In this sparkling Mermaid Tales adventure, can Kiki overcome her fears and enjoy her first-ever trip to the ocean's surface?
The third graders at Trident Academy are traveling to the surface of the ocean for the first time ever for a "hugely" exciting activity: They're going to visit a pod of humpback whales! But Kiki is less than thrilled. In fact, she's scared from the top of her head to the tip of her tail. After all, the enormous creatures could swallow her (and maybe her entire class) in one giant gulp! Kiki's pals Shelly and Echo try to help shrink her fears, and when a new friend comes along--a very big, whale-size friend--Kiki's courage emerges, and the fun looms large.

While this is not the best book I have ever read I am still planning to purchase the series for my library. My second grade girls are devouring the Fairy series. This will be the perfect series for them to read when they finish reading all of the Fairy books.
Third book in the series. The third-grade merkids are going on a field trip to study whales, but Kiki has always been afraid of them despite the fact that her father, a linguist, taught her to be fluent in the humpback language. The kids learn quite a bit and have oceanic adventures with the whales they meet. A good story for young elementary reasons learning to face and overcome their fears.
mrs. karp was reading the trident city tide and there was a pod of whales. so they had a ocean trip. kiki was scared of whales because they were so big and she was so small. But, she had a lucky charm. Shelly and Echo were already breaching on a whale named Mortimer. Kiki found a baby whale and was frightened. But the baby whale helped her find her lucky charm and Kiki got to breach on the whale.
I read it out loud to my daughter, and yet I found myself not even paying attention to the words I was saying, getting through several pages and realizing I had no idea what had just happened. When we finished, I asked my 4-year-old if she liked it, and she said, “Umm, no. Even though I picked it out.” Some books are like that, kid.
Update from the next day: At the library, she checked out another one from the series. I think Daddy will read that one with her 😆
This is the second I've read in this series and it's super cute. If you want mermaids without the midriffs, ocean facts and third graders working out feelings and relationships (family and friends) then this has it.
CONTENT: The main character has a lucky charm and thinks bad things will happen when she loses it (they don't).
Another great mermaid story with my daughter. Enjoyed how this one helps teach about fears and overcoming them. Ready to see what the next adventure will be.
I liked this book because it was a page tuner until the the end. This book is recommend for anyone who wants to reed it. If you like mermaid books you would like this book because it is a mermaid book. It is about them seeing whales. Read the book to find out more.
this is a good read . i recommend this book for ages 7 and up it is not the best book of the series but i still love the emotions that the book has the author was real expressive with all the words that she put. my favorite part is when Kiki notices that whales can be real nice with people . and my favorite character is Shelly siren she is the mane charterer she does most of the adventure story and hope fully that inspired you to read it soon !!!!!
Kiki is terrified of whales...but has the coolest bed in the entire world. Seeing how she faces her fears when she's worried about her friends is awesome. Yep, starting to like these books.
A cute, fluffy, sweet book about mermaids. A fun school-trip, whales, but also learning how to handle fear, and how to be brave. I loved Kiki, how even though she was so afraid she still tried, she still wanted to save her friends when she thought they were in danger. Rocky was annoying. It was at times a bit confusing, the main focus was Kiki and her fear, but we also see stuff from her friends' POV. Cute illustrations!
