This book is short and easy to read and offers some good advice to educators. The authors basically psychoanalyze problem students and offer reverse psychology and other tips to defuse difficult situations in the classroom. Some of the tips are common sense, while some are counterintuitive. Some of the advice is also more clearly appropriate for younger grades, but much can be adapted for secondary classes. Now, if only I could remember the perfect thing to say in every situation ...
I liked the many ideas to avoid and defuse power struggles with students. I found most recommendations from the authors to be good practices, however I’ve found some of them difficult to carry out when I have 180 students. I will put many of these ideas into practice.
Short and to-the-point. I may have heard a lot of the ideas before, but it never hurts to have a refresher, and this book had some good specific examples of how to deal with misbehaving kids.
