Sara’s friend Lily has a new crush…but he might be more of a fantasy than she realizes.
Sara now understands who she really is—why she has paranormal powers, why she’s living in Stellamar, and why it’s important to have Lady Azura in her life. What she doesn’t understand is how her best friend, Lily Randazzo, can have a crush on a boy who’s not alive. Kyle and his family died in a car accident while visiting Stellamar over the holidays, but Kyle isn’t aware of his sudden death and can still walk around like he’s alive. Only Sara knows he’s really a spirit, and if she doesn’t say something to Lily, there could be traumatizing consequences. Lady Azura firmly warns Sara against interfering, saying that this sort of spirit phenomena is a recipe for disaster. But Sara knows she has no choice...she has to protect her best friend and help Kyle learn the truth. Can she do so without hurting Lily in the process?
Phoebe Rivers had a brush with the paranormal when she was thirteen years old, and ever since then, she has been fascinated by people who see spirits and can communicate with them. In addition to her intrigue with all things paranormal, Phoebe also loves cats, French cuisine, and wiling her afternoons away in coffee shops writing stories. Phoebe has written dozens of middle-grade fiction books and is thrilled to now be exploring Sara’s paranormal world.
I really love this series. Sara has grown so much and I love how she is more comfortable with her powers and much more willing to help the Spirits she encounters. I love how she is getting bolder with the crying Spirit and I hope that we continue to learn more about why she is crying. She becomes very active in this story and Sara actually tries to talk to her and find out why she is acting out more than usual.
The main plot though is that Sara encounters a young boy Spirit that other kids can see. This is a bit confusing because usually only Sara can see the Spirits in town. Sara learns from Lady Azura that this boy most likely does not know he is dead, that is why he is still visible to others.
I'm not sure that I agree with this idea that someone could not know they were dead. However, it is an idea that has been around for awhile now and it makes sense that a series like Saranormal should have a story about it. The conflict comes from the fact that Spirits might be unpredictable when they find out they are dead and therefore dangerous. Sara is concerned about her friend Lily, because Lily really likes this boy and plans to attend the school dance with him.
Sara also continues to learn more about her great-grandmother, Lady Azura, and her dad. I love how these relationships are evolving - it gives the series a very mature feel. The author has really though things out and the written style is wonderful.
I really like these books. They are great for girls in the 10-12 years range. They give you an insight into girl relationships- things like clothes, wondering if people like you, etc. This story is about a ghost that the other kids can see. Since he is a cute boy, her best friend thinks she should ask him out to the dance. Sarah tries to change her mind. Sarah is starting to be able to read minds now and can sometimes hear what her friends say and this starts to bother her. Good story and it shows how much she wants to help her friend as well as the ghosts she encounters.
This was probably my least favorite of these. They keep getting weirder and weirder, which is fine, but I need the plot to make a little bit of sense. The thing I hated the most here was this giant build up for a plot point toward the end of the book and then everything was resolved off page. All we see is a glimpse of the aftermath and it made this book feel like it was missing it's entire third act.
Overall, I still like the series and I like reading about Sara and her life, but this one was a bit meh.
Entertaining but didn’t catch my attention like the last one. I liked the wailing spirit part. However, I did not feel connected/liked very much the whole Kyle part.
This one is a turning point for both Sara's dad and Sara both. The weeping ghost in the next room is more active than usual. It seems it may be responsible for causing a minor fire in the house, which causes her father distress.
On top of that, Lily is angry at Sara because of a misunderstanding with a boy. A boy that isn't all that he appears to be.
Plus, a new power manifests itself, making her life even more complicated.
I liked this book a lot. Not quite as much as the previous one, but it still holds up.
In this book Sara and her friends meet an unusual guy. He is nice and good looking, and dead. But everyone can still see him and Sara's BFF, Lily has a major crush on him. Sara knows that once he relizes he is dead there could be some bad mojo and tries to keep Lily away from him. Will she have to lose her friend to save her?
This is such a fun series. Sara is growing into a pretty responsible kid. I like her family and friends. Tweens could have a worse role model. Looking forward to more adventures with Sara.
