Posie Graeme-Evans has worked in the Australian film and television industry for the last twenty-five years as an editor, director, and producer on hundreds of prime-time television programs, including McLeod's Daughters and Hi-5. She lives in Sydney with her husband and creative partner, Andrew Blaxland.
I really love Posie Graeme-Evans' writing, it is like entering a time machine and being transported back to another time and place. This prequel to The Dressmaker is a lovely short read that gives the reader a good taste of promising story telling.
I'm a big fan of Posie Graeme-Evans' and having ordered "The Dressmaker", I decided to read this one first when I found out it was written as a prelude to that novel. Easily read in one sitting, I was enchanted by the vivid descriptions and my interest was strongly held by the mysterious events. It's marketed as an "e-short story", but it's a bit lengthier than the typical short story, and necessarily so, in order to develop characterization and plot sufficiently. I'd call it more of a short novella. But that's a moot point, because what matters is that it is the perfect length considering the complexity of the story. A wonderful and enjoyable read.
A huge Posie Graeme-Evans fan, but not a huge fan of short stories, this was a good pre-lude to The Dressmaker. Takes a little under an hour to read..... Looking forward to more Posie reads for sure.....
I was looking under the Gothic tag at my library and found this. I haven’t read The Dressmaker - at least not her Dressmaker. Girl goes to visit friends of her mother and meets a young man on the train. She gets annoyed with him as he shares her compartment, and she won’t introduce herself because that would be against the rules of society. [I kind of don’t like her already - she’s writing this in her dotage to a friend - it’s her asides that make me frown]
And then her visit goes sideways and she’s back at home in another day. She clings to the pinnacle of ‘love’ she saw that day and never marries. Wow… Yeah… nah. 2 stars
The Last to Know is a short story in letter form. Elinor Fairfax is writing to explain what happened years ago when she was prone to making snap judgements and had little experience of life. Pois Graeme-Evans portrays a young woman well.
I discovered Posie Graeme-Evans from McLeod's daughters. I loved that show so I decided to explore her writing. This story was evocative and tugged at the heartstrings.
