A great way to introduce kids to some common (European) animals. Lovely illustrations, too!

This is one DS picked out on his own (pretty indiscriminately) and turns out to be a nice fit. The art is the most interesting part since it's not usually realism that you see in kids books. These are pen and ink or very fine woodcuts with lots of detail on all kinds of woodland scenes. The rabbit especially was well done. My almost 3 y/o liked identifying the animals, even though some he didn't know very well, like the fox. Good change of pace from the cartoony fun of most childrens' fare.

From a favorite author/illustrator, this simple nature story gives a glimpse into several habitats, complete with creatures beautifully and realistically illustrated. There is a lovely informational section at the back that tells more about each animal. It is set in England, so some of the animals featured are not necessarily found in the wild in the US; nevertheless, this would be a great book for young naturalists. 🌾

We chose "D" small and wet, but that was incorrect. The illustration is not helpful. Are little otters wet? I always thought so.

Two Tiny Mice was about what two tiny field mice see when they look out in the world. Things like a sparrow in its nest, a fox up on the hill, a quacking duck, and even a squirrel eating a nut. I thought this was a fun book to show the world from a different perspective than what we see as humans. It was interesting seeing in from an animal’s perspective and a very tiny one at that. I think kids would really enjoy this book because of all the different animals featured in it and would recommend having this book in the classroom for students who have an interest in animals.

Stunning illustrations of field/woodland animals, and a simple text. The rich illustrations make this book a great starting point for conversations (What color is the fox? Where is that animal doing?) therefore making me highly recommend this book to parents of young children.

This was one of my daughter's favorites. The sticker indicates that we bought our used copy at the local annual book fair for $2.00! It was well worth the price, based on the fact that we read it over and over. The two tiny mice of the title investigate the animals that surround them in the world (their field) - rabbit, hare, mole, sparrow, fox, frog, duck, weasel, otter, squirrel, and hedgehog. They don't see the badgers that come out at night, though, because they are sound asleep in their nest, worn out from their adventure and their busy day. Lifelike illustrations and a sweet, simple story.
