Eisenhorn #Short

The Keeler Image

Rate this book

In the 41st millennium, the past can be even more deadly than the present. The Horus Heresy may have happened ten thousand years ago, but the dark shadows of its history can never be fully excised. Inquisitor Eisenhorn travels to the world of Pallik, where, it is rumoured, a rare and ancient artefact from those terrible times has been put on sale. Eisenhorn and his team are plunged into a deadly game of cross and double-cross in a brand new story by the master of action-adventure fiction.

Read it because
Eisenhorn is back! And in a tale that mixes Dan Abnett's classic character with details from his Horus Heresy work.

The rumors on the web about this tale almost raised to the level of urban legend.
At last it was released in the summer of 2016 in audio and later in digital ebook format, but instead of the long waited sequel of 2012 Abnett's Pariah this is a nerd wet dream: a short tale of Eisenhorn with references to the Horus Heresy saga and its first amazing novel from the same Dan Abnett, Horus Rising.

A short but intense short action/philosophy-packed tale about the essence of the Imperium of Man and the Emperor: God or... Heretic??!
And reading again about Gregor, Medea, Nayl and Cherubael was so great that I was almost in tears... If my to read list was not so long, I'm so tempted to read again Eisenhorn.
Let's pray the immortal Emperor of Mankind that "Penitent" (book 2 of the Bequin/Eisenhorn vs Ravenor trilogy) is going to be released at last.

Nicely written with a decent plot twist on top. A little exaggerated here and there, but that's 40k for you.

It’s day seven of Black Library’s 2016 Summer of Reading campaign, and the stops have definitely all been pulled out with Dan Abnett’s much-awaited Eisenhorn story The Keeler Image. It finds Eisenhorn attending an auction hosted by Medonae the Eater, which includes a staggeringly rare pict taken by Euphrati Keeler – once a remembrancer in the Great Crusade and subsequently (as Saint Euphrati) one of the founders of the Imperial Creed. Among the interested parties attending the auction is someone Eisenhorn has been hunting for years, drawn out by what Keeler’s pict could mean.

A very good short story this one, albeit one of the shorter ones in the collection. As was potentially obvious from the title for fans of the Horus Heresy and Inquisition novels, it nicely links and contrasts the two different series and times in the 40k universe, with things very different now to what they were during the Horus Heresy. Shows well where Eisenhorn is at too, now being directly hunted by the Inquisition itself as he is regarded as a Heretic now as well, and it has to be admitted that his actions don't necessarily help his arguments for innocence in this regard, albeit he is still trying to fight the good fight as such, just using dubious methods.

Oh Greg, we missed you.

Damn it is good to be back with everyone's favourite heretical inquisitor! There was something brilliant about seeing Eisenhorn, Nayl and Medea back in action again. Cherubael less so😅

I really enjoyed this little mystery but I think some of this was probably lost on me as I have next to no knowledge of the Horus Heresy. That is firmly on the to do list. Regardless, we still get some pretty gross imagery, some nice lore building and a twist all packed into a small page count.

I'm really excited to get stuck into 'The Magos'! Perihelion first though!

It is a short but interesting story of the modern Imperium finding a relic from the Great Crusade. I always find these stories interesting. Wish there were more of them. This one in particular ties into Dan Abnetts' overarching plot line about the King in Yellow. Perhaps someday we will get that third Bequin book.

There were some pretty good one-liners, rather graphic depictions of gore and battle, as well as a bit of humor, but other than that compared to the rest of the Eisenhorn Omnibus I've read thus far it was very meh and kind of boring 🤷‍♀️

Again a nice small story that gives background to our favorite inquisitor. Nothing special but an entertaining read.

A brief story (18 pages), but so packed with deep lore and twists. I re-read it immediately after finishing.

Felt good and familiar, to get back to Eisenhorn's exploits after a while.

This fucking rules as a short story. I don't know why but especially after reading the beginning of the Horus Heresy seeing Keeler's picts being treated as literal artifacts is so fucking cool. I audibly said "holy shit" when I realized what they were which is awesome. Also love how a literal Saint's actual views of the Emperor are heresy. This is a great transition to Eisenhorn as more of a heretical being as well (I especially liked the psycher grade changes).

19 pages of pure Eisenhorn Fan-service.

The Keeler Image lays the link between both the Horus Heresy and Abnett's Eisenhorn series, and its Awesome. Eisenhorn remains one of Abnett's coolest characters and seeing how this stories interact with the Horus Heresy timeline is the cherry on top.

Recommended for fans of both the HH and Eisnenhorn series.
