This is one ghost who is determined to get his way...no matter what the price.

Maggie Kim’s parents have always dreamed of operating their own hotel, so when the historic Wharton Mansion goes up for sale, they see it as the perfect opportunity to open their own ski lodge. This weekend, Maggie and her family are going to check the place out and perhaps even buy it on the spot. But Maggie doesn’t want to move to a run-down old mansion all the way up on a desolate mountain—and the ghost that lives there doesn’t want her there either . . . a ghost that will stop at nothing to get his way.
This haunting horror story is rated a Level 4 on the Creep-o-Meter.

Re-read 2020: This one was next! A cold but spooky read about a family who wants to make a ski-resort and a ghost that clearly says no. I was definitely pissed at the parents and how they just expected the kids to be totally OK with being dragged away from school and friends. I hate when parents do this kind of thing. The ghost was spooky and creepy though I hated how everyone dismissed our MC.
The ending was pretty good. All in all, glad I had a chance to do another re-read of this one.

----------------------------

A very scary and very exciting volume in this series. This time we are in the mountains, far away from civilization and we have one very angry ghost.

I really liked the characters, though I think it was a bit silly that no one, not even her friend believed her until they saw it happening. Strange things happen and they just play it off as nothing. I didn't like how the parents reacted to that older lady who came by. I mean rude? Oh it is in his will, well F him and his will, this will become a ski resort if you want it or not. I expect such behaviour from the kids, not from adults.

The creepy factor was quite high, we have mysterious voices, icy messages, hidden passages, objects falling and a whole lot more. I had quite a few goosebumps along the way.

I had expected a slightly better ending, but I kind of like the idea of a new family coming in. Fresh blood. :)

All in all, I would recommend this book.

These have all been pretty solid 4 star reads! I'm happy with the series overall.

I like that this one has a more definite creepy ending. Some of the books are more open for interpretation about whether or not the creepy thing was real. Not so much with this one!

Definitely a good read for the mid-grade reader in your life who likes things a little spooky!

I have quite a few kids who ask for scary books, so I was hoping this series would pass my quality test. Sorry to say, it did not. Most of the book was ok, but the ending was such a fail I just can't bring myself to recommend it. It's possible this one was a dud and others are better, but I'm not giving another hour to this series. I will keep recommending M. D. Hahn for elementary scares.

Maggie Kim's parents have decided to drop everything to purchase a rundown mansion next to an old ski resort. They want to renovate and reopen it. Maggie is far from pleased. When they arrive, she swears she sees an old man in one of the windows. Of course, no one believes her. On the first night, several ghostly incidents happen that she can't prove and her parents decide to go forward with the purchase. While in town, they forbid their older son from going skiing, but he goes anyway. The ghost follows the brother to the slopes and causes him to have an accident. The parents do a 180 over the latest incident and high-tail it out of there, just as another potential buyer is arriving.

The biggest flaw is the ending. The parents changing their minds in the last 3 pages of the book is an unforgivable plot fail. It's like the author was bored with the story and didn't care about giving it a decent ending. I value good writing too much to hand this to a student.
