Yearning to find a meaningful life in the outside world, nurse Miriam Kauffman strayed far from her Amish community. She also needed distance from Nick Bradley, the cop who had caused her so much pain. Back in Hope Springs to care for her ailing mother, Miriam needs Nick, now sheriff, to find the mother of Hannah, the baby abandoned on her porch. Nick is as wary of Miriam's intentions as she is of facing their past. Can two wounded hearts overcome their history to do what's best for little Hannah?
I was born and raised in Northcentral Kansas. I'm a farmer's daughter, but I now make my home in the city of Wichita. I'm an RN. Neonatal nursing has been the main focus of my career. What can I say? I love babies. I was invited to the highschool graduation of a baby I took care of. Talk about making me feel old!
In June of 2011 I became a widow after my husband of 36 years and 11 months died from multiple brain tumors. It was a very sad time, but thanks to the three f's, my faith, my family and my friends, life is moving forward. I have four brothers, one daughter and two grandchildren who all work at making me feel loved.
I'm the author of more than 30 books and I'm currently writing a series called The Brides of Amish Country for Love Inspired.
It was as if her body was waking up after a long sleep. She had been moving through life, but the texture had been missing. When Nick was near, she noticed everything, from the brilliant color of the sky to the deep timbre of his voice. She was becoming aware that her life was lonely.
This book was pretty grim, but I'm starting to think that this is Davids' MO.
Miriam is an Amish woman who didn't take baptism and instead left the Amish community to become a critical care nurse. She also left because her twin brother died in a car crash. She blames Nicolas - the local sheriff - who was chasing her brother when he crashed and died.
Miriam takes leave from her job to care for her Amish mother who has diabetes and has survived two heart attacks. One day her dog wakes her up early and she finds a baby in a basket on her doorstep. Thus necessitating renewed contact with Nicolas, whom she's been avoiding.
I don't have much to say here. I didn't find Miriam nor Nicolas to be that interesting or have any kind of robust personalities.
The book is full of stuff like suicides, abortions, pregnant 15-year-olds, human trafficking, dementia, domestic violence... and huge, huge helpings of guilt.

At first I wasn't sure I was going to like this first book because I really wanted to read something a bit more Amish romance based. But I actually ended up really enjoying it. This is my first book I've ever read that really involved a baby and it kind of scared me at first because I'm going through some trauma right now in my life that involves being able to have a baby. But this book turned out absolutely wonderful and it was beautifully written. It definitely made me smile and cry through the whole thing. It was a joy to read.
I love all of Patricia Davids' books! She writes with so much feeling and compassion, but without melodrama. Her characters feel so real! I'm a bit envious - wishing I could write like that. I will read everything she publishes, and so far I have always given her five stars. I've never met a "Patricia Davids' Novel" that I didn't like.
This one will not disappoint, either. There is an abandoned baby girl, a grieving woman, an aging mother, a young sheriff with a heavy conscience, and so much more. The plot moves along at a nice pace - and the outcome will make you feel good all over.
An enjoyable read with a bit of suspense surrounding the mystery of Hannah's arrival. I had no idea what the outcome would be but was not disappointed.
I look forward to reading the other books in this series.
Loved this book and am continuing to love this series. 7 books in 7 days. It’s nice to read them in order but not really necessary. The first one I read in the series was the eighth book in the series. I’m so glad I was able to find the others. She’s a really good author.
Well... I have to begin by saying that typically I give Amish books a WIDE berth. Mostly because I lived in Amish country for ten years, and they treated me like I had a plague if I so much as looked their way. That's not even getting into the 'they can hold their clothes together with metal, storebought safety pins, but wooden buttons are taboo', or the wagons hitched at McDonalds, or how about the 'we don't use electricity' but we do bury the cables under the ground and run power tools in the barn when nobody's looking. I have little to say that's good about the Amish, and don't want to read about them.
Why'd I read this one? Because it was 'Love Inspired' and free, I guess. And the plot was a baby dropped off on the porch of an ex-Amish woman's house, and how it forces her to work with the local sheriff, who was once her beau (and of course they fall in luvvv again).
Actually, the story wasn't bad. Nothing amazing or inspiring or even amusing. Nothing all that great at all, really. There wasn't much for faith. Oh, except to say that Amish have hoedowns for their kids to listen to modern music and do drugs at, while they turn a blind eye, so they can get their wild-oat-sowing out of the way and not leave the faith, which just makes me admire the Amish SO much more. Oh, and they have their own genetic diseases (like maple-smelling urine deficiency, that leaves them brain damaged or kills them via paralysis). Boy, makes ME wanna run out and join the Amish!
I don't know. It was a time-filler, mostly. Not bad, not good, not something I'm gonna gush about. Just... meh.
PS: Nick wouldn't have stayed single the extra eight years like that. Not a guy like Nick. Nice try, though.
Title: A HOME FOR HANNAH Author: Patricia Davids Publisher: Love Inspired August 2012 ISBN: 978-0-373-87757-7 Genre: Inspirational/romance
Miriam Kaufman has gone home to her Amish community to care for her ailing Mom. Her mom had two heart attacks within a short time. Miriam left the Amish to become a nurse and she has a side-job helping Amish youth run away. But this time it isn’t a youth waking her in the middle of the night. It’s a newborn baby.
Police officer Nick Bradley used to be Miriam’s boyfriend, but they let her Amish background get in the way of their relationship. And even now that she is no longer Amish they don’t have a hope because she thinks he killed her twin brother and refuses to forgive him for that sin.
When the two are forced together because of the abandoned infant, old hurts are forced to air and old wounds are reopened. Will they be able to rekindle their old relationship? Or has too much water gone under the bridge?
A HOME FOR HANNAH is the newest romance by Ms. Davids. Part of the Brides of Amish Country series, it easily stands alone, but readers will want to pick up the others in the series, most especially The Doctor’s Blessing as it is the story of another character in this book. The other books are: Katie’s Redemption, The Doctor’s Blessing, An Amish Christmas, The Farmer Next Door, and The Christmas Quilt. Fans of sweet romance, contemporary romance with a touch of Amish (in Amish country, English hero/heroine) will want to read A HOME FOR HANNAH. Discussion questions are included at the end of the book. $5.75. 215 pages.
A baby found on the door step and trying to solve the mystery of it all. Miriam comes back into contact with Nick after many years and we get to watch them forgive each other for things that weren't their fault and things that never really happened. There are many things in life that we let affect us negatively that affect relationships with others. I liked the addition of the little foil stars and what they meant. Was an enjoyable story.
I really liked this story, if you were to put the earlier story in this series between Faith and Adrian and then add in the story between Rebecca and Gideon, you'd have the perfect setting for this book, because its like Patricia Davids blended the two stories to make a new one, but added just enough to make it unique. If I hadn't been reading this series in order, back-to-back, I probably would not have noticed the similarities between the three stories.
I really like this book. I do enjoy stories about the Amish because they live basic lifestyles. Baby Hannah seemed like she could have belonged to a couple different people to me. Nice how Miriam took her in.
Sweet story of baby left from a disappearing Amish buggy...note says mother will come back in awhile. People go through a lot with happy ending. I like all her books. Light reading. Inspirational (faith) romances.
I haven't read a book by Patricia Davids that I haven't liked. This one was so sweet with the start of a baby left on the porch. The characters were so entwined with love and faith throughout the whole book.
A very good read. I am enjoying this entire series. Willie looking forward to textbook in this series. I have learned a lot about t the Amish people throughthesebooks
Miriam left the Amish community and became a critical care nurse after her twin brother Mark died in a car crash. Nick had worked on Miriam & Mark's family farm summers when this all happened. A baby named Hannah is delivered to Miriam's mother's door step for care. What to do?
Cute story about redemption, love and forgiveness. I enjoyed following Nick to his happily ever after. He's popped up in previous Brides of Amish country books so it was nice to see him find his true love.
This was a great book about a baby being left on a door step of two amish women. A mother and daughter. They fall in love with the baby but must face health issues and past romance. Very easy read
I liked this novel about a woman who has returned to her Amish mother's house although she has chosen to live in the English world. A newborn baby is left on Miriam's steps, and she and her former love interest who is now the sheriff must work together to find the baby's mother. Patricia Davids is one of my favorite writers, and she doesn't disappoint with this book.
This was a nice cozy mystery about Miriam who has left the Amish community and became a nurse. When her mother falls ill, Miriam goes back to take care of her. One night a baby is left on the porch. This baby girl called Hannah, brings life back to her mother, brings an old flame back in her life, and leaves them with a mystery to solve. Where is the Hannah's real mother?
I really did enjoy this book! I will say there were some touchy subjects in the book but they did a really good job of putting them in the story. This was a really sweet story and ended so good! 💛 It was also a very easy read and quick book to read!🙂
Another interesting story from the talented Patricia Davids. Less Amish in this one, but still a good “Plain” read. I especially liked the twist at the end, compliments of Bishop Zook.
I enjoyed this story on the surface but was a little disappointed by the lack of Nick’s character development because much of the book concentrates on his job as sheriff of Hope Springs and not on him personally. We know he has always loved Miriam and that he’s enamored with baby Hannah but I didn’t really feel like I knew him well. I loved Miriam and Ada’s loving care of infant Hannah, the appearance of characters from previous books and the message of forgiveness and healing for Nick and Miriam’s past mistakes but hoped for more tenderness between them.
This is a well-written story of second chances, grief, forgiveness, love of all kinds, and healing from brokenness through a baby left on an Amish doorstep. I enjoyed it.
