I have to preface this by saying I am normally not a Christian Romance reader. That Being stated this was a wonderful story about two people reconnecting after an absence with a child's life hanging in the balance.

Josie is a single mom working hard to make ends meet while supporting a daughter, Hannah, who is sick with leukemia. She starts this story by making a trip to a nearby town to speak with Hannah's father in hopes that he will be a bone marrow match. She believes that he doesn't care about them as he never has tried to contact her since he left about 10 years ago. In her eyes this means he really doesn't care but she is desperate for a cure or hope for her daughter.

Nick is a college professor who is understandably shocked to find out he has a daughter. You see his mom kept the news from him and was killed 8 years ago in a car wreck that he feels responsible for. This wreck not only killed his mom but left his younger brother unable to live on his own. He is a good man and wants only to step up and do the right thing by the woman he realizes still holds his heart.

For those who like heat this is not the book for you but if you like a nice story about forgiveness and trust then this is the book for you. While there is a bit of preaching it was not too heavy handed and the story flowed nicely as you got to see that at times things do work out in the end. Love that is meant to be can and will win. Time can heal a lot but when things are meant to be they tend to find a way to work.

I would recommend this to anyone that needs a heartwarming read and isn't bothered by some Christian overtones. Nice job to the author and I would be willing to read more by her.

Favorite Lines: "Hannah Peretti, you are the most beautiful child I've ever had the privilege of seeing. You take my breath away. I look at you and thank God for the perfect gift He has given me. You're gorgeous. you must get that from your mother. But you know what? Being beautiful doesn't come from the clothes you wear, the color of your eyes or how much hair you have. Being beautiful comes from within. In this story, the little boy loved the rabbit even though others thought it was ugly. He was faded, ratty and dirty, but to the boy, the rabbit was real. Hannah, my love, you are beautiful from the inside out." (p. 110-111, egalley)

I'm not a huge fan of inspirational romance, but occasionally it hits a need inside of me. In Lakeside Family, I thought I'd get sucked into a light-hearted Christian romance, but what I got was a suspicious, rude and down right unlikeable heroine who ruined the story for me.

Lakeside Family reunites teenage lovers 10 years after a night of passion which led to the conception of a daughter. The man, Nick, had no idea that he was a father so he is shocked when he hears the news early in the book. The woman, Josie, told Nick's mother about her pregnancy and when she never heard from Nick, Josie assumed he wanted no part in his daughter's life. She had no idea that his mother would keep the pregnancy secret and she has a hard time adjusting to the idea of co-parenting.

I get that. I also understand that Josie is stressed out trying to manage her small business and caring for her daughter who is fighting a life threatening illness. I have a problem with a heroine who is so small minded that she cannot accept help or input from anyone. It happened so often that I was cursing while reading a Christian book. Kind of defeats the purpose of the story in my mind. How about a few examples?

When Josie can't come up with the mortgage payment Nick deposits enough money to pay it for a couple of months. He wants to help anyway he can and sees the money as a payment towards missed child support. Without her knowledge he has the money deposited into Josie's account. Her reaction?

Really? And yes, this attitude continued through the rest of the book. Josie found fault with everything Nick did and did not do. She harangued him and beat him down. She never thought about the issues he might be facing. She didn't consider how the news of being a father was affecting him.

Maybe another woman can ignore or pass off Josie's irrational behavior as an emotional reaction to the stress she's under. Not I. Josie came across as a taker and not a woman willing to partner with a man in a loving, permanent relationship.

My dislike for the heroine overshadowed everything else about the book. I fixated and hated her more and more. By the time the story ended I was felt bad for Nick cause all I see is a future filled with nagging. Had he been paired with a different woman I probably would have enjoyed the story. As it is, I'm just happy to have finished the story.

4 STARS Lakeside Family has a mother's worst nightmare, Her nine year old daughter has cancer. Her remission is over and now needs a bonemarrow transplant. So far cant find a match. Josie Peretti has been a single mother since her Junior year in high school. Now she has to find Hannah's father to see if he is a match. She has not seen him since he left for collage and broke up with her. Not a word about his daughter or gift for 9 year old Hannah. Nick Brennan did not recongize Josie when he saw her again for a few minutes. He was glad to see her. He was in a hurry to get to a meetimg but he did promise to call her when he was done. Instead of calling he came to her work since the address was on the card she left. Nick was sorry to hear that she had a daughter who had cancer. He wanted to know how that made her want to seek out him. Josie could not believe how he could not see why she needed him again. She said because he was a father and might be a match Nick was surprised and angry she kept that from him for 9 years. Josie had not kept it a secret. She went to Nick's mother and asked for his address at school. His mother would not give it to her but agreed to tell him. Nick had no idea and is mother died 8 years ago from an car accident. He was driving and blames himself for ruining his family. Nick wants to be active father to Hannah. He taught collage two hours from them and Had to move his brother to a group home in that city after his old one needed to close. Nick might lose his jub because he did not marry and had a nine year old daughter (hich I don't think its right that he lose a job because he found out he has a nine year old who is fighting cancer. I don't believe its right to have to have sex without marriage, but he is trying now that he knows to do whats right) Isn't funny how we can be so envolved in a story that we want to say something to a character or that makes you cry or laugh. Lakeside Family got me envolved in the story. I wanted things to work out for everyone. Quick read, no sex scenes or swearing. I will read more from Lisa Jordan in the future. What a delightful, sweet book this was! It was so much better than I thought it was going to be. This book started right off. It was not slow getting started at all. It grabbed my attention right away and kept it through the end. I have read a few "Love Inspired" books before, and they are OK but a little lacking in the plot but this one was so much better.

This story was mainly about Josie (the mom, trying her hardest to save her daughter's life and keep her business afloat at the same time), Hannah (the daughter with Leukemia and needs a bone marrow transplant) and Nick (the dad, who didn't know he was the dad). But there are also little mini stories in-between that it keep it so much more interesting. There is the relationship between Josie and Nick (that is or isn't happening), there is Nick's disabled brother who he has to find a new home for (didn't expect that little gem!) All this makes for a very heart-breaking and heart-warming story at the same time.

The character development was great, although I did not start out liking Josie. I though she was snotty and way too quick to judge. She did grow on me though and I ended up loving her. I did however love Nick right from the start. He was a great guy who loved his brother and was so willing to take on the family he didn't even know he had including his daughter. I also loved Hannah! She was perfect, very "kid-like" in character, she seemed real, a nice, smart, funny girl. I also loved all the family members and minor characters. The author had a way of making them important too.

The ending was very predictable but ... as I have said a million times - I don't mind a predictable ending as long as it ends the way I want it to, and this one did :-)

I went ahead and downloaded her other book as well - "Lakeside Reunion" which I will probably read and review by the end of the month.

THE ALL-IN-ALL -
This was a very sweet, quick, easy read. A nice Christian based book - No sex or swearing, of course! I don't know if a teen would really be interested in this book, but if they were - it would be fine for any age.

When faced with no other option, Josie Peretti tracks down her ex-boyfriend and begs for his help for their daughter. The only problem is she thought he knew about Hannah, but Nick Brennan claims he never heard she had a child. Josie must decide whether or not to believe Nick’s claims of innocence all while watching her daughter fight for her life. Can she forgive and forget in order to give Nick the chance to get to know the daughter she loves more than life itself? Or will she offer grace too late?

Despite the fact that the main characters had a child out of wedlock, LAKESIDE FAMILY is a sweet and unforgettable story with deep family roots and regrets that will leave your heart aching. Both Josie and Nick long to change things in their past, and the journey that follows is the tale that leads to their reunion and struggle to trust each other with their darkest secrets. This Love Inspired novel wiggled its way into my heart and kept me interested from the first page until the last.

This is Lisa Jordan’s second published novel, and I must say I’m pleased to have won it on an online giveaway. The analogies Lisa used fit right in with the character’s jobs and personalities. Her writing style makes for an easy read that appeals to multiple senses on many levels. I’m eager to see what she’s got planned for her next novel!

With most books I read, Lakeside Family provided hope and encouragement in a discouraging world. I particularly liked what Agnes told Josie on page 15: “See, that’s the great thing about faith—the more you need, the bigger it grows.” When I find myself struggling with the difficulties of life, I can remember that quote and find inspiration to push through the hardest moments. There is relief in knowing God is standing with me, and Lakeside Family is a sweet reminder of this. What inspiration will you find when you read this novel?

I liked this one a lot more than the first book. I thought this was a really sweet read. The book starts with Josie tracking down her old high school boyfriend to not only inform in that he has a daughter and that Hannah is sick and he is the only one that can help. Nick never knew about Hannah and is pretty shocked by the news. So, Nick turns out to be a pretty awesome guy. Almost too good to be true. It was great to see him not only taking responsibility, but really going above and beyond. Josie was a great mom and a great character. She faces problems head-on and never gives up. She had to drop out of school when she got pregnant, but made sure got her diploma and eventually was able to open her own business, a cute little coffee shop. Hannah was a cute character; you can’t help but feel bad for her situation. She has lost all her hair with chemotherapy treatments and is insecure about her looks. She is a tough cookie though.

The story has the whole lost-love plot that I’m a sucker for. I thought Nick and Josie had good chemistry; they also had a lot of baggage they have to work through. The story is all about forgiveness and looking forward. I thought it was really enjoyable.

Content: Clean. Mild Christian elements throughout.

Josie has contacted Nick Breman requesting he get a blood test to maybe help Hannah.
She had a one night stand with Nick the night her mom was buried, and he left shortly after for college. Josie had contacted his mother and told her she was pregnant and he was not told.
10 years later he's been informed and he wants to help out, his solution is for Josie to marry him. That will take care of the financial and medical problems for them.
Very detailed descriptions for every sense make this a truly enjoyable read.
Josie owns her own bakery shop and she has a helper who bakes. Her grandfather lives in her house and is able to watch out for Hannah.
Nick has to take care of making sure his disabled brother gets into a new group home as circumstances have changed in his care.
With health and money issues and building problems she is about to lose the business. She does have good family support for her decisions. She finds out in time who paid the mortgage for the next 3 months.
Nick is going through job problems and because of his new family situation he may have to go elsewhere for work and closer to where his brother lives. He's hiding a lot of old secrets that he knows he will
have to tell Josie about very soon.

This was a sweet and heartfelt story. Josie and Nick were high school sweethearts but their relationship ended after Nick left for college and she was a junior in high school. Flash forward 9 years, Josie own her own bakery and is trying to save her daughter Hannah's life, who has cancer.

She seeks out Nick hoping he is a match even though he has not once asked about Hannah nor assisted her financially. Well, not a surprise, but rather a romance trope, Nick didn't know about Hannah. Though Josie had sough Nick out when she first found out, his mother refused to provide her with his mailing address and assured her that she would let Nick know. Unfortunately, Nick's mom never told him and she died 8 years ago in a car accident that left his brother mentally disabled and he was the one driving. Needless to say, there's a lot of bantering between Nick and Josie and of course Josie trying to protect her daughter. Nick wants to be there for Hannah as her Dad and realizes he still loves Josie.

Each much move forward and leave the past behind them and this is part of that journey.

A simple and fast read with a sweet story.

This book tell the story of Josie who determine to locate her daughter's biological father, Nick Brennan after 9 years because he is the one and only person who is able to save their daughter, Hannah. She have recurring leukemia and in need of transplant urgently. She is not a match but there is a high possibility that Nick is. Nick, on the other hand, have no idea that he have a daughter and when Josie went to see him and revealed that indeed he is the father of her child, he is determine to stay with them.

Josie have many responsibility and is determine not to get Nick's involved in their life for the fear that he will walk away one day. Due to her independence, Nick is having difficulty to get her to accept him in her and their daughter's life and each time he offered to help, Josie felt that he wanted to forced himself into their life. OVerall, this is a story of two person's reconciliation, forgiveness and trust and i truly felt that love between two peoples who is meant to be can and will overcome all the hurdles that was set between them.

This story just hurts your heart. Nick and Josie both have bagage hanging around from their pasts. But right now they have a sick daughter. A daughter that Nick just found out that he had. So while Josie and Nick are struggling to find a way to work together to co-exist for Hannahs sake. they both love their daughter, but over coming past trust issues among others is hard to do. You just can not help but feel sorry for them. Nick and Josie are so realistic, you see them try their best. You see them succeed and you see them make mistakes. The path is not easy, but for the sake of their daughter they do their best. And slowly they both realize that they do love each other. This is a very sweet story, your heart hurts for the pain they each suffer but you keep rooting them on to find happiness.

Lakeside Family is the second book in Lisa Jordan's Lakeside series. I wasn't sure it was possible to like this book as much as I did her first novel, but I stand corrected. I loved the feisty Josie Peretti--a single mom running her own business and tending to a sick daughter. Sometimes running on fumes.

In a story of past hurts coming to surface and choosing to trust others and God, Jordan immerses you into Shelby Lake through captivating imagery and real-to-life sensory details. You'll enjoy spending time at Cuppa Josie's while having a cup of coffee, laughing at the quirky yet believable characters and becoming part of the community as they lean on one another in hard times.

When I turned the last page, I was actually shocked to be sitting on my couch in the living room. A deep and moving story with a happily ever after, you won't be disappointed.

Josie never told Nickolas she had a baby so when he hears from her that she needs her help with their child it comes as a shock. This is how their relationship begins again, not that they really had one to begin with! There is quite a bit of drama in this story with the existence of a sick child.

I gave this book 4/5 stars. I have read many Love Inspired books and have enjoyed most of them. This particular book did not have a great story line for me. The main character of Josie was not that likable. To me she did not come across as someone who I should cheer for or wanted to cheer for. That is just my opinion though and may not be someone else’s who reads this same story.

I would like to thank the publisher for the copy of this book I enjoyed reading. I gave an honest review based on my opinion of what I read.

This is a sweet, squeaky-clean somewhat religious romance. While certainly no classic, it was a perfect book to read while watching the water go by from my chair on the deck of a cruise ship. Nick and Josie are both highly likable characters and it was easy to root for them. Books like this show you how HOT a loving kiss can be. Grade B.

I'd like to thank the publisher for making a review copy available via NetGalley. I was not obligated to write a positive review.

The strong characters were very believable. Hard not to root for them to find their way when they are so likable. Didn't dwell on reasons they did what they had done in the past, author gave those reason up front and dealt with them right off the firs thing, only bringing up the reasons when character had to explain them to someone else, but otherwise left them there in the background. A very good read.
