Best-selling author and illustrator team Robert Munsch and Michael Martchenko have created another winning tale brimming with humor and unexpected twists.
Fresh out of clean clothes, Lacey must wear a previously shunned birthday gift from her a T-shirt that says, "Kiss Me, I'm Perfect."
Skeptical about the reception she will receive, Lacey starts her journey to school...and is pleasantly surprised by the attention she receives from the kitty cat, dog, eagle, and MOOSE she meets along her way. Even better, once at school, her potentially embarrassing attire is soon coveted by her classmates!
This ridiculously silly tale, filled with wet sloppy kisses, will leave readers in hysterics!
Robert Munsch was born in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. He graduated from Fordham University in 1969 with a Bachelor of Arts degree in history and from Boston University in 1971 with a Master of Arts degree in anthropology.
He studied to become a Jesuit priest, but decided he would rather work with children after jobs at orphanages and daycare centers. In 1973, he received a Master of Education in Child Studies from Tufts University. In 1975 he moved to Canada to work at the preschool at the University of Guelph in Guelph, Ontario. He also taught in the Department of Family Studies at the University of Guelph as a lecturer and as an assistant professor. In Guelph he was encouraged to publish the many stories he made up for the children he worked with.
Munsch's wife delivered two stillborn babies in 1979 and 1980. Out of the tragedy, he produced one of his best-known books, Love You Forever. This book was listed fourth on the 2001 Publishers Weekly All-Time Best selling Children's Books list for paperbacks at 6,970,000 copies (not including the 1,049,000 hardcover copies). The Munsches have since become adoptive parents of Julie, Andrew and Tyya (see them all in Something Good!)
Munsch has obsessive-compulsive disorder and has also suffered from manic depression. In August 2008, Munsch suffered a stroke that affected his ability to speak in normal sentences. He has recovered enough that he is able to perform live, but has put his writing career on hold until he is fully recovered.
Genre: Fiction Illustrations: This pictures are a little cheesy, but represent the story well Gist: One day when Lacey run out of clean cloths she is forced to wear a weird shirt that her grandmother bought for her. This shirt says kiss me I'm perfect. As she is taking her walk to school she has many animals that come up to her and give her a kiss. Once she reaches school her whole class turns and looks at her, at first she is embarrassed thinking they are looking at her because of her shirt. She then turns around to find a moose, the moose gives her a big kiss. After her class mates see this they all want her shirt, she learns to not let others options run her life.
This was a pretty decent book. this book follows a girl who received a shirt from her grandmother that she absolutely hates. She must wear the shirt because it is the only clean shirt she has. on the way to school she is kissed by several different kinds of animals. when she reaches school she is covered in all of the slobber from the animals and is told to go clean up. when she explains what happened all of the other kids want her shirt so her grandmother quickly brings more to the school. It showed that no matter what family matters. It also shows that you should not care as much what other people think of you as long as you like who you are.
I would give this book one and a half stars, as there definitely is a certain charm to the humorous events that unfold in its pages. Robert Munsch's text (and especially his illustrations) seem to have an almost manga-like quality. The author has a unique sense of comedy that clearly marks all of his writing, and "Kiss Me, I'm Perfect!" is no exception. In the end, I would say that this very short volume might be worth the read for its quirky humor and unusual style.
I love this. The argument between the girl and her mother (I would WASH your clothes if I could FIND your clothes!) is so real - and the girl's rejoinder (You PROMISE you'll bring me a new shirt? You won't go to work and cut down a tree?) is priceless.
Of course, in classic Munsch fashion everything goes over the top. I never knew eagles and moose could read and kiss people! (Naturally, a moose kiss that covers you head to toe with green gunk is a LOT less gross than a BOY kiss, ew!)
Cute enought book about a girl who gets silly shirts from her Grandma that she wont wear...until all her clothes are dirty and she has to! She wears a shirt with "Kiss Me, I'm Perfect" on it and gets kissed by many different things throughout the day. Cute...maybe if I had girls they would like it better :)
My favorite Robert Munsch book (that I've read). I think this one was one the kids got from school. It cracks us all up every time we read it. They think it's hilarious that Lacy throws a fit about wearing a "strange grandma shirt" to school, but wears her pj pants without a 2nd thought. They also love all the animals that give her kisses. The moose it their favorite. Very cute book.
A good book to read to children about cleaning your room and putting things back were they belong. A book I read to my daughter and explained to her that you need to be responsible for your own things and making sure your ready for school the night before.
We ordered this book through my daughter's book club at school and when I first read it I thought it was a little silly. Even my kids said it was funny that even the animals could talk, but we liked it because it puts a smile on your face.
Love, love, love, Robert Munsch. This is another hilarious story that you can relate to. Who hasn't gotten a bizarre t-shirt from someone? The main character has to wear a crazy grandma t-shirt to school (in the past they have embarrassed her) with fantastic results.
This was not one of my favorite Robert Munsch books, but my 8-year-old liked it. He thought it was hilarious that the little girl's shirt said "Kiss Me, I'm Perfect" and the animals could read it and kissed her. He also loved that the little boy in her class read it and kissed her.
This book should have been fun but it was actually sort of weird. The bear and the moose etc etc kiss her because of her shirt...I didn't think it was fun or cute...just weird.
Read away if you want, but I wasn't impressed....um just do your own laundry!!
