursing after all. It just perhaps wasn't a call in Texas.
In the Love Inspired Series by Cheryl Wyatt, The Doctor's Devotion takes the reader on a journey into losing your faith and trying hard to reconcile with your past and learn to forgive yourself when you can't control things that happen around you. We get to see the flaws in the characters of Mitch and Lauren, who both have undergone huge traumatic events and the paths the each of them have taken to come face to face with their faith. Mitch leans heavily on his while Lauren pushes hers away. What happens in this novel is a great story that I can't wait to share with my readers and the perfect summer read.
I received this book compliments of Christian Fiction Blog Alliance for my honest review and have to say, I was hooked as I usually am by most medical romance stories. Those always seem to capture my heart and soul as I believe I missed my medical calling to be a trauma doctor and still have the hopeful romantic at heart as well! I rate this one easily a head over heels 5 out of 5 stars and can't wait to pick up more by Cheryl Wyatt in the future.

After losing a patient and becoming disenchanted with her former profession as a nurse, Lauren Bates decides to open a sewing shop with a friend in Texas. But when her aging grandfather needs her, she rushes home to Illinois for the summer.
Enter former Air Force trauma surgeon Mitch Wellington, who has returned to rural Eagle Point with the dream of opening a trauma center and saving lives. Mitch has heard a lot about Lauren from her grandfather but she’s not comfortable with how close the two men have gotten in her absence.
When Lauren accompanies her grandfather and Mitch to the ribbon cutting for the trauma center, she learns just how important this center is to the area when a major emergency occurs. Short staffed, she must put aside her fears and step up to help those in need. Despite her low self-esteem due to the past tragedy, Lauren’s skills as a nurse totally blow Mitch away and he starts pursuing her as a nurse for his trauma center.
Of course, things don’t stay strictly professional and attraction develops between the two as the summer progresses. But things aren’t all wine and roses for the couple. Lauren’s commitment to her friend in Texas and Mitch’s dedication to his new trauma center mean they could torn apart before they truly get a chance to explore this relationship.
Ms. Wyatt’s has an uncanny ability to convey the growth of these characters, both spiritually and emotionally, makes this book very hard to put down. Her characters endure realistic struggles of loss, broken promises, money issues, etc. and make them all the more relatable to the reader. She puts them through situations that test their faith and make them set up to the plate just like we have to do every day of our lives. The plot is well thought out with multi-dimensional characters that will keep you engaged and intrigued.
P.S. There is a specific part of the story where I could almost hear Kenny Chesney singing in the background about his tractor. It’s a very amusing scene and just more evidence of how Ms. Wyatt can draw her readers into the story. Well done!

Lauren Bates hasn’t visited her grandfather in Illinois for five years, but she’s back now, determined to make the most of a two-month vacation to connect with her only family member.
For his part, Lem is about to turn 70 and he’s terrified as it’s the exact age his dad and other have died. In Lauren’s absence, he’s become dependent on a young doctor whom he mentored as a teen.
Lauren isn’t impressed by how close Mitch Wellington and her grandfather seem to be. Guilt assails her that it’s her fault for staying away, even while she knows it’s good Lem has had someone looking out for him. But she’s home now, so Mitch should back off, not only in their personal life, but in his focus on getting her to go back to nursing, a dream she gave up shortly after certification when someone died in her care.
Mitch and his military teammates are launched into their new trauma center’s first tragedy during the ribbon-cutting ceremony. Lauren is too much nurse to turn Mitch down when the facility is obviously not yet fully staffed, but her heart is conflicted between love and dread for nursing–and love (?) and annoyance with the young doctor.
Not usually a fan of doctor/nurse romances, I’m happy to make an exception for Cheryl Wyatt, whose novels are full of great characterization, snappy dialogue, and succinct internal thoughts. This combo makes Cheryl one of my favorite authors, and I loved The Doctor’s Devotion just as much as I expected to.

My Thoughts on this book!
Wow I have a lot of thoughts, including the super nice handsome Doctor! But what I really like about Mitch is his sensitivity to his patients. The most touching part of the book is when Mitch leaned over and kissed the teen in a coma on the forehead. It brought tears to my eyes, just as it did Lauren. And I love, love Lem. He is the most precious grandfather, just like my own grandaddy and my dad as well. Brought back many memories of both, and I miss them so much.
This is a awesome summer read, the romance between Mitch and Lauren, or lack of it sometimes, will keep your nose in the book! Grandpa Lem was trying so very hard to spark interest between the two. He has two reasons for that, he wanted Lauren back in his life, and he wanted to make sure she was taken care of when he was gone. And what better man for her that the man that now calls Lem gramps, because Lem is like a grandad to Mitch and has been for a long time. Lem was alonely man, and Mitch made sure he was taken care of.
I highly recommend this book for your enjoyment. If you are a romance buff, you will love Doctor’s Devotion for sure. Cheryl Wyatt is a wonderful romance storyteller, and I will sure be looking for more of her books.

The wait can be agonizing for readers who long for one of their favorite authors to pick up a pen (or rather, get the fingers to the keyboard) and start a new series. The wait was definitely worth it with the publication of Cheryl Wyatt’s new book, The Doctor’s Devotion. Set in Eagle Point, a small town, the author’s new contemporary series focuses on a new rural trauma center and those who staff it. As a fan of Wyatt’s Wings of Refuge series, I knew to expect heroes with a depth of emotion and strong-willed women. But I was thrilled to see a new level of drama, romance, and details about the physical and mental effects of medical trauma, all while staying in a small town setting and still having a military connection.

He sets his sights on hiring Lauren Bates, a burnt out nurse who is avoiding medicine like the plague until a community accident forces her back in the medical world. In addition to being a fabulous “butting heads” sort of romance, the author introduces other intriguing characters to be featured in future stories. As a reader who developed a crush on one of them, I can’t wait to read the next book in this new series.

Thanks to Cheryl for my review book.
I have been waiting patiently for another Cheryl Wyatt book and finally its here. The Doctor’s Devotion didn’t disappoint. Eagle point is near Refuge where Cheryl’s last series was set and we do see some of the PJ’s in this book also. The book features a newly opened trauma center in Eagle Point. Mitch is a surgeon with a dream to open the center. Lauren is visiting her grandfather for the summer and has given up on nursing after an incident in Texas. We see an emergency where Lauren ends up helping and Mitch sees the nurse he needs for the center only he now has to convince Lauren to come and work for him. We also see the interaction between Mitch, Lauren and her grandfather. Lauren is dealing with a lot of issues including the fact she hasn’t seen her grandfather for five years and he seems to have a special bond with Mitch. She has to deal with her jealousy. This is another book that flows well and left me also wanting more. I know there will be more in the series but I am not sure I can wait til January for the next book. While I am the first to admit I have a real phobia of doctors I love reading books where doctors are the hero. This book left me wanting to find my own Mitch. Great read.

Mitch is a surgeon with a dream to open the center. Lauren is visiting her grandfather for the summer and has given up on nursing after an incident in Texas. We see an emergency where Lauren ends up helping and Mitch sees the nurse he needs for the center only he now has to convince Lauren to come and work for him. We also see the interaction between Mitch, Lauren and her grandfather. Lauren is dealing with a lot of issues including the fact she hasn’t seen her grandfather for five years and he seems to have a special bond with Mitch. She has to deal with her jealousy. This is another book that flows well and left me also wanting more. I know there will be more in the series but I am not sure I can wait til January for the next book. While I am the first to admit I have a real phobia of doctors I love reading books where doctors are the hero. This book left me wanting to find my own Mitch. Great read.

I enjoyed reading The Doctor's Devotion by Cheryl Wyatt. I have read many Love Inspired books over the years and continue to be amazed at what each new author can come up with to keep their story unique. I fell in love with Mitch and Lauren from the beginning of this book, I felt completely captivated while reading their story, and loved the banter between the two of them and "Grandpa Lem". Their unique, yet close-knit family ties to Lem, as well as their past hurts, and determination endeared them each to me as I read through this story. I will definitely be giving this story high ratings! A great intro to author Cheryl Wyatt's miniseries: Eagle Point Emergency.
Reading about the struggles and trauma that each of the main characters, especially Mitch and Lauren, go through drew me into this story in such a way that I was unable to put my book down until I had read it from cover to cover. I found myself laughing often, tearing up a few times and completely absorbed in the story. I am hooked now on this miniseries and will be anxiously awaiting more stories about the characters I have grown to love in The Doctor's Devotion! I especially look forward to reading more about Ian's story!

I enjoyed this read over a period of about 8 hours. Mitch, a doctor, is opening up a trauma center the same day a dear friend of his granddaughter arrives in town. Lauren is a knock out and agrees to accompany Mitch and her grandfather to the ribbon cutting. However, tragedy strikes before the ribbon can be cut. Choppers land with trauma victims and Mitch and his team are nowhere near prepared for these victims. Lauren is a trained nurse who left the field to pursue other dreams, however she agree to step in...just this once.
Over the course of time, one of those first patients, a girl named Mara, changes things for Lauren. The name Mara must have been carefully chosen because it is more than fitting for this young lady and her prognosis in life. Will Lauren ever return to her love of nursing? Will Mitch ever be able to move on with this love life?

Lauren Bates is already fighting low confidence when she goes from Texas to spend the summer with her aging grandfather,Lem in Eagle Point,Illinois. She has sent her attorney boyfriend on his way after he made some poor and dangerous choices when he was driving. Her biggest change has been leaving her career as a nurse behind after losing a patient. When she arrives,she finds she has to now share Lem with Dr. Mitch Wellington,and it really stirs up her jealousy when she experiences their "father-son" relationship. This doesn't help the regrets she already has for not visiting in too long.

I have to say, once I got into this book, I realized how much of a gift it is for a writer to be able to create realistic characters who struggle with things real people struggle with, and with problems I know people have gone through {losing loved ones in tragic and preventable accidents; bank loan issues; making promises and being unable to keep them due to circumstances}.
Cheryl Wyatt is such a writer. She is wonderful at creating characters like these. I related in many ways to both Lauren and Mitch, as well as walking alongside friends who have gone through what Ian went through {and I believe Ian will be the hero of the next book--if not the next one, certainly book 3--he needs his own happily ever after!}. Life is tough. I have friends right now going through some pretty tough stuff. Life is tough--but God is good. He gives us more than we can handle so that we can turn to Him, depending on His strength, trusting in His providence.

This book was too physical-focused for my taste. Also, Lauren was often whiny, immature, and jealous, and she made poor choices. She seemed to have two different personalities at times. She was compassionate only to Mara. She was irrationally jealous (to Mitch, about Lem).
Cooking dinner for one’s family is not a “one-of-a-kind quirk.” Every family has to eat; therefore, food must be cooked, and often.
I liked that this story revolved around a trauma center. I don’t see that setting often in Christian fiction.
Tractors were involved in the at-home portion of the story. That was pretty neat.
I liked this line: “whose work ethic wouldn’t let him see someone else working without stepping in to help.”

I have been anxious to read another series from Cheryl again. I really enjoyed her previous series and knew that I would enjoy this one. Her characters are always dealing with real life issues and are believable. This book begins her new series, once again set in a midwestern area close to her last series and even uses some of those characters! It is the story of Lauren and Mitch who need to overcome challenges (don't we all!) of either low self-esteem or past tragedies & forgiveness or realize what is important to have a future together. Cheryl knows how to tell a great story! I look forward to the next book in this series! She always leaves you wanting more!!

Cheryl Wyatt is one of my favorite authors and when I got the opportunity to read her first book in the Eagle Point Emergency series, I could hardly wait! Mitch Wellington has lost his faith in women and Lauren Bates has lost her faith in God and her desire to be a nurse. Cheryl's ability to tell a story is wonderful. As usual, The Doctor's Devotion is full of action as well as the weaving of faith and love. I enjoy the vulnerability of her characters as well as the humor that is liberally laced throughout this book. Kudos, Cheryl! You have another great book on your hands!

This book is the first in a new series surrounding an emergency room. I received it via Harlequin's Book Club right to my own front door. Wyatt has penned a number of other stories about para-rescuers. Like her other books, this one is action-packed and engaging. The small town feel shines through, the characters are very real, and the writing filled with imagery. Very well written. Very well worth the reading. Enjoy!

Wonderful start of Eagle Point Emergency series! I hurried to find subsequent books. Opening a trauma center in a rural area and finding fast-thinking, well-trained team players for his staff, a trauma surgeon sets the stakes high. Can this war veteran attract the right staff - and can they be in place on time to save lives? Great story, well-developed characters and plot.
