I'm giving this 3.5 stars. I really enjoyed the story but it had a pretty slow start. I loved that the romance was slow and sweet! This book also has my favorite theme of found family!

A heartwarming, inspirational read actually rated 4.5. Taken from my review at TheSeasonForRomance.com:

Maddie Wallace accepted a job as a nanny as suggested by her newly discovered twin sister Violet so as to keep her in Grasslands. The trouble is she has no experience as a nanny nor has she spent any time around children. A month ago, she had not even known she had a twin sister. At twenty-five, she has lost her job of three months with the magazine Texas Times and broken up with her fiancé. However, now it seems that these happenings were blessings from God. Breaking up with her fiancé resulted in her finding that both she and her brother Grayson have twin siblings. It seems that years ago their parents had each taken one from each of two sets of twins and gone their separate ways. Maddie and her brother Grayson had grown up in the city with their natural father and their stepmother, while Violet and Jack, Grayson’s twin, were raised at the Colby Ranch with their real mother, Belle Colby and her husband. The two sets of twins had never known that the other existed. Maddie and Grayson had believed that their stepmother was their real mother. She wished she could talk to her biological mother, but six weeks ago, Belle had been thrown from a horse and was now in a coma. With her father on a missionary trip and her brothers unavailable, Maddie was free to accept Violet’s invitation to visit her at the Colby Ranch, since she no longer had a job. Just as she was considering going home to Ft. Worth, she found the nanny job. Now she prayed to God for guidance and wisdom in dealing with her young charge.

Ty Garland, foreman at the Colby Ranch, just discovered a week ago that he has an eight-year-old daughter, Darcy, and that she was going to be living with him. He had never known that his ex-wife Brittany had a child or that she was his. Darcy lost her mom a week ago when a drunk driver ran into her car. With her grandparents out of touch, she had ended up on the doorstep of a father she had never known. Ty had been against the idea of hiring Maddie as his daughter’s nanny, believing that being from the city she would be just like his spoiled ex-wife. But he decided to give her a chance. He would try this for now and trust in God for the future.

At first, Maddie felt like a fish out of water at the ranch. To make matters even more surreal, her ex-fiancé, who had been pushing for a wedding date two months ago, is now deeply in love and engaged to her twin, Violet. But this is fine since he is more of a friend than anything else, and she never pictured them as man and wife. She is also able to empathize with Darcy as she had lost the woman she believed to be her mother when she was only five. Attracted to Ty, Maddie sees the longing in his eyes for a close relationship with his daughter, but she knows he sees her as a city girl. However, what he doesn’t know is just how much she loves the ranch. In fact, she is beginning to feel like she has come home. With God’s help, will he be able to get beyond his relationship with his ex-wife and give Maddie a chance?

The second book in Harlequin’s Texas Twins series written by gifted author Barbara McMahon, Mirror Image Bride, is a heartwarming contemporary romance. The beautiful descriptions of nature, God’s handiwork, are so realistically done that readers almost feel as if they are there. Unlike the sex scenes and foul language cluttering some of today’s books, Mirror Image Bride contains none of these. Instead, readers are drawn to the warmth and loving relationships between the characters as readers get to know them and how they relate to the other characters in the story. Filled with humor, everyday characters, ranch life, family dynamics, romance and true love, this story is sure to lift your spirits. I truly enjoyed this story and look forward to reading the next novel in this Harlequin miniseries as well as Ms. McMahon’s future works. A feel good book, Mirror Image Bride is one book you will not want to miss!

This is the first book I picked up... and then promptly set it BACK DOWN and went to find book #1. Because *THIS IS NOT A STAND-ALONE BOOK*. From page one, Barbara chucks WAGONLOADS of stuff from book #1 at the new reader, and if you haven't read the first book, you're going to have a struggle to catch up. And you'll KNOW that you missed a lot.

The first book? I gave five stars and raved about. Marta Perry set up an amazing world for the following five writers to work within. She created over half a dozen supporting threads that could go any direction: Sadie/Jeb, Tracie/long-lost sister, Sam/redemption, teen youth, Harriet/kids, Ty/Darcy and more. That's IN ADDITION TO the main characters: Maddie, Violet/Landon, and Jack.

Barbara dropped almost ALL of those threads. There was no mention of Sam, Harriet, Tracie or the teen youth in this book, which is HUGELY disappointing. Frankly, I don't think McMahon can handle more than four or five characters at a time, or she gets confused.

She *did* introduce two more threads - the Simmons, who apparently work 19 hours a day... but have absolutely no story, and Juan, who shows up to watch Darcy twice (conveniently) and is the ONLY ranch hand mentioned in a book about a ranch foreman (who apparently supervises absolutely nobody)... and his mention is peripheral, AT BEST. No story there, either. None. Zip. Nada.

Worse, she all but threw Landon out of the story. Like he was over her quota of people she could write about, so she sent him back to Dallas for the majority of the book. It was just. plain. bad. writing... and for people who liked the characters in the last book? Consider them passing names, in this one. And there are TOO MANY passing names, already. (Belle, Brian, Jack, Grayson, Carter, etc.)

In this story, you are supposed to deposit your brain at the door before reading. Because we're getting a look at Maddie, who is 25 years old, went to college (age 18-21) and then worked three years (age 21-24) at a magazine in Ft. Worth, but was sacked (age 25) when budget cuts came along (meaning she wasn't good enough to keep - fat is always cut, first). But on Pg 192 she applies to the local paper in Grasslands, and the editor tells her she has an 'impressive job history'. Since when - she only had time for ONE job, and that... just... Say whu...? And he, of course, hires her pretty much on the spot. Because Barbara.

In this book, Maddie is 'big city girl', only not. Pretty much, Barbara equates that to 'every shirt she wears in the novel is silk'. Because realistic... and girls who live in cities only wear silk. Eighteen blouses worth, or more. And rancher Jack has to drive when she goes back to Ft. Worth, because in six weeks time, she's forgotten how to navigate city traffic. I. Can't. Even.

Maddie lost her mom at the age of FIVE, and has been missing her desperately for twenty years. ((!?!?!)) I lost my grandmother at four, I barely remember her. In fact, I barely remember kindergarten at age five, so how Maddie - throughout the story - misses her mother's stories and loving hugs, etc., I have NO idea. Especially when she had a second mother and then devoted nanny/housekeeper to replace foggy memories.

Anyhow, before oh-so-fortuitously getting hired at the paper, Maddie takes a nanny job for Ty/Darcy... which is an unbelievable story, too. Darcy's eight, and grew up in Houston with her mother, and nearby grandparents. Which makes NO sense, because Ty has no family, but he and Darcy's mom were married in Austin... WHY???

We're not even sure if Darcy was born in Austin or Houston or WHAT the heck, because it's never explained. Anyhow, Ty never knew she existed until her mom died in a crash, and her grandparents are conveniently out of the country in Africa at the time. ?!??! Barbara tells us that the state never would have looked into the birth father if the grandparents would have been home. That's hard to buy, too. Parents trump grandparents... Legal guardianship would've been looked into by the social workers at the hospital, I'm pretty sure.

History issues: Ty married Brittney when he was with the rodeo, knowing she was a rich city girl and that he would be retiring to work as a ranch hand, and Brittney married the cowboy "hating the idea of ranching", knowing he wasn't gonna do cities, ever... and we're supposed to believe Brittney NEVER would've thought about this and just done it? Um, no. Especially if she's used to money - she'd have WAY too many fears about the life to come.

Then ((shocker)) she's pregnant the ENTIRE DIVORCE and doesn't tell him, and divorce in Texas is at least 60 days, minimum - that's *IF* she got knocked up the day she filed for divorce, which is highly unlikely. More likely is that she realized she was preggers, that Ty was goin' country (like he already wasn't), and then broke things off at the crossroads her pregnancy created. Which meant she would've been two months along when she realized, plus the two months minimum to divorce... she would've been showing at the finalization, hello. But he didn't know.

So anyhow, Maddie's watching Darcy, who has no clothes, toys, etc... so they go shopping, but they have to try things on to find out her size, because Maddie's too stupid to check the tags in the back of the clothing Darcy is currently wearing. Like I said, check your brain at the door...

Barbara also has Ty, Maddie and Darcy going on a wild goose chase to find Maddie's father just as a court battle is being set up for them w/ the grandparents... and for no good reason whatsoever. They already talked to the folks at the town they're headed to (that he LEFT) by phone, so it doesn't make sense. The trip doesn't garner a father, it doesn't bring Ty and Maddie closer, just... *ROAD TRIP!* And it's disjointed and weird. Not only that, but because *Barbara*, Darcy sleeps - the E.N.T.I.R.E. trip - and it's a 30-hour trip, hello. Then when they get home? They put her to bed. She's EIGHT, for the love of Mike!!!!

Let's talk about Brian (the father). I thought he was out of touch in the jungles of Africa in the last book, but apparently that was swapped to Darcy's grandparents, oddly. No, Brian is doing doctoring 'mission' work with no mission backing him in small towns in America, out of pocket. Except IN WHAT WORLD does this happen? People would be leery of quacks with unconfirmed credentials (is he not affiliated with anyone because he's had that license he just flashed you revoked?!). It makes NO sense, at all.

Neither does the fact that he hasn't checked in with ANY of his kids in *six weeks*... if it were Africa with no internet, I could see it, but in Texas? Seriously!? Especially if he lost his cellphone - wouldn't he be e-mailing the kids, saying "Yo, I lost my cellphone, don't call me, use e-mail?" He's SOOOOO busy, he doesn't sit down at the end of the day and think apparently. Nada. Nothing. It's beyond stupid.

The faith in this book equates to two trips to church services, a Vacation Bible School Maddie dumps Darcy at, and a church/town social picnic... and a handful of tiny prayers here and there. They actually talk more to the comatose mother in this book than to the Lord God.

As for the romance... this is the best it gets:
Maddie: Thanks, I enjoyed myself.
Ty: I did, too. I hope you'll go out with me again. ((kiss))
Maddie: So this is a thank you for watching Darcy?
Ty: What are you talking about?
Maddie: You asked me out as a reward for watching your daughter?
Ty: I pay you a salary to watch her. This was for me and you.
Maddie: ((smiles)) I'm glad. See you in the morning. ((walks away))

No tender looks, no breath hitching, no warmth tingling the blood, no gentle caress... NOTHING. I get that it's christian, but good grief, it's a ROMANCE. And nothing. At. ALL.

So was this book good? NO. I was really hoping that if I read #1 and got the story all squared in my head, I'd be able to read this one. I... wish I hadn't read this one...

PS: The title is "Mirror Image Bride". There is no bride in this book.

Review: Mirror Image Bride by Barbara McMahon
4 STARS Mirror Image Bride is book 2 in Texas Twins miniseries. Her Surprise Sister by Marta Perry was book 1. I wanted to find out what happens next so bought this second ebook from amazon. I hope I get to read the whole series. Maddie Wallace is staying on the Colby Ranch after finding out she has a twin, her older brother has a twin and her mother is not the mother she knew but in the hospital in a comma. Her father is not answering his phone or emails. Her older brother that she grew up with is working deep undercover work. Her younger brother is in the milatary deployed overseas. Her world that she knew has changed so much. She was even engaged for a short while to her older brothers best friend, who is now engaged to her twin sister. Which is great because it was more friend relationship than love and she broke it off right away. Ty Garland is forman at the Colby Ranch and his life has changed in a major way. All of a sudden he is the father of a 8 year old daughter named Darcy that he did not know he had till his ex-wife was killed in a accident. He needed to find a nanny fast so he can work on the ranch now that his boss is in a comma and the son is feeling guilty over his mother's comma. So Maddie became the nanny so she could get to know her new sister and older brother and visit her mom. At least till schools starts again. Thier are still so many questions about how they were all spilt up and why they got name change at least thier mom,her twin and the older brother that she never knew about. Maddie is falling in love with the ranch life, Darcy and even her father. This was a enjoyable book in the series. Thier is not any sex scenes or swear words in the book. I look forward to reading the other books in the texas twins miniseries. I also want to read more books from Barbara McMahon in the future. Publisher: Love Inspired (July 24, 2012) 224pages

Mirror Image Bride by Barbara McMahon
Texas Twins Series Book 2
Maddie Wallace has been living at the Colby Ranch since meeting her twin sister, Violet Colby, a few short weeks earlier. She may be a city girl but she’s quickly learning to love the peace, quiet and even the smells of the country here in Grasslands, Texas. Her new challenge is to be the best nanny for young Darcy that she can be. Or is the challenge to get to know the handsome father, Ty Garland?

Ty has been working for the Colby’s for eight years now. He once had dreams of owning his own spread but they died along with his marriage to Brittany. When out of nowhere he finds that his ex-wife is dead and she left a daughter behind, his daughter, life changes in the blink of an eye. When Violet offers her sister to watch Darcy all he can see is Brittany all over. Someone wearing dress pants and open toed shoes on a ranch. Not someone who would be staying around long. First impressions can be very misleading though as Ty finds out.

We get to revisit with Violet and Landon from Her Surprise Sister and get small glimpses of Jack Colby who we learn more about in book 3: Carbon Copy Cowboy. Belle Colby is still in a coma and Brian Wallace is still MIA on a mission trip. An exciting series so far with four more books to follow. I always enjoy these Love Inspired multi-author series and it’s very impressive how six different authors can come together and each of their individual books connect into one great story.

Mirror Image Bride by Barbara McMahon

Wow!! Didn't realize it was book #2 ... so I guess that's a good thing, you can pick it up & join right in and enjoy this book without reading #1

Downside - at beginning you could predict where it was heading (boy meet girl kinda thing)

Upside - reading about "TRUSTING GOD" in ALL things!! Reading about another 'person' dealing with patience & struggles going with waiting and trusting.

Some of my favorite parts:
I think all children should have a wonderful childhood that will prepare them for their future as and adult that teaches love and compassion, and faith.

(without spoilers) "What if ...."
"Keep the faith. The Lord will work everything out. He can do anything."
"I know, but what if working out means not me."

--> Don't we all play that out in our heads "what if ... means not me" - great read! quick read and worth the time to read! Enjoy it! :)

Purchased and started reading right away. I have been waiting for this sequel to Her Surprise Sister by Marta Perry. This is the second book in the Texas Twins continuity series, and I loved the first book.
The next four books should be published over the next four months.
Finished this wonderful story of twin Maddie Wallace and handsome cowboy Ty, who find romance at the Colby Ranch despite nagging questions about the family history, and too many missing family members. Maddie agrees to be a nanny for Ty's newly found daughter. Will this complicate their growing feelings for one another? A delightful blend of romance and mystry. Finished this book, and read the sequel, Carbon-Copy Cowboy by Arlene James. Can't wait to read the entire series are it is published throughout the rest of 2012.

Overall, a cute story, and I really liked that both Maddie and Ty were Christians who not only talked the talk, but walked the walk, as they say. I loved that they each were able to encourage the other to trust the Lord during their respective trials.
I liked the way the author used Darcy as the reason for Maddie and Ty to start spending so much time together, though I think she was portrayed as slightly younger than the 8 years old she was said to be. Definitely not a deal breaker though.
The mystery of what happened to split up the Wallace and Colby families continues, and I am intrigued to see what will happen next.

*I received this book in a Goodreads First Reads contest.

I found this book very enjoyable and heartwarming. I really liked Maddie as a character and you could really feel a spark with her and her leading man Ty. I loved how before she really could plan for the future she just knew her place was on the ranch and that there was a definite connection with Ty and his daughter. It was a sweet light read and I look forward to the rest of the series.

Can more things happen to this family this year? Ty's ex-wife is killed in an accident and finds out he has a daughter, Darcy. Maddie helps take care of Darcy during the day while she is waiting for her own mother to wake up from the coma. The newly found twins are also still waiting to her from their doctor father to answer the question why they were separated when they were young.

Mirror Image Bride by Barbara McMahon is the second book in Harlequin's Love Inspired series Texas Twins. If the book were a single title, I would have given it five stars. However, there were a few things that didn't quite ring true based on the characters as presented in the first book in the series which was written by Marta Perry. Other than that, a very enjoyable read.

Kind of heartwarming and heartwrenching. I like the way Maddie decided to stay on the ranch. She decided before she even knew she was in love. So looking for a job was easy and standing up for her man a must.

No sex scenes. Both brothers and her father are still out of touch. Her mother is still unconscious after an accident. This is the 2nd book in the series with no answers as to what happened to tear the family apart. Enough already!

Two twin sisters and two twin brothers were separated at a very young age and now in their young adult life have finally found each other. The question is why were they separated and never told about the others. Everyone who could answer their questions is unavailable, the dad of one is doctoring migrant workers and can not be reached. The mom of the other is in a coma. And of course there is romance in the air.

New Life in Texas

Maggie Wallace had a fairly simple life until she lost her job and decided to do some searching for a part of her family she never knew she had. Not only did she find what she was looking for, this family consisted of a Mother, who is in a coma, a twin sister and a twin brother to one of her brothers. She finds a tall cowboy she falls in love with, who has a daughter and falls deeply in love. Read this exciting story, I have a feeling there will be more.
